Chapter 1

So lemme catch you up. My name is River and I am what they call the eclipse witch. I bursted into this world kicking and screaming at the exact moment the moon was in front of the sun, granting celestial power. I am the first in eighty five years. Having this much power puts me at the top of the food chain and next in line to become High Priestess. My mother, Raven, is High Priestess now and my father, Demisus, was a Guardian to my mother. He was the commander, every Guardian followed and respected him. He died protecting my mother when I was young but not before passing all his strength down to me. Now, being me isn’t easy, having as much power as I do gives off a signal to the hunters. Yes, hunters, think of them as some crazy Jesus freaks that believe they’re doing the world a favor by ridding the world of us. They have devices that pick up on magic and mine sends a big message, which is why we’re flying down the freeway right now going 120 mph, on a f*****g motorcycle. “Can’t you go any faster!” I shouted over my Guardian's shoulder.  “Any f*****g faster and we have two choices, accident or them,” he said jotting his thumb in the direction of the black SUV gaining on us. “Why don’t you do something, Priestess?” he mocked. My eyes narrowed at him as I became annoyed at the situation. We are too close to the mansion and any closer we risk exposing ourselves. I am forbidden to use magic outside the mansion but an idea crossed my mind as I glanced down at one of my knives holstered to my thigh. Before I could change my mind I quickly stood on the bike seat and turning myself around and leaned my back against Dimitri for support.  “Riv, what the f**k are you doing!?’’ he yelled back at me, I ignored him trying to maintain my balance and take aim. I held both knives in my hands, took a deep breath, and threw them as hard as I could. A loud pop rang out assuring me that I hit the tires. The SUV squealed and swerved out of sight. A big smile on my face as I turned back around and wrapped my arms around Dimitri’s waist. I feel a chuckle rumble through him as he shouts, “nicely done, Riv.”  “thank you, thank you.” I said smiling.  “I wouldn’t get too cocky just yet. You still have to explain yourself to your mother.” My smile fell. “Well, I may be able to take out some hunters but you definitely know how to kill a mood.” I felt a chuckle vibrate through him at my reply. “You’re the eclipse and you're worried about explaining yourself to your mommy.” he teased, I rolled my eyes, “just get me home.” he scoffed. “Yes Priestess.” he chuckled.   30 minutes later we pulled into the gravel drive-way of the mansion. The house was obviously alive, for every light was on. Our mansion has a protection barrier around it so that no magical blood can see it, however, those hunters would have seen us disappear into its radius.  I groaned as I swung my leg over to dismount the bike, “f**k me,” I exclaimed. I glanced at Dim, to find his eyes cast down. “What is it?” my irritation soaked my question. He barely lifted his head so his green eyes peaked at me through his black hair.   “I’m the guardian, Riv. let me do my job.” I smiled up at him assuringly.  “I promise, next time I’ll drive and you take the fuckers out.” He punched my arm and we laughed as we walked the bike into the garage.  “I just wanna make sure we’re on the same page.” I rolled my eyes and turned to walk inside to face my mother, let's just hope it’s going to be that easy with her. As if reading my mind he called out to me. “I’m a lot more forgiving than your mother.” The smile was prominent in his voice when it reached me. I hadn’t made it two steps from the door before I had two guardians on either side of me. Devin and Jay, the guardians assigned to mom after my father passed away. I sighed audibly. “You know where you’re going?” asked Devin, I nodded. Oh yeah, I know exactly where I’m going, probably to hell after this conversation with mom because she is going to kill me.  I entered my mother’s quarters to Hyena, head of the Guardians, and my mother deep in conversation that ceased when her eyes met mine. There are 5 elementals that are the starting branches of the coven’s family tree. Nura for spirit, that would be my house also the leading house of the coven, Ignatus for fire, house Belus for water, Elos for earth and Aeolous for air. They are the ancient families that grew into the coven we have today. The Guardians are house Arun. My mother’s eyes ignited in anger as her face twisted into a familiar stern look that radiated the wrath of hell itself. f**k, I’m so dead.  “Leave us.” she said firmly, her anger seeped into her voice and made her sound frightening to everyone else, to me I just sat there awaiting her lecture that would more than likely include yelling. As everyone quietly left and the door shut behind them her hand came up to hip.
