Chapter 13: Farewell and Goodbyes

2782 Words
Lorenzo woke up to the sound of his alarm, feeling grumpy and tired. He couldn't shake off the events of last night from his mind. Isabel had run away from him, leaving him with so many questions and thoughts swirling in his head. He had hoped that they would talk things through and he could explain certain things to her. But now, with his departure day approaching fast, he was worried that this was the end of the road for them. He knew deep down that there was no possibility of a long-distance relationship. He would never put her in danger like that. But he couldn't bear the thought of not having her in his life at all. Maybe they could be friends, he thought. It would be pure torture to be away from her, but he had to do what was best for her. Lorenzo got out of bed and went to his balcony to clear his head. The sun was just starting to rise, casting a warm glow over the city. He took a deep breath and tried to push his worries aside. He couldn't dwell on the things he couldn't control. All he could do was make the most of the time he had left with Isabel. He got dressed and headed out the door, determined to make the most of the day ahead. As he made his way to the front door to start his day, he noticed an envelope sitting on the ground, addressed to him in Isabel's handwriting. He picked it up, his heart racing as he realized it was from her. He tore it open and began reading, his eyes scanning the words hungrily. He couldn't believe the depth of emotion that poured out from her in the letter. It was clear that she had poured her heart and soul into every word, and it made his heart ache even more for her. My Dear Lorenzo, It's hard to put into words the immense gratitude I feel towards you. You have been there for me through thick and thin, a true friend who has never wavered in your support. When I thought I was all alone in the world, you stood by my side and gave me the strength to keep going. And then there was love... something that I had given up on long ago. But with you, I found a love so deep and pure that it has changed me in ways I never thought possible. You are my soulmate, the missing piece that I never even knew I was looking for. When I was lost and adrift, you anchored me and showed me the way back to shore. The depth of my love for you is indescribable. You have become a part of me, an essential piece of my being that I cannot live without. And the thing that makes you so special, Lorenzo, is that you have always been exactly who you are. You never try to be someone you're not, and that authenticity is what drew me to you in the first place. You are kind, compassionate, and understanding, always putting others before yourself. Your heart is pure, and your soul is beautiful. I may not be the best at expressing my emotions through poetry, but this letter is the closest thing I have to a love poem for you. And even though we can't communicate as easily as most people in this day and age, with you not owning a cellphone, I promise to write to you as much as possible. Finally, I want you to know that my love for you is not one-sided. I want you to be happy too, to have all your dreams come true. You deserve everything life has to offer, and more. I wish I could see you with my own eyes right now, to tell you how much you mean to me, to show you the beautiful human being that you are. With all my love, Per sempre tua, Isabel! He was struck by her suggestion that they communicate via love letters, and he couldn't help but smile at the thought of it. He had never been one for writing letters. He did write her the small poems but that was because he knew it made her smile, but the idea of pouring his feelings out onto paper for Isabel to read was strangely appealing. He wiped a single tear from his cheek, not even realizing it had fallen in the first place. As he read on, he was relieved to see that Isabel had decided to see a psychiatrist. He knew it was the right decision for her, and he was grateful that she had taken his advice. He was anxious to see her, to hold her close and tell her how proud he was of her for taking this step. With a newfound sense of hope and determination, Lorenzo rushed out of his apartment and headed straight for Isabel's. He couldn't wait to see her and tell her how much he loved her. As he walked, he couldn't help but think about how lucky he was to have her in his life, and how much he would miss her when he was gone. But for now, he was determined to make the most of their time together, and to cherish every moment they had left. As he walked, he thought about all the things he wanted to say to Isabel. He wanted to tell her how much he cared for her, how much he would miss her when he was gone. He continued walking towards the campus when he saw Isabel in the distance. She was walking quickly, as if she were running late for something for a class. He couldn't help but admire her beauty, the way she moved with such purpose and grace. Isabel suddenly felt a prickling sensation on the back of her neck, as if someone was watching her. She stopped in her tracks and glanced around, her eyes scanning the busy street until they locked onto his. It was Lorenzo. There was no mistaking the intensity of his gaze, the way it seemed to pierce through the hustle and bustle of the crowd. Isabel felt her heart skip a beat as their eyes met, knowing in that instant that he had read her letter. Isabel's eyes widened in surprise as she recognized Lorenzo's form in the distance. She stopped walking and looked directly at him. Lorenzo grinned, and Isabel felt a rush of emotions - anticipation, excitement, and a touch of nervousness - all at once. Without a second thought, Isabel started running towards him. As she got closer, Lorenzo opened his arms wide, ready to embrace her. They collided in a tight hug, and for a moment, it felt like they were the only two people in the world. "Sorry," they both said at the same time, laughing as they pulled away from each other. Isabel's heart was racing as she looked up at Lorenzo, taking in the sight of him. She felt so grateful to have him in her life, to know that he cared about her and was there for her, even from a distance. "Thank you for reading my letter," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. Lorenzo smiled and leaned in to kiss her forehead. "Of course," he said. "I'm so glad you wrote it." "Can we talk?" Lorenzo asked, his voice barely above a whisper. Isabel nodded. Lorenzo took a deep breath and began to apologize, "Isabel, I'm sorry. I know I should have talked to you before contacting the doctor. I just wanted to help, and I knew you were hesitant." Isabel interrupted him, "Lorenzo, I appreciate what you did, I really do, but I won't lie and say it did not take me by surprise. In the future, I would appreciate it even more if we could communicate better. Don't make decisions about me without talking to me first. I get the good intentions behind it, but it just makes me feel cornered, which was probably why I needed some time away, so I am sorry for running. I acknowledge it was not very mature of me." Lorenzo nodded in understanding. "I understand, Isabel. And I'm sorry for making you feel that way. I promise I won't do it again without talking to you first. I just care about you so much and I want to make sure you're okay." Isabel gave him a small smile and said, "I know you do. Let's not talk about this anymore. Are you ready for your surprise later today?" Lorenzo's eyes widened in surprise, "Surprise?" Isabel laughed, "Don't act like you don't know." Lorenzo grinned, knowing that Isabel and Marco were terrible at keeping secrets and knowing full well they were throwing him a party later, but he didn't want to hurt their feelings, "Of course, I'm ready. I know I need to get ready at your place." They said goodbyes, and Lorenzo left feeling relieved that they had talked things out. As he walked towards the library to study, he couldn't help but feel relieved. Later that night, they had just left Isabel's dorm towards the mysterious surprise, as they walk through the streets of Padua, Lorenzo could not help but feel gratitude for the last 7 months where he embraced this relationship, he was still scared someone was watching but since he was going home soon anyway he thought his father would at least leave him being. Lorenzo and Isabel were deep in conversation about their latest class assignments. The night air was cool and crisp. As they turned the corner, they saw the brightly lit sign of the bar they had frequented with friends. But something was different tonight. Lorenzo noticed the subtle changes first. The familiar faces of his friends were all gathered outside the bar, waiting for something. Then, all of a sudden, they jumped up and screamed in unison, "Surpriseeeeee!" Lorenzo's heart skipped a beat as he realized what was happening. He acted surprised and hugged each of his friends, thanking them for coming. Isabel and Marco high-fived each other, happy with their ''successful'' surprise. They all headed inside, and Lorenzo was overwhelmed by the sight of the decorations and the sheer number of people who had turned up. The night was full of games, dancing, alcohol, and good fun between friends. The music was loud, and the conversations were animated. Isabel was particularly lively, with a drink in hand and a big smile on her face. Lorenzo couldn't help but admire her as she laughed and danced with their friends. But as the night wore on, Isabel became a bit too happy. She was a lightweight when it came to alcohol, and Lorenzo could see that she was getting tipsy. He walked up to her and whispered in her ear, "Do you want to go for some fresh air? She smiled and nodded, and they made their way outside. The cool air hit them, and they both took a deep breath. Lorenzo put his arm around Isabel, and they walked down the street, away from the noise of the party. As they walked, Isabel leaned into him, and he could feel her warmth. He leaned in and kissed her softly, and she responded eagerly. They pulled away, both a little breathless. They stood in silence for a moment, looking up at the stars in the alley beside the bar. Lorenzo stood before Isabel, feeling a heavy weight on his chest as he struggled to find the right words. He had never been good with goodbyes, and this one felt particularly difficult. "I never thought I could fall this deep, Isabel," he began, his voice thick with emotion. "But now, standing here before you, I realize that there's nothing I regret. I wouldn't trade these past few months for anything, even though they've been both the best and the hardest days of my life." He paused for a moment, taking a deep breath before continuing. "I wish we had more time, but I also know that the intensity of our connection would only increase with time. And to be honest, I'm scared of that.'' Tears welled up in Isabel's eyes, and she listened intently, not wanting to interrupt Lorenzo's words. "But no matter what the future holds, Isabel, I want you to know that you'll always have someone cheering for you from afar," Lorenzo said, his voice breaking slightly. "I'm so grateful to have met you in a world of over 7 billion people, and I'll never forget the way you've touched my heart and changed my life." He took a step closer to her, reaching out to take her hand. "You'll always hold a special place in my heart, and I'll never forget you. Thank you for teaching me how to love, thank you for loving me in return, but thank you for just being my everything." Still with tears in her eyes, Isabel closed the gap between them and kissed him hard, pouring all of her love and longing into it. Her lips were soft and pliant against his, and the taste of her was like a drug, intoxicating him. He felt her fingers curl into his hair, pulling him closer, and he responded by pressing her against the wall of the alley. Their bodies were flushed against each other, and the heat between them was almost unbearable. He could feel her heart racing against his chest, and the soft moans she made only drove him further into a frenzy. It was as if they were two magnets, always moving towards each other, unable to resist the pull of their desire. At that moment, they both felt an ethereal feeling of belonging, as if they had finally found the true reason for existing in each other's arms. The outside world seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them in a timeless embrace. As their lips met in a passionate, intense kiss, Isabel felt a rush of emotion that seemed to flow through her entire body. Her heart was racing, and she couldn't help but let out a soft moan as Lorenzo pressed her up against the wall of the alleyway. His hands were running through her hair, and she could feel the warmth of his body as he held her close. For Lorenzo, it was as if the world had stopped spinning. All he could think about was Isabel, and the way her lips felt against his. He pulled her even closer, savoring the feel of her body against his. He had never felt this kind of connection with anyone before, and he knew that he never wanted to let it go. Their moment together was fast but full of intensity and want, as if they were two magnets that were always moving towards each other. They had found a home in each other's arms, and every encounter was like an ethereal and eternal moment. The passion between them was electric, and they both knew that this was something special. As the kiss came to an end, Isabel pulled back slightly and looked up at Lorenzo, her eyes filled with tears. "I love you," she whispered, her voice barely above a whisper. Lorenzo's heart skipped a beat as he looked into her eyes, and he knew that he loved her too. Without a word, he scooped her even higher against the wall. They didn't need to say anything else. Their actions spoke louder than words ever could. It was like her words had ignited a spark within him, fueling his passion and intensity until they both found themselves swept up in a frenzy of ecstasy. As they kissed, Lorenzo could feel the raw passion coursing through his veins, and he knew that he never wanted to let go of this feeling. It was like he had found his home in Isabel's arms, and he never wanted to leave. Every touch, every kiss was filled with an ethereal feeling of belonging, like two halves of a whole finally coming together. It was as though they had been searching for each other for their entire lives, and now that they had finally found one another, they knew that they could never let go. Eventually, they parted, gasping for breath. As they looked into each other's eyes, Lorenzo could see the tears glistening in Isabel's eyes. He knew that this moment would stay with them forever, and he would cherish it always. It was a moment that was full of passion, love, and an unbreakable bond that not even distance would break.
