At that precise moment, the attending physician beamed at Gu Xixi. "Young Madam, please rest assured. The baby in your womb is perfectly fine and healthy!"
All color drained from Gu Xixi’s face. Her eyes flew wide open. She grabbed the doctor who was taking her pulse, her voice trembling violently. "W-What? Baby? Are you saying... I'm pregnant?"
She had always loved children, had dreamed of having them – but only with Zhao Zegang. This child… this child shouldn't exist.
She thought the nightmare was over, only to find it had become her shadow, her constant companion.
Why? Why was fate so cruel, dragging her back into that horrifying reality, forcing her to endure this t*****e all over again?
Outside, Yin Sichen had reached the peak of his fury.
"No! Grandmother, I absolutely refuse to marry her!" He was practically vibrating with rage. "I will not marry a woman I don't love!"
Chairwoman Yin regarded him with cold eyes, her voice equally icy. "Sichen, think very carefully. The company is currently finalizing a major partnership with the Korean conglomerate. Soon, the Chairman and his wife will visit China. Their core value? Family! If they discover you impregnated a woman and then abandoned her after using her, what do you think their opinion of the Yin financial empire will be?"
Yin Sichen froze. His grandmother's words struck like ice water, instantly dousing the flames of his anger. He lit a cigarette, drawing on it slowly. By the time he finished it, he was completely, chillingly calm.
Seeing his composure return, Chairwoman Yin pressed her advantage. "My position is clear. You must marry her. We cannot simply have her secretly bear the child and then discard the mother while keeping the heir! This Korean contract spans ten years. I will not tolerate anything jeopardizing it!"
"The Yin financial empire must have an heir! Sichen, you know how many of your uncles and cousins are sharpening their knives, coveting your position! Without a clear heir, the slightest misstep could destabilize your leadership!" Her voice remained level, but the threat was implicit. "With internal and external pressures mounting, Sichen, surely you understand what must be done?"
Yin Sichen wavered.
His grandmother was right.
He owed his position as President entirely to her fierce advocacy against dissenting relatives. His uncles and cousins resented him bitterly.
His stellar performance over the last two years – boosting the empire's value by twenty percent – had only temporarily silenced them.
He wasn't a reckless boy. He understood strategy. He simply rebelled against having his marriage dictated.
The scandalous photos a month ago had already raised eyebrows. Mishandling this pregnancy now, especially with the Koreans likely assuming the woman in those photos was his wife... The fallout could be severe.
He finally lifted his head, weariness etched onto his handsome features. "Fine, Grandmother. I will marry her. She can bear the child."
Chairwoman Yin finally nodded, a flicker of triumph in her eyes. This grandson was her greatest pride – intelligent, pragmatic, understanding the art of sacrifice and compromise essential for the Yin heir.
"Good. Go and... reassure the girl. Sichen," she said, patting his shoulder. "I trust you know how to handle this." Satisfied, she turned and departed.
Yin Sichen watched her leave, his gaze lowered. Behind his long, thick lashes and the sharp angles of his eyes, emotions churned, indecipherable to any observer.
He would marry. But living with this woman? Sharing a life? Utterly impossible.
A marriage contract was just a piece of paper. Yin Sichen had nothing to lose but his temporary freedom.
Inside the suite, Gu Xixi sat curled up on the bed, knees hugged to her chest, tears spilling silently. The medical staff exchanged bewildered glances.
Getting pregnant with the Yin heir was a monumental blessing! Why did she look utterly devastated?
Did she... not want this child?
It made no sense…
Yin Sichen entered the room slowly. His long, perfectly tailored legs carried him with effortless grace. His features were breathtakingly sculpted, but it was his eyes – sharp, slightly upturned at the corners – that radiated an unnerving blend of devilish elegance and absolute command.
"President... the Young Madam, she—" a doctor began hesitantly.
"I know. All of you, out." Yin Sichen's presence filled the room like a regal aura. The command was absolute. Heads bowed instantly, and the staff filed out without a word.
Gu Xixi heard his voice and jerked her head up. Her eyes locked onto Yin Sichen.
Seeing him, the dam holding back her tears shattered completely. They streamed down her face, hot and unchecked, impossible to stop.
She knew now, with crushing certainty, exactly who stood before her.
