I couldn't hold back the grin as I stepped out of the council chamber. It was settled, and I was going to be with Drake, as I had always wanted. The council had ruled in my favour, and Emily? She was going to be staying with Philip.
I hugged Ethan a little closer, looking around at the people scattering from the hall. It was all coming together now. I could practically taste the life that would be mine now: Drake by my side, ruling the Crimson Pack together, and Emily being left in the shadows with Philip. As I walked toward Drake's carriage, pride began to well up in my chest. I had succeeded. Everything I wanted was right within reach.
Just as I was about to step into the carriage, a shrill voice stopped me dead in my tracks.
