"oooh" Mandy squealed. "You look amazing I tell you. Those heels are a killer. Look at those legs. Damn! where have you been hiding them? Seth is going to piss himself when he sees you." We are back to our dorm room, currently getting ready for the Bonfire in our bathroom.
I'm wearing the black dress Mandy persuaded me to buy and heels that I thought I was going to fall off from when I first saw them. They aren't so bad though. I got the hang of it after walking across the room twice in them.
Mandy just finished doing my makeup and though it feels strange being dolled up like this, I think I like it. Not that I will be doing a lot of this in the future. Nope! Too much stress but I'm certainly more open to it now. For only special occasions. And Mandy –and the entire school seem to think that tonight is a special occasion.
There is a lot of commotion coming from the room across the hall. I remember it's Natasha's room. I imagine how dolled up she'd be tonight seeing that her everyday look is pretty intense. I tell Mandy that as she draws her eyeliner wing.
She laughs. "You won't believe she haven't always been like this. There was a time, back in middle school, that Natasha Rivers was a nerd. We were friends then." I keep forgetting they all grew up together.
"Wow. It's hard to see. I mean, look at her! She has Barbie clearly written across her forehead...... And what do you mean by you were friends?" I ask Mandy. I know I sound a bit nosy but I'm curious and besides she brought it up.
"We were friends. Real tight. She was the first person to talk to me like I was normal. Before middle school, I was homeschooled. I didn't really associate with the werewolves. They were mean to me. Tasha stood by me and told them to stand down and they did."
"What happened then? Why aren't you guys close anymore?"
"Highschool happened. We started to want different things." Mandy said, sounding vague. I decide to drop it for now. I will definitely milk it out of her later.
"How do I look?" I gasp, seeing her finished look. She is wearing a purple sequin dress that hugs her lovely figure. Her heels are even higher than mine and they compliment the dress perfectly. She curled her hair loosely and just let them flow. They stop at the middle of her back. Her makeup is stunning. She does a smokey eye and kept the rest simple.
"You look regal, Mandy." Her smile turns big and she does a little spin, her curls bouncing.
"How many guys do you think will leave their mates for me tonight?" She keeps a straight face, flipping her hair dramatically. I look her over, assessing.
"I think." I look her over again. "Two."
"Just two?" She look offended.
I nod. "And they must be really stupid."
"Or I'm just really gorgeous." She flips her hair again.
I smile at her. "Yes you are."
My phone rings and I take it out to see who's calling. It's an unknown number and I drop it, letting it ring. It rings again and this time, I pick it up.
"Hello." The caller is silent for a while before he responds.
"I'm outside. I'm not sure if I should fly up to your window or just walk right in. Which would you prefer?" Seth drawls out. I smile. I know he is kidding.
"You know you can't do that." Mandy is looking at me curiously, silently asking me who I'm on the phone with. I don't bother answering her. I'm sure Seth got my number from her.
"But I want to see my mate." He practically whines. Mandy smiles big, winking at me. Guess she heard that. "We haven't really had the chance to talk. Come on outside, Camille. We can find somewhere quiet to just talk."
He seem like a decent guy, I guess. It wouldn't hurt to see him and maybe get to know him. "Just talk? You sure you just want to talk with me?" I wince. I sound like I'm suggesting s*x to him.
"Just talk, Camille. I'm down if you have other plans though." I swear I can hear the smile in his voice.
"I don't. I mean have any other plans. We will just talk."
He laughs at me. The sound warming me up. "Okay. We will just talk. We have an hour before the Bonfire starts. You're going, right?"
"Yes I'm going." I say, shooting Mandy a dirty look. She conveniently avoid meeting my eye. "I will be outside in 5." I hang up before he can reply.
For the second time tonight, Mandy squealed. It hurts my already sensitive ears and I cover them.
"Goddess! Mandy!"
"Sorry." She smiles, not looking sorry at all. "I'm just so happy for you. He is like the sweetest guy ever. You won the mates lottery, I tell you." I laugh at that.
"I really hope he doesn't try anything stupid."
"If he does, just call me. Remember the punch I gave you? Knocked you out for two days. I'm sure I can take an alpha." I scowl at her, remembering the bruised nose I got from that. She laughs at me. I scowl even harder. I step out of the room, waving her goodbye.
"Make sure you attend the Bonfire. I will light you up if you don't." I hear Mandy say as I close the door. I stand in the middle of the hallway trying to soothe my nerves before meeting Seth. I take my phone out looking at my reflection in it. Okay! I look good. What if he thinks I dressed up for him? Will he appreciate it or will he think I'm trying too hard?
How will meeting him go? This is the first time we will be together alone. I know we were alone in my room just yesterday but it's different tonight. Tonight is intentional. It almost feels like a date. Is this what a date is like for werewolves? I doubt it.
I'm so engrossed in my thoughts, I didn't hear the door across the hall open. I look up when I hear the click of heels, I look up to see Natasha walking out, looking all glammed up. She is wearing a black dress and I cringe, feeling like a watered-down version of her.
Her hair is curled in loose waves and packed to one side, exposing her neck. I see a hickey peeking out from the neckline of her dress. There is just something about showing off a hickey. I find it extremely unappealing. Her dress is a bit shorter than mine. There is a diamond studded belt that frames her waist. She is wearing cute silver heels. She looks perfect.
She just stands there and stares at me for a while. She c***s her head, opening her mouth to speak. She spends so much time in my head for someone I have never actually spoken to. She close her mouth, shaking her head as if she have changed her mind and rather not speak. She walks away towards the elevator on the right.
As if released from a spell, I hurry downstairs. I remember Seth, waiting for me downstairs. I use the elevator on the left. Definitely don't want to risk running into Natasha. Our little encounter is enough weird for the night. As the elevator starts moving downwards, I find myself wondering 'what the hell was she about to say and why didn't she say it?'
**
I find Seth waiting for me behind an old statue a good distance from my dorm building. I have seen the statue before; on my way to class but I have never really stopped to look at it.
The statue is of a tall woman and a wolf. At first I thought she was carrying the wolf but they are actually sharing a body. It is beautiful and explain the bond we have with our wolves. It is not just you anymore. Your body is yours and your wolves'. It is like you guys are the same and yet different.
"You look amazing Cam. You sure we shouldn't go together? I don't think I want other guys staring at you."I don't answer him. I just look around, noticing other students closeby.
"People are going to see us together. Look." I say, pointing to a group of guys hanging around and playing a game. They stop and are now starting at us. "They are even staring at us." I groan, covering my face with my palms.
Seth laughs and the warm tone of it heats me up. I'm glad I am currently covering my face. I'm sure my cheeks must be red with blush. goddess save me.
Just his laugh and this. How long will I last before I start tearing my clothes off and begging him to take me. "They are looking at you, just standing there, talking to the air. They probably think you've lost a nut."
"What do you mean talking to the air. I'm talking to you."
"Are you?" He c***s his head to the side and he disappears. I mean where he was standing just now, there is nothing there. I throw a punch at where he was and I hear a wince. "Ouch. Who taught you how to throw a punch like that?" He asks, reappearing from thin air. He rubs his chest where my punch landed.
"That's the loophole there. I can be invisible but not invincible. The guys over there can't see me. No one can, just you."
"That's great. Can we leave now?" I ask him. I'm not comfortable here. I don't think it is a convenient place to talk. In as much as they can't see me with him, I don't want anyone thinking that I am crazy, talking to myself.
"Sure. Let's go." I follow him as he leads me through the campus. I get to see parts of the campus I haven't seen before. He showed me the guy's building where he sometimes stay when he is less busy at the Pack house. He shows me other buildings and point out what they are used for. He seems to know a lot about the campus.
I get to know a bit about his pack too. Earthborn pack. He leads me out of the campus through a little gate. I don't know if it's legal but I decide not to question him. We step out into the woods and I hesitate for a while before following him. I'm sure he didn't bring me out to kill. I don't know why but I trust him.
"So what other powers do you have?" I ask him. I know his element is wind and I've seen him turn invisible. I wonder what else he can do.
"Besides looking good." He smirks at me. I roll my eyes. That's a very cliche thing to say.
"Okay. I have more strength than the average wolf. I also have telepathic powers. I can talk to people in their heads. I have a bit of healing magic from my mother's side. Well that's about it."
"Telepathy. That's how I heard you in my head. You muttered 'mate'. I thought I dreamt it up."
"Yes. That was me. The power is pretty useless."
"I don't think it's useless."
"It is."
"It's not."
"All it does is just let me talk to people in their heads."
"It could turn the tide in war. You'll be able to communicate without the enemy listening. It is priceless."
He scoffs "But we aren't at war, darling."
