The first time I set eyes on Calista, she was looking for a way out.
I had offered her something simple, or at least I thought it would be simple— a marriage of convenience, for her freedom from Matteo with no emotions attached.
It was never supposed to spiral into something real. I hadn't imagined that I'd wake up praying to see her smile. I didn't know that she'd grow so deep on me, that I'd feel every flicker of pain she felt.
I didn't believe I would fall in love, but I did. I fell, brutally, unapologetically in love with Calista Cappellucci
Now, months later, she's still looking for a way out of... everything, and it's my fault. I promised her I would protect her, I promised her that I would shield her, but I failed.
I failed as her husband.
