Prologue
In the peaceful and silent night, no one in their right mind would roam the farm alone. The wind was cold. There were no streetlights around. There was no one in sight. Darkness invaded the whole plantation.
Yes, no one in their right mind would roam the farm alone. Except him. Except Damien Ozera.
He was here to investigate an occurrence that was happening in their agency yet here he was, standing beside a tree. Watching a helpless woman from afar fighting for her freedom.
The woman had her hands and ankles tied up with a rope. And the rope was tied up around the tree beside her. In this distance, he could not clearly see her face.
What was the color of her eyes? He was not sure if it was black or dark brown.
Damien was waiting for her screams. He was waiting for her to cry and shout for help.
Yet none came. Interesting.
Her body was filled with wounds. Blood covered her shirt. Her black hair was a mess. Damien wondered who did this to her. And he wondered why he cared.
Maybe the reason why she's rushing was that her captors would return soon. And she wanted to escape before their return.
Strong willed woman. She didn't know how to give up. Interesting.
"You cannot cut the ropes by doing that." Damien stated as he walked toward her. The woman's head immediately turned to him, surprised by his presence.
Now that he was near to her, he could now see her features clearer.
Black eyes, he realized.
She had a black messy hair, high cheekbones, slim body, full lips, just begging to be kissed. He narrowed his eyes at the thought.
Her color matched with the darkness of the night.
"I won't let you kill me. Mind you, I am not just any ordinary girl you can play with."
The woman was breathing heavily. Her words were full of poison and venom. If she was afraid right now, she was doing a good job in masking it.
Fierce. Strong-willed. Mysterious. He didn't know such woman existed in this world full of damsels in distress.
"And why will I kill you?"
Curiosity was shown in her beautiful face. She eyed him suspiciously, as if he was lying. "You're not going to kill me?"
"I won't."
As he said those words, the woman laughed hysterically. As if he was just saying something ridiculous. As if his words were funny. Damien's fist clenched. He didn't want anyone laughing at him.
"I knew it! You're one of the minions!"
"I'm not anyone's minion."
The woman's eyebrows got all scrunched together. She frowned as if he was out of his mind. And Damien found it cute. As the thought appeared, he quickly vanished it away. He didn't have time to consider someone as cute or what.
"If you will neither kill me nor save me, then why are you here?"
This woman had the guts to question him. If she only knew who he was. If she only knew. He wondered why this woman was acting brave and fierce.
Her hands and ankles were tied by a rope. Her whole body was filled with fresh wounds. Her clothes were soaked with red blood. Blood also stained the scarf around her neck. Yet she didn't mind the pain. She was the most stubborn woman Damien has ever met.
"Why are you here?" She repeated.
I didn't know the answer myself, woman. I didn't know the answer myself.
"I will repeat the question. Why are you—"
Her head jerked up when she heard the footsteps. Anger rose in her pretty black eyes. Damien didn't turn around. He wanted to watch the mysterious woman. And he would do what he wanted.
"Our captive finds company." Sabi ng isang barakong boses sa likuran ni Damien pero hindi niya ito pinansin. Nanatili siyang nakatitig sa babaeng nasa harapan niya.
"Do you want our girl? Sorry, but we find her first." Another male voice joined the conversation. They were talking as if this woman was a toy. As if she was just a material they wanted to use. That made Damien's blood boil in anger.
The two men stepped forward toward the woman. She didn't show any emotion. No fear. No scream. None at all.
But Damien noticed the shaking of her fingers. He noticed the way she stepped back when the men approached. She was afraid, but she didn't want anyone to know that she was afraid.
One of the men was about to touch her when Damien spoke, "Don't."
The man's hand stopped midway. He looked at Damien with a smirk on his face, as if insulting him. "When I do? What will happen?"
Damien just looked at him with no emotion at all. This man didn't look afraid at all. Let's see if he would still wear that confident smirk after he broke his jaw.
"You wanna see what will happen?"
"Yeah, man. Show me." The man replied, smiling at him like he was confident he would win.
Damien advanced forward. He wrapped his palm around the man's throat and lifted him up off the ground. The man was struggling against his grip but he didn't let go.
"Let.. me.. down."
The man pleaded but Damien didn't listen. The other man beside him was now shaking in fear. His face was red as a tomato.
"Put my friend down! I'm warning you."
Damien laughed maniacally. Warning him? Oh, did this man expect that he would be afraid? No. A guy like him didn't know how to be afraid.
Sinakal din ni Damien ang lalaking iyon at tinaas sa ere. Ang kaliwa niyang kamay ay sinasakal ang unang lalaki at ang kanan naman niyang kamay ay sinasakal ang isa pa. He knew that it was rude to kill two men in front of an innocent lady, but he would deal with that later. For now, his business was to take the life of these two bastards.
After he made sure that the two men were not breathing anymore, he bumped their heads and just threw their lifeless bodies on the ground. He wiped his hands on his shirt like he just threw a sack of cement.
Now it's time to deal with the woman. For sure, she was now terrified and afraid. He would not be surprised if he saw her crying silently in the corner.
So he turned his head toward her.
And he was surprised to see her poker face. She was just staring at him like he didn't just kill two men in front of her. Like it was just normal for her to see people being killed, like it was not a big deal. Interesting.
"Impressive moves. But you're a bit lame in fighting, I observe."
Damien's jaw clenched. Him? The pier agent of Safronov? Lame in fighting? This girl had the guts.
"Insulted, are you?" The woman teased. But there was something about her voice now, it sounded weak and dizzy. Only then that Damien noticed the slow swaying of her body like she was about to pass out. Nice body, by the way.
"What's your name?" The woman asked as he untied the rope around her hands in just seconds. The rope left red marks on her wrists. He wondered how many hours she was tied up. He caressed the red marks using his fingers. He felt her skin tingled beneath his touch.
"Damien Ozera. And you?"
The girl opened her mouth and was about to answer him when she passed out. Damien caught her small body just in time.
