Chapter 5
“Slam!”
I pushed the door to my room open. I dragged my wrecked body inside. This time I wouldn’t be foolish, I locked the door and pushed a desk behind it.
After securing the door, I had a brief moment to breathe. I didn’t stop there, I crawled over to my bedside, reaching for my drawer. I grabbed the tape from inside and made my way to the small windows.
“Tear!”
I tore off tape and sealed the small windows shut. I made my way to the tiny compartment beside my bathroom. I knew from the start that things could get tough so I asked Xavier to stop on the road while I bought essentials.
He looked at me strangely but didn’t bother to ask. On the way he gave me an old duffel bag.
“Keep it in here”
He opened the rough looking duffel bag expecting me to put the stuff in. I stared in disgust, my hands pushing it away.
“Do you think it’s like moving to a new apartment?”
“You can’t even bring those item in”
“Put it here…I’ll help you sneak it in”
He stretched out the duffel bag again and I had no choice but to put it in. Who knew upon entering here that these things would be scarce necessities.
I kept the things I bought in the secret compartment. I brought out the mini stove I bought and a medium size pot I kept in the corner. I filled the pot with water and let it boil on the stove.
In this place, water was another scarce necessity. We had to find our own water. On the first day here, I was the last person to reach the well and by the time it was my turn the water was gone.
After that day I became smarter. During my free time, I would scout the area for water. The first few days were tough but before the week ended I found a large pure source of water.
I didn’t tell anyone, I secretly stored water in my cottage. Lucky for me,there was an empty barrel I could use to store it.
The water on the stove boiled and I poured the hot water in a bucket. I took that bucket to the bathroom and added a bit of cold water to adjust the temperature.
As the slightly hot water touched my skin I relaxed. I took a bath, washed the dried blood on my skin and at the same time warmed my body.
“Urggg”
My stomach rumbled. I checked outside, the sky was almost pitch black. By this time dinner would be over, plus it wasn’t safe to risk going outside .
I reached into the small compartment, bringing out a packet of ramen I specifically brought for days like this. After cooking and eating the ramen I felt satisfied.
I stuck my head under my bed, reaching for the herbal ointment I made for wounds. I grabbed it and slowly applied it on my injuries.
My wounds stung as the ointment was applied. My mind drifts back to the moment where I felt desperate for any sort of help. The punches that rained down on me. The insults they hurled at me.
Something in my head snapped. Just like the day Xavier provoked me,trying to get a reaction from me. The day he mocked my pain, and exposed wounds I was trying to cover.
My eyes flashed with something deadly. I remembered the faces of each and every girl that punched me,stomped on me and hurled insults at me. I looked at their faces to remember them,so that I wouldn’t mistakenly hurt the wrong person.
For every action, there is a repercussion. For every crime you commit there is a price to pay. Sometimes people pay the price with their blood or lives.
The pain I felt when crawling through the snow just to make it out alive. Each time I fell, I would see their smug faces staring back at me. They slept peacefully while my hands bled from cuts they inflicted upon me.
My eyes darkened each time their faces flashed in my mind. I forced myself to sleep through the night. But even in sleep they haunted me, I dreamt of her punch raining down on me.
I woke up early in the morning, with sweat-drenched clothes and sheets. I strode towards the window, peeked outside and as expected…everywhere was dark .
I touched my wounds and they didn’t sting like before. The ointment was a miracle worker. My face swelling reduced but the small cuts and redness were still visible.
I changed into an all black overall and blended into the darkness. The road outside was rough and full of snow. I walked through the street and no cottage’s light was on. I made my way to the cottage on the far end.
I twisted open the doorknob and behold! The door wasn’t locked. As expected of that stupid cunt. She knew how to fight for a man that wasn’t hers but forgot how to lock a door!
She laid peacefully on the bed, snuggled around her sheets. I stepped closer, and couldn’t help but hate that satisfied look she had.
“Whoosh!”
A flying punch landed on her face. She tried to scream but I stuffed a dirty rag in her mouth. My hand hurt from the punch but I didn’t stop.
She gained momentum and turned me over. She started attacking but I managed to dodge. While blocking her attack, I didn’t notice her other hand.
She distracted me with one hand then struck with the other. She punched my rib cage hard and I bet I could feel it shatter.
In the fight, she now had the upper hand. She was on top of me, while her hands squeezed my throat. I struggled to reach my hand in my pocket. But eventually I managed to, I grabbed the sharpened wood and stabbed it into her neck.
It pierced her major artery. I dragged the stick out and her blood gushed out. I pushed her off me and sprinted out of her cottage.
I ran back to my cottage. My hands covered in a red sticky substance. I glanced down at my now dirty hands and just burst out laughing. My loud laughs later become sobs then hushed sounds. I knew what I started, so I must finish it.
