Chapter 4
My heart leaped into my throat. I slowly reached out to the weapon I kept under my bed. It was a self made weapon, I sharpened the end of a tree branch and turned it into a defense weapon.
The figure approached, slowly getting closer. I could feel the figure’s sharp gaze locked on my face.
My hand was struggling to grab the weapon. It was further away from my reach. I pretended to move a bit to the side using the opportunity to grab the weapon.
The figure reached my bed side. I could feel the person’s breath getting closer. I sprang into action, positioning the sharpened wood at the person’s neck.
“Don’t come any closer!”
“I will hurt you!”
I screamed on top of my lungs, trying to scare away the figure. The room was dark and I couldn’t tell who the person was. The person stayed still, not speaking or moving.
With swift movements, I lit the almost burnt out candle at my bedside. The soft glow of the candle reflected on his face, showing his perfect jaw line and hazel eyes.
“Xavier?”
I called out to him. The building tension in my chest eased. I kept the weapon under my pillow, turning to glare at him.
“Creative”
He hummed in approval. He rolled over to the other side of the bed, lying down lazily.
“I guess knocking is out of your dictionary”
I added a bit of sarcasm to let him know I was pissed.
“Hm…”
He dismissed me casually with just one word! I climbed on top of him, straddling him.
“You have to leave”
I punched his chest hard signaling to the door. He turned, trapping me beneath him.
His hard chest pressed against me, my cheeks redden. I suddenly realized that I wasn’t wearing any undergarments under my clothes.
I blushed furiously, turning my head to the side to avoid his piercing gaze. He probably felt everything! I dared not look at him.
“Thud!”
The sound of something falling down outside broke the building tension. A flurry of frantic footsteps could also be heard.
We instinctively glanced at the door. Xavier released me from his grasp. He stood up slowly adjusting his clothes. He put on the wind breaker that I didn’t know he dropped when he came in.
He was about to head for the door but I screamed,
“Wait!”
He turned to look at me, his eyes asking what I needed.
“Did you only visit me?”
I gathered my courage to ask,my eyes avoided his. He didn’t say anything, he continued his way to the door.
As he opened the door, cold breeze rushed in,
“Keep the coin safe”
After saying that, he disappeared into the night. His black clothes blended in the darkness.
His scent disappeared into the cold winter air. I stared at the closed door, his presence now gone. The emptiness was loud in the silent room.
The heat on his side of the bed became cold. It was as if his presence was an illusion.
My eyes drooped, sleep slowly enveloping me. The door creaked open, I assumed it was Xavier so I didn’t move.
The footsteps were heavier and it seemed to be more than one person. My eyes snapped open but it was too late.
“Whack!”
I was punched in the face. Blood dripped from my nose to the bedsheet. The person didn’t stop, the punches rained harder . Blood blurred my vision, I tried to protect my head and my face but the person kept on hitting .
I felt other people grab me. I was yanked off the bed. My body hit the ground with a loud ‘thud’. My skin slid against the rough floor as they dragged me out.
I could feel a burning sensation all over my skin. The burning feeling on my skin from being dragged through the rough floor.
I tried to resist but they just hit harder. I soon realized that they were not my match. There is power in numbers and they have that advantage. I rather submit than resist, it saves me the trouble.
The ground beneath me felt cold and moist. I could tell from the ground that they were taking me deep into the frozen forest.
I felt a dropping sensation in my gut. It seemed like they planned to finish me there. My breath caught in my throat, I was too injured to try and call for help but I also knew no one would help.
As the journey continued, the pain and anxiety intensified. They finally stopped, letting go of my body.
I fell lifelessly on the ground, the pain numbing my senses. My head ached terribly, I felt like I could throw up at any moment.
I struggled to open my eyes, their punches made my face swell. I managed to barely open my eyes. I looked up, finally catching a glimpse of the people assaulting me.
I saw at least thirteen girls surrounding me. Their expressions were grim. They look like I owed them money. I tried to speak but the pain made me pause. I gathered my strength to speak. My voice came out raspy and raw.
“What do you want…?”
I struggled to even catch my breath. I started wheezing and coughing. A large amount of blood gushed out of my throat. Crimson red stained the pure snow, the contrast was alarming.
The metallic scent of blood blended into the air. The girls turn to look at me viciously. Their gaze was full of hatred and jealousy.
“So..you're Xavier’s b***h?”
One of the girls came closer and slapped me.
“Do you think you're special?”
Another girl sneered, raising her leg and stomped hard on my leg. The assault and abuse was continuous. They probably thought I was Xavier’s f**k toy, not to mention their intense jealousy.
I didn’t respond, my eyes just scanned them. I was trying to etch their faces deep in my mind. I didn’t stop them, I let them vent their hatred and jealousy by hitting me continuously.
I didn’t run or move, I just looked at their faces. They noticed my intense gaze and instinctively moved back.
A faint buzz echoed in my head. Slowly it became louder, my vision slowly blurred. Blood dripped down my nose. Still yet I kept my unfocused gaze on them. I scanned the girls again, my gaze slightly softened when I didn’t see one particular figure.
Darkness closed in, I couldn’t escape. My mind became a foggy mess. Suddenly, everything became dark. I blacked out.
*****
Hours later…
My eyes fluttered open. My body ached from the cold and frost bites. The cold wind caressed my body, making me shiver.
I surveyed my surroundings. I soon realized I was left on top of a large pile of snow. If the wild creatures didn’t get me,hypothermia would have gotten me first.
The trees swayed fiercely in the forest. I curled into a ball, trapping some warmth in my arms but it was not enough. My arms instinctively clenched tighter.
‘Matches!’
I remembered keeping a box of matches in my pocket! My hand fumbled around, trying to search for the matches. Let alone the matches, I didn't see the pocket! I looked down at my leg and froze.
There was nothing there! No trousers! I glanced and my chest and sure enough no clothes there too.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, there were large purple patches all of my body! Probably from the frost bite.
The sky above me slowly darkened. The cold wind became sharper and harsher. A deafening roar echoes across the forest.
A strong blizzard was coming!
A dense and huge amount of snow was approaching! At most I had twenty minutes before the snow storm hits here.
I tried to stand but I fell miserably on my face. I felt hot angry tears pour down my face. I felt like this was the end. I stared at the incoming blizzard ahead and just froze.
I felt like any attempt would be useless! I was left deep inside the forest with no clothes or survival gears. Frustration and hopelessness settled in my chest.
“Ah!”
I screamed out of frustration. The storm was approaching,my leg was not working! It seemed like the end.
“NO!”
“It’s not over until I win!”
I screamed again, but this time louder. My eyes burned with resentment and determination. This time I won’t let the people who schemed against me to win.
Thirteen right? I sneered. They don’t know what they messed with!
