Chapter 4

I woke up 3 hours later, jolted awake by the insistent buzz of my phone. There were no missed calls on the screen, but the group chat that was usually dead silent was blowing up with nonstop messages. The second I tapped into it, it felt like a bucket of ice-cold water had been dumped straight over my head, freezing me to the bone. Lily had publicly posted my intimate video with Ryan in the group chat. A: Holy moly, this is wild! I can't believe Hannah agreed to film this stuff with Ryan. I can even see that mole on her body clear as day. That's insane!! B: Damn, Hannah had a great body back in the day. Ryan really hit the jackpot back then, huh? C: After seeing this, I'll never be able to look at Hannah the same way again! The messages in the group kept piling up. After the video was posted, neither Ryan nor Lily said a word the whole time. Just when everyone started guessing that Lily had gone too far this time and Ryan had actually had a huge fight with her, Lily sent another video. It showed Ryan chasing her around, play-fighting. "Lily! I'll be your free personal slave for a whole month, just delete the video already!" The footage was shaky, but anyone could tell he wasn't even slightly angry. Lily refused to delete it. Ryan had no choice but to give in and finally typed a message in the group. Ryan: Hell, you all just saw my wife naked. I'm so pissed off I don't even know where to direct it. If any of you breathes a word of this to anyone outside this group, you're dead to me. Understand? The group erupted in teasing hoots and jokes. After a flood of suggestive comments filled the screen, someone suddenly spoke up. A: Wait a second. Do you think Hannah's watching this right now? Only then did everyone remember I was in the group too. B: Oh s**t! We're in the wrong chat! Hannah's in this group! The next second, I was kicked out of the chat. Big, scalding tears plopped onto my phone screen one after another. My hands were shaking so bad I could barely hold onto the device. That video was filmed the first time Ryan and I slept together. He'd sweet-talked me into doing it, saying he wanted to keep it as a memory, to treasure it forever. I'd said yes. I'd believed that garbage about "treasuring" it. Believed it so hard that right now I felt like a humiliating clown stripped bare, splayed out in front of all these people for them to gawk at, snicker over, and mock as they pleased. Ryan, who'd been ignoring all my calls earlier, finally phoned me. "You... are you at the hospital? Didn't check your phone just now?" I let out a soft, quiet "hm". He heaved a sigh of relief. "Babe, I was fixing Lily's shower earlier, didn't hear your calls. What's up? Did the prenatal checkup turn up anything wrong?" I opened my mouth, my voice hoarse as gravel. "No. Everything's fine." Ryan mumbled a couple of half-hearted reminders and hung up. I took a long, deep breath. I was done with Ryan. Completely, totally, 100 percent done. I called a lawyer and asked them to draw up the divorce papers right away. I waited until I had steadied myself enough to stand on my own two feet at the hospital, then bolted straight to the wedding venue to cancel our booking. But when I got there, the front desk staff dropped a bombshell. The wedding slot we'd reserved for 6 months from now had been reassigned to someone else. It was also moved up all the way to tomorrow. I pulled up Lily's latest social media post almost on muscle memory. Of course she'd posted about it. The photo showed her in a wedding dress, with Ryan on one knee, gazing up at her. Woohoo~ I'm so touched! To make it up to me, Ryan's actually gonna grant my silly little wish to play house at our wedding! Ryan had replied, all soft and sweet. Ryan: [As long as you like it. We'll do the whole wedding ceremony tomorrow for fun, get everyone to come along.] I froze where I stood, the whole world spinning so hard I thought I'd pass out. It hit me like a freight train right then. The guy I'd burned every bridge and cut off every single person I loved to be with was nothing but a total, irredeemable piece of garbage. I squeezed my eyes shut for a second. 'So they're having a wedding. Well, they can't have a proper wedding without blessings, can they?' I called Ryan's parents first, and told them the wedding had been moved up to tomorrow. I told them to round up every last relative and get them into town overnight, no exceptions. After that, I reached out to every single one of Ryan's bosses and colleagues, and invited them all to a free, all-you-can-eat wedding feast on the house. The next day, right after Ryan left the house, I headed over to the hotel. I positioned myself at the entrance to block every arriving guest, and started a livestream at the same time.
