“Helixis,” I said, the word tasting bitter. “Every shady deal that company buried had his fingerprints on it. He made people disappear. Journalists, whistleblowers, employees. Anyone who tried to expose them. You’ve read the stories, but the ones you never saw, he buried those. He made sure nothing bad about Helixis ever reached the public.”
She shook her head slowly. “Why didn't you tell me this?”
“I was hoping to keep you safe, away from these bastards. But there you have it. That’s what he’s good at. Making people believe he’s harmless.”
