Third person's POV
After Scarlett left Jake continued for a while throwing the pebbles into the waters while he let his thoughts loose. The instant he saw those bruises, what flashed in his mind wasn’t her image at the moment it was her bloody image that day that reflected in his mind and for a while his other thoughts disappeared immediately but now they were free to run. And his first ones were that he was responsible for this. He had driven her back to where she had come from. He may not have done it physically or directly but he was the reason Damon was in their lives, he was the whole reason why Damon had lashed out at her. At this thought he remembered Scarlett’s words, what was is again ‘ Don’t blame myself for the actions of others' How was he going to do that. He wondered.
