Warming Up

459 Words
After dropping Missy off at their parents' house, Jeremy decided to go for a short run near his new house. About a quarter mile away, he noticed the houses looked familiar. He realized that he had been here before. It was Abby's old neighborhood. Jeremy wondered if she was home for the wedding like Missy. Who knew if she would even come. Abby had been missing in action since the party all those years ago. Jeremy had thought things would be awkward after that night but he hadn't expected her to disappear. Jeremy rounded the corner and headed back home to see Andrea before heading into the office. Today was his first day at his new job. He wanted to make a good impression, and if he was honest, he was a little nervous. Jeremy had been a lead engineer at his old job in North Carolina, but this was different. He wanted to be here for a long time so he needed to start off on the right foot. He was hoping this run would help clear his mind before meeting everyone in the office. Just to be sure, he pushed himself to run another mile before turning back towards home. Andrea was in the kitchen when Jeremy walked in. He saw her dancing around while she was making them breakfast and he couldn't help admiring her. Jeremy walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist, “Morning, babe." She turned toward him, “You got up early this morning…” "Yeah I had to go pick up Missy from her friend's house.” “Was everything alright?” she looked concerned. “Aside from her hang over, she was fine,” he replied. ”Good, now go get in the shower, breakfast will be ready when you get out. You can't be late on your first day!" Jeremy showered and dressed for the day. He was putting his watch on when Andrea stuck her head in their bedroom. “Come on slow poke, breakfast is getting cold!” He gave her an appraising look and pulled her into his arms, "maybe I'll have to find something else to satisfy my hunger then.” “None of that right now, you don't have time!" she scolded playfully. The couple made their way into the kitchen. They ate and read the paper together until Jeremy had to leave. Packing up his bag he asked, “what are your plans for the day?" “Unpacking, then maybe I'll get some writing done." “Good, maybe that will keep you from missing me too much while I'm at work," he teased. Andrea swatted him and laughed before giving him a kiss as he walked out the door.
