Even though Jessica had seen it hundreds of times, the view of the Rockies from the cop car startled her. She soaked in the vista and almost forgot she was with a bossy tribal policewoman searching for a surfer dude oil mogul and a beautiful taciturn Native girl. She imagined herself instead living amongst the grizzlies and wolves, grazing on wild huckleberries and pine nuts. She wondered what it would be like to be a bobcat, or a fox, or even a rabbit, sniffing her way through the world with her hyper-vigilant sense of smell.
