When she regained consciousness, Kimi was in the Blackfeet Community Hospital. As she absently stared out the window at Rowdy Blackthorn’s hideous sculpture, suddenly the goofy metal forest animals came to life and started dancing. A loud beeping noise interrupted the funny scene and alerted her to a machine on wheels next to her bed. It was screaming and flashing. She struggled against the tubes stemming from the red-eyed monster that were yanking at the back of her hand. That must be why her hand hurt.
When she tried to touch her head—it hurt even worse, the tubes resisted and her hand snapped back to her side. Her whole body hurt, but the pain in her head was excruciating and something was wrapped around it, almost covering her eyes. She felt queasy and the room was spinning.
