The Help

After the amazing pizza and the surprisingly yummy salad that Seira made, I showed them to the guest room that had a queen-sized bed. “This will be your room, no more sleeping on couches,” I said, raising my eyebrows with a small smirk.

Seira giggled and went into the room, “Sparring at sunrise?” Maddox asked.

“Sounds good,” I smiled.

“Seira has been texting her friend, she says she will be here early to talk to you,” Maddox added with a smile before turning into the room and closing the door.

Walking towards my bedroom, I noted that the kitchen was clean, the pizza box was on top of the dustbin and the platter with the plates we had used were all on the draining board by the sink, washed and everything. Seira was definitely good because I knew she had come inside after we had finished eating, but it wasn't for that long.

Changing into my track pants, I got into bed and fell asleep almost immediately.

A snow-white wolf with green eyes was chasing me, snapping at my heels. No matter how fast I ran, I just couldn't get away!

Sitting up, breathing heavily, I ran my hand over my face and realized that I was covered in sweat. I got up and went to the bathroom, turning on the taps in the shower so that the spray was ice cold. I undressed and stepped in. The icy blast of water washed away the panic I had felt when the wolf was chasing me, the feeling that I could not get away no matter how hard I tried.

A loud knock at the bedroom door brought me back to my senses. “Coming!” I shouted.

Turning off the water and stepping out, I dried myself quickly. Going to the cupboard, I grabbed clean pants and opened the door, only to find Maddox standing there with Seira and waiting, “Morning, my friend confirmed she would be here at seven-thirty, that okay?” she asked.

“Um, sure, have coffee or something and chat, I dunno what time Maddox and I will be finished. I trust your judgement. If she wants the job, she can have it. Her salary will be double what you got at the store. That good?” I said, doing the math quickly.

Seira stood with a shocked look on her face, “Sure, that sounds fine,” she almost stuttered.

“Maddox and I need to train,” I told her, “You ready?” I asked, turning to him.

“I was ready the day I was born,” he said chuckling, as we moved to go outside. We took off our pants, threw them over the back of the patio chairs, and shifted, running into the trees together so that we would be undisturbed. I owned all of this land, so anyone coming in here would essentially be trespassing, but we would smell them before they saw us.

In our wolf forms, we stood in the middle of the forest and stared at each other, realizing for the first time that we couldn't yet communicate in this form. We shifted back, “Well, this is going to make training a lot more difficult,” I huffed.

“It definitely would cause delay, unless you are willing to accept me as your Beta,” Maddox said, looking at the ground, a glimmer of hope had shone in his eyes. Clearly he hoped I would say yes.

I smiled, “Maddox, I accept you as my Beta, loyal to myself as your Alpha,” I said to him.

His face shot up, and he smiled broadly, “Cole, I accept you as my Alpha, I will be loyal to you only,” he added.

We shifted and the games began.

Meanwhile, back at the cabin, Seira felt the link that Maddox had made, being able to now feel that they had a new Alpha, she was happier than she thought she could ever be.

Her friend had just arrived in a beat-up Volkswagen, rust showing through most of it, but she didn't have the funds to buy anything new.

They hugged and Seira led her inside, explaining what the job would be. Her friend accepted without even hearing half of what she said.

Worried, Seira asked, “What's wrong with you today? I know that you have been under a lot of stress, but it’s as though you didn't even hear what I just said.”

She dissolved into tears, and all she could muster was, “He kicked me out of the pack this morning.”

Out in the forest, Maddox suddenly stalled mid-fight, “Seira has her friend there and she is very upset. Your father just kicked her out of the pack this morning,” he said through the mind-link.

We decided to cut the training short and head back to the cabin, pulling our pants back on. When we got to the patio, I froze as Maddox walked into the cabin with the purpose of getting to his mate, who felt upset by her friends dilemma, not even realizing that I wasn't following him.

I could smell the most amazing scent. Lilies had never smelled as good to me as they did now, but they seemed to be crying. The lilies were sad.

Walking forward cautiously, I stepped into the cabin. The scent hit me harder as my wolf howled inside me, “Mate!”

“Wait, what?” I said out loud, without realizing, and then saw that everyone was staring at me, but all I could focus on were the beautiful emerald eyes that had been plaguing my dreams the last two nights, though it felt like an eternity that I had seen them last.

“Lily,” I said in a breathy whisper.

“Cole,” she breathed, and then she was in my arms, crying her heart out.

I ran my one hand over her silky blonde hair, making soothing noises, my other arm around her waist. Trying to keep my wits about me, and not dragging her to the bedroom to mate. She was upset, and I needed to be there for her emotionally. We hadn't seen each other in fourteen years, yet it felt like only yesterday that she fed me the meal she made when she was eight.

I kissed her temple, then her cheek, lifting her face so that I could see her, tears running down her face, I kissed them away.

“My darling Lily, how I have missed you,” I said to her in a husky voice, kissing the tip of her button nose.

She tried drying her tears on her sleeve, but more kept rolling down her cheeks. “I thought you were dead, I missed you so much,” she sniffed, as I pulled her down onto my lap when I sat on the couch.

Seira came to sit next to us, “Lily, I am truly sorry about what happened this morning, but just see where it led you. You’ve found your mate!” she ended in a squeal, knowing the signs.

“What,” Lily asked, blinking unsurely.

“Honestly Lily, take a deep breath,” Seira said, exasperated.

As Lily breathed in deeply through her nose, her eyes grew wide and she smiled, her whole face lit up.

“You’re my mate, Cole!” she exclaimed.

“That I am, darling,” I smiled and kissed her.

“Oh, get a room!” Seira and Maddox said together, and we all packed up laughing.

“Seira, Maddox and I are in desperate need of breakfast. Do you think you could whip something up?” I asked her, not really wanting to let Lily go, but knowing that she and Seira would want to talk in the kitchen together.

I could see that Lily was reluctant to let me go as well, so I gave her a kiss, telling her, “I will never leave you again, I promise,” I reassured her. I need to go shower quickly, then I will be back.

“Yeah, I think a shower is a good idea,” Maddox said as he walked towards their en-suite.

I could hear the girls squeal again as I walked towards my room, wishing that it was evening, and I could take Lily to bed with me. Sighing, I walked into the bathroom alone and turned on the water to luke-warm, wanting to wash all the sweat and dirt off.

I stood there and enjoyed the warmth of the water running over my tight muscles, happiness radiating from me at finding my mate, my Lily.

Just the thought of her brought the smell of lilies to me, and suddenly I could feel her hands on my chest. Looking down, I saw her standing in front of me, in the shower, naked; and such beauty I had never seen before. Her skin was milk white and smooth, her breasts perky, and her legs went on forever, even though she was shorter than I was, she was tall for a woman.

Walking out on to the patio, Maddox whistled as he inhaled, “Marked her already, huh? Couldn’t wait,” he quipped.

As Lily blushed, I could feel myself going a light shade of pink. “He blushes,” Seira swooned.

“Let’s eat,” was all I could come up with, which caused all four of us to chuckle.
