Frustrations

“... I must say, that is the first time that you have fallen asleep,” Viola ended. “Sorry,” I said groggily. “No, do not be sorry, Monsieur. This means that you were restful, and that makes me happy. You have been very tense when I rubbed your back the past few weeks, it is good for you to rest.” she ended with a gentle smile. “Thank you, Viola, that will be all for now. I think that I need to get ready and go over my files,” I ended, excusing her. I heard the soft click of the door as Viola left. Taking a deep breath, I let it out in a rush. I might as well go and see what I could do about those papers I needed to have a look at before the meeting, seeing that I was awake. Getting up off of the massage table, I walked to my bedroom cupboard and got out a pair of sweat pants which I pulled on before I walked towards my office. Pushing the door open, I walked towards the mini bar that I had there, took an espresso cup off the shelf, and placing it on the coffee machine, pushed the ON button. The decadent smell of my hazelnut blended coffee beans permeated the room, teasing my nose. Taking a mug off the shelf, I drank the shot of espresso in one go and took my cup of coffee to my large mahogany desk, putting it onto the glass coaster next to my computer. Sitting down in my $ 2 500,00 chair, I put my feet, crossed at ankles, on top of the desk, swivelling so that I would be able to reach my coffee more easily. Pulling the small chain to switch on my desk lamp, I picked up the papers that were strewn across my desk and started reading. My company was very profitable, but we needed to do more. I wanted more. It was the thrill of the chase within me, then moving in for the kill, so to speak. I took sips of my coffee as I carried on reading, something in the back of my mind bothering me, keeping me from giving one-hundred-percent of my attention to the budget that I was currently looking at. I put the papers down distractedly, and held my cup between both hands, coaxing the last of the heat from the dregs of the coffee that I had left. As a shifter, I did not need extra heat, I was always warm enough. In fact, some of the suits that I had worn when I had just started in business were stifling. Now everything that I owned was made with only the best cotton, that breathed as though it had its own lungs. For some reason I couldn't pinpoint where my distraction came from, had it been something that I had read in the reports or budget that had been incorrect. Frustration started to eat at me and I stood, throwing the coffee cup at the wall across from me, seeing it shatter into small pieces, I realized what I had done. Even though I could buy the factory that made these cups with my small change, I was not a wasteful man, I valued everything that I had and did not waste if I could help it. I gave donations to orphanages, because I knew what it was like to go without, and if I could change that for some children out there, I sure as hell would do it. Smashing a cup against the wall seemed like such a little thing, but I knew that this was not who I was. I shut the lamp off and walked towards the gym I had set up for myself. Maybe running would be a good idea. I set the treadmill I had on a slow run with a steady incline, maybe making it tough for myself would push me to focus on what I had to get done today and get rid of the frustration still pulsing through me. As I ran, the frustration grew, the urge to do something about it, growing too, and before I knew it, I had shifted and I was this huge black wolf trying to run on a treadmill that was set at an incline. My paws were way too big for the space that was available, and myself too heavy for the machine. I fell down and heard the machine breaking, a howl escaping from between my jaws, menacing and filled with frustration. The last thing I saw before I passed out, was a small trail of smoke rising from the treadmill that would never again be used. I woke up lying on the floor of my gym, I had shifted back to my human form, and everything hurt. I remembered the howl and groaned. So many other wolves would have heard the howl, and wondered. The pack in town, City Slickers, would all know that the howl had not come from one of their packs, I was very good at masking my scent, but they would be on the lookout. I would have to be very careful about what I did in the next couple of weeks. I would not be able to make one more mistake, I would have to sort this out, this frustration. After my meeting today, I would need to go away. I would go to the woods to the south where I owned a cabin and I could run there, let my wolf get out and have freedom for a week. I was pretty sure that there were no packs in that area, so I would be alone. I could do whatever I wanted. My alarm started going off in my room, so I got up and decided I would clean the mess in the gym when I got back from the cabin. The treadmill no longer smoked and I would ask Viola to switch off the mains. That only left the fridges running, so that nothing would be able to explode or catch fire. Getting to my room, I shut off the alarm and grabbed my duffle bag, filling it with things that I would need. Some clothing, shoes, socks, shaving stuff, towel, shower gel, toothbrush, and toothpaste. Grabbing my cell phone and chucking the charger into the bag, I went to my study and got my laptop, slid it into its carrier bag and put it next to my bedroom door. I got dressed in one of my best suits and made sure that I looked like the owner and CEO of my company should. I held my staff to high standards when it came to presentations. I expected them to look decent. Picking up my phone again, I dialled Viola and put it on speaker phone, placing the phone on the bedside table so that I could tie my shoelaces. "Monsieur?” I heard her answer uncertainly. “Viola, I am going out of town for a while. I would like you to shut off the mains, only just leaving the fridges running for me, please?” I explained to her shortly. “I will do that for you,” she said happily, “is there anything else?” she asked. “No, I will let you know when I am back,” I said, killing the call. I picked up all of my stuff and walked to the door, locking it behind me, which only ever happened when I was not in the penthouse. Pushing the button for the elevator, I checked my personal emails on my phone. Nothing. Which means that I had not been found yet. The Personal Investigator that I had hired was a shifter and knew all about the legend of the Golden-eyed-shifter. He was informed to let me know if there was any news about myself being found or hunted, though my father probably thought that I had died, as I had not come back for revenge or come to claim my legacy. The fool that he was, he thought that he was safe, only because I did not care to leave the life that I had now. I was comfortable and was doing very well for myself, who would want to leave that for what I would have to do to get the position of Alpha. The elevator arrived with a monotonous ding and I walked inside, turning around and pressing the button for the garage in the basement. I put my phone into my pocket and stood waiting as the elevator descended. When the elevator doors opened, I walked towards my truck and loaded all of my stuff, getting in and driving towards the building where most of my company's business was managed and completed. The meeting passed by in a blur and I knew that we came to the conclusion that the next five years were going to be amazing and I would be even more wealthy than I am now, but I hardly remember any of it. I just couldn't wait to get out of there and leave for the cabin. After letting my secretary know that I would be working remotely for the next week, I got into my truck and was on my way.
