9 “Thank you, again – for saving my life,” Ross said. A wave of warmth swept through her at Ross’s murmured admission. Shadows cast by the trees danced across his face. They stood near the edge of the forest. The rock-strewn bank had turned to dirt. They would be entering the forest again. She had stopped, needing time to gather her wits about her and take a moment to appreciate that they were still alive.
