Joe and Amelia raced toward the center of the village. They reached it as the group involved in the meeting arrived. Abigail was walking with a distraught woman, cradling an infant. Another woman took over, attempting to comfort the mother so Abigail could address the gathering crowd there to help search.
"Little Miranda has gone missing," Abigail announced. "Her mother had put her down for a nap, and she appeared to be asleep. Her mother left the room to change the baby, and by the time she returned, Miranda was gone. We all know she has a tendency to sneak off to play near the stream, so it is imperative that we find her quickly."
