Rainah’s POV
Lavender’s blue, dilly dilly
Lavender’s green
When I am king, dilly dilly
You shall be queen:
Who told you so, dilly dilly
Who told you so?
‘Twas my own heart, dilly dilly
That told me so...
My twelve-year-old self smiled, dancing on her own...
Call up your men, dilly dilly
Set them to work
Some to the plough, dilly dilly
Some to the fork
Some to make hay, dilly dilly
Some to cut corn
While you and I, dilly dilly
Keep ourselves warm.
And that’s when I felt him—his arms encircling my waist from behind.
I smiled, feeling the familiar warmth transferring from his body to mine.
Lavender’s green, dilly dilly
Lavender’s blue
If you love me, dilly dilly
I will love you...
I turned around and looked up at his face, meeting a familiar pair of eyes gazing back at me—eyes filled with so much warmth and love.
My knight...
I was smiling ear to ear—until that smile slowly faded. His younger face was changing... aging. Becoming more mature. I was mesmerized by his beauty: that sharp jaw dusted with stubble, lips that seemed to call me closer, that pointed nose, and those same familiar eyes...
“Ms. Rainah, how are you feeling right now?”
Wait... what?
Isn’t that Arthur Charles Delacruz standing in front of me?
How did my knight turn into him?
“Rain baby, wake up,” I heard my mother’s sweet voice and slowly opened my eyes. I looked around, realizing I wasn’t in my bedroom. My mom was sitting on a chair next to my bed, gently caressing my head.
“Did you sleep well, sweetie?” she asked lovingly. I nodded and rubbed my eyes with the back of my palm. As I tried to sit up, she eagerly placed a fluffy pillow behind me.
That’s when I noticed the soft music playing in the background.
It was the same song from my dream.
Let’s be honest—it was a weird dream. But it felt... real.
Still, why is this song playing in a hospital? And not just any song—one of my childhood favorites.
“Mommy, where’s this music coming from?” I asked, visibly confused.
“I don’t know. A nurse came in early this morning and played it on the speakers. Said it would help heal your wounds faster. Strange…” she replied, adjusting the blanket over my wounded leg.
Maybe rich patients enjoy these little luxuries in their cabins.
Thinking about that reminded me—we’ll have to pay the bill.
And I know this place isn’t cheap. My entire savings might vanish in one go.
“Mommy, where’s Dad?” I realized I hadn’t seen him since waking up.
“He went to check on the bills, honey. The nurse said you’ll be discharged today,” she said with a polite smile—but I could sense the worry beneath it.
They’ve already done so much for me. They gave me the perfect family, sent me to the best university they could afford. And here I am... causing more trouble every day.
Tears escaped without my notice, flowing freely down my cheeks.
Call me a crybaby if you want—I don’t care.
“Hey, what’s wrong, baby? Is your leg hurting?” Mommy asked, concerned.
“Mommy... I never wanted to trouble Dad,” I whispered, barely audible.
She sat in front of me on the bed. I stared at my hands resting on my lap as she gently wiped my tears.
“And who told you that you wanted to trouble your dad, hmm?” she asked softly.
I said nothing.
They would never blame me—because they love me.
But I know what this will cost us. I don’t know the exact amount, but I have a fair idea.
When I didn’t respond, she sighed and patted my head like I was her little kitten.
“Rainy, you have no idea what you mean to us. You’re our angel, do you know that? It was you who made me fall in love with your dad all over again. Remember that? Nothing matters to us more than your safety and health.”
She kissed my forehead.
“Mommy and Daddy love you more than anything, okay? So stop worrying about things that don’t matter.”
Unable to hold it in any longer, I hugged her tightly.
She was startled at first, but then I felt her wrap her arms around me.
“I love you too, Mommy,” I whispered into her shoulder.
Just then, the sound of the door opening made us part from our embrace. We both turned toward it.
Dad and the lady doctor from yesterday walked in, smiling and chatting.
I noticed Mommy stiffen a bit. When I looked at her face—I saw jealousy.
Huh?
Behind them entered a man in his twenties. Clearly not a hospital staff.
The brown suit on his lean body gave him a corporate look.
The glasses on his nose hid a pair of brown eyes, making him appear more... geeky.
As a whole, he looked kinda cute.
“Ms. Garcia, good morning! How are you feeling today?” the doctor asked while checking my leg bandages.
“Good morning, Doctor. I’m feeling fine now. Thank you,” I replied politely.
Dad walked over and stood beside Mom, completely unaware of her scowl.
He kissed her cheek—and her face instantly turned tomato red.
Cute.
“Rain dear, meet Mr. Lopez. He’s Mr. Delacruz’s secretary,” Dad introduced him.
His cheeks turned pink as he nodded at me.
I smiled politely.
“Good morning, Ms. Garcia. Mr. Delacruz couldn’t be here, but he sends his warm regards,” he said, handing me a white lily tied with baby pink ribbons. A tiny pink note dangled from one ribbon, with ‘Get well soon, Rainah’ written in cursive.
I don’t know why, but that simple gesture made my heart swell with happiness.
I took it and sniffed. I love white lilies.
Coincidence?
“Thank you, Mr. Lopez,” I said.
“Please, call me Mark. And no need to thank me. We should be the ones thanking you.
If it weren’t for you yesterday, our boss might have been seriously injured. We’re truly grateful.” He bowed, and I smiled shyly, not knowing what to say.
Just then, the doctor cleared her throat and all eyes turned to her.
“Ms. Rainah, you’ll need to take a sponge bath before I change your bandages. I’ll return in an hour so you can have privacy. A nurse will assist you shortly—”
“Doctor, can I please take a shower?” I cut her off, pleadingly.
I just didn’t feel clean, and a proper shower would refresh me.
She sighed, then looked at Mark.
“You can take a bubble bath—but keep your wounded leg out of the water,” she said.
Mark started typing into his phone.
“Bubble bath will be ready in five minutes,” he announced.
My eyes widened in disbelief.
I definitely don’t want him preparing my bath.
“Hey—you don’t have to do that, Mark,” I protested.
“Ms. Garcia, it’s my duty to ensure you’re comfortable. Mr. Delacruz personally assigned me to fulfill all your needs today. Please give me five minutes,” he replied, then exited the room, phone to his ear.
Wait. What?
Mr. Delacruz assigned him?
To fulfill all my demands?
Why?
“I’ll be back in an hour,” the doctor said, giving me a knowing look before leaving.
“That’s what I was about to tell you,” Dad finally spoke again.
“We bumped into Mark this morning. He told me that Mr. Arthur sent him here to look after you. And not just that—he also said all the hospital expenses have already been paid. It’s his way of thanking you for saving his life.”
I gasped.
Why did he have to be so generous?
He doesn’t know what all this is doing to me...
First, those familiar eyes. Then, that warmth.
Now... this.
Could it be him?
No. No, Rainah. Don’t be foolish.
Yes, my knight came from a rich family—but thinking he’s Arthur? That’s absurd.
“Oh, that’s good to know,” Mommy said, patting my head.
I gave her a small smile.
I’ll try to thank him in person...
If I ever get the chance.
He’s a busy man.
But...
I do want to meet him again.
I really do.
Rainaaahhh what are you even thinking?
He’s way out of your league. He probably did this just to be polite.
You saved him, so he helped you. That’s it.
It’s no big deal for someone like him to spend a few bucks.
He’ll forget you soon.
That thought stung more than it should’ve.
Knock! Knock!
We turned toward the door. Mark peeked in.
“Ms. Garcia, the bubble bath is ready,” he said with a bow.
Guess I’ll have to get used to this—at least for today.
Dad lifted me and placed me in the wheelchair. Mommy pushed me toward the bathroom.
Woah...
This is NOT just a bathroom.
It was huge. Big enough to play football—if not for the bandages.
It looked like something out of Antilia itself.
Sherle Wagner fixtures. I knew them. Wealthy people loved them.
Thanks to Lucy and her obsession with the rich, I recognized everything.
In the center stood a massive tub, lavender bubbles frothing at the edges.
Lavender petals scattered over the surface.
Coincidence?
Now I seriously doubt that.
Me and Mommy exchanged a look and shook our heads.
Looks like I get to enjoy luxury—just for today.
Mom helped me undress and ease into the tub, carefully keeping my injured leg out of the water.
The moment my back touched the warm tiles...
Every muscle in my body relaxed.
This—this was heaven.
