v> "What do you mean they all knew about us?" Becca felt like her head was about to explode, she
was feeling too many things at the same time and all her emotions were struggling to top each
other "it's no wonder why they were all so friendly earlier!" Ruelle was struggling with a brush to
her hair but she seemed really pleased. Becca had stolen the interruption from Ruelle earlier
and made herself really small, falling to the background and watched everyone fuse over her
sister, they all called her by her name, they were not Identical twins but for people who were just
meeting them, they should have been a little confused, even her Mother mixed their names
sometimes "Becca, they'll hold a meeting soon and everything will be explained to you, I do not
know everything!" she needed her to stop talking to her in riddles "i don't understand Mum! were
you in contact with them this entire time?" why would she keep them away then "Becca please,
take a bath and come down for dinner, you still haven't met your Grandmother!" Becca felt
nauseous, she turned her back to her mother and fled the room. She knew she should have
stumbled, she was jumping over rocks and running through bushes knee high but she was not
falling or losing balance, her legs seem to know where they were headed too and she soon
burst into a river bank where her feets slowed and she collapsed onto sand "who is that?" she
saw a figure approaching and sat upright ready to bolt again "don't be frightened, I’m only a
Boy" she relaxed, his face just came into light and she Immediately knew he wouldn't hurt her,
he looked kind.
Becca moved her legs in front of her and let out her weariness, for a few seconds she forgot the
Boy had walked up to her and was now seating beside her, she knew she'd thrown her Mother
in another panic state and whatever good image her new Family had of her would vanish, she
had behaved recklessly by running away "why are you out here by yourself at this hour? thewoods are not very safe" she did not know how to respond,it was strange because she
commanded words well and she knew she was quick witted "i ran away from home" it sounded
stupid and she regretted saying it immediately "this most be your first time!" there was
amusement in his voice "don't laugh at me!" he laughed a little more "I'm sorry but where we are
at, you'll be found in no time and i suppose you do not want to be discovered" she stood feeling
a lot more stupid but also determined to trace her way back to her Mother and call for that
meeting sooner than any of her strange acting Family members expected "Hey i did not mean to
offend you miss" he was not her problem and he should know it "Becca, my name is Becca and
i appreciate your company" more than appreciation, she enjoyed his company, she felt
incredibly relaxed with him around and she trusted him completely with her safety "i think you're
great company and I'd like to now you more but right now i must get back to my family and get
my questions answered" he sprang up and looked into her face, it was dark and the features of
his face was lost to her but she felt nervous and looked away from his face "you've a beautiful
name" her cheeks felt hot "You're not from here Becca" she looked at him sharply "don't panic,
ours is a small town and a face like yours will be hard to miss" she needed to get away from
him, He was making her forget she had problems "my name is Bard, short for Bardulf" she
wondered if she should mention she had a full name too "it's nice to meet you Bard but i Must
get home" she knew she would be looked for and she'd hate to be discovered with a Boy after
throwing a fit "i will walk, you know be your proctetor" she smiled inspite of herself "
"indeed! you would scare off a firefly at least!" she turned back towards where she had ran
past and froze, the trees and tall grasses looked back defiantly, totally unruffled like she had not
just run through them "you do not know your way back do you?" he must have seen her
hesitation "just tell me where you are headed and i will lead the way" she said nothing and
continued to stare at the moving trees "you do not know that either, you're really new to town"
she began to walk to the trees determined to find her way through that unfamiliar darkness, why
was she not found yet anyways, was no one looking for her "slow down, there's no path where
you're headed' she felt Bard's arm on her hand and froze, it had only been for a moment but that
hand had sent a little tickle through her "i came through here" she could barely hear herself,
Bard forced a cough "you must have ran, your home should be nearby" she followed him
through a little clearing in the bushes "which Family is Yours?" he said he knew the entire towns
people and he could easily locate her home with just a name "I can give you my Father's name
but he's been dead a long time and away from this town even longer" she did not know the
Family name but Bard insisted to hear it "Fridolf" she said it in a whisper as though she was
back in the hallway where the Pictureof her Father hung "The Fridolfs?" Bard's voice came out
in a whisper too "there's only one Family with the name around here!" He told her the Fridolfs
were a respected family "not everyone likes them but i think the people who don't like them just
fear them!" why would anyone be scared of a Family that were all chattery " I do not think you
know my family" he shrugged and quickened his pace "i should get you home" She was forced
to silence as her guide fell silent too, He seemed to be in haste all of a sudden but he was right
about her home, there was a little crowd in front of the house when Bard pointed, she
recognized her mother right away and turned to say thank you to Bard but he had faded with thedarkness. She walked towards the little crowd with a serious look on her face, she was not
going to let anyone scold her, they all sat here and waited on her return like she could never
really run away “they don’t look after their own in this Family?”.
