The Dinner Pt 2

“You’re annoyed right now. You don’t want to be here. You do find me attractive. You’re curious about a lot of things. You feel guilty about something-” “Okay okay okay!” I just wanted him to stop he clearly knew too much about me. “Sorry, it’s not that I don’t want to be here, it’s just that-” “You don’t want to be here though.” He looked down at his plate unable to bring himself to take another fork of the weird mixture. “I honestly don’t blame you. This isn’t the best salad.” He slid the plate away but figured he needed to be the one to keep talking. I guess he knew I had nothing to say. “Truth be told, I wouldn’t have picked this as our first date. It’s a bit too much like eating at home.” sticking his tongue out again at the plate in front of him and took a long drink from his beer, “Well, it would have been if Claire hadn’t tried to outdo herself.” I laughed along with him while taking a drink of my water. I didn’t want to seem like I was against drinking, but I needed to keep my blood alcohol content to the lowest possible degree. “She tried. She wanted it to be special.” “Yeah, I appreciate the sentiment, but I would have picked something far more private.” He nodded toward the bar and I turned around in enough time to see the entire bar hide their faces from us pretending to go back to their own conversations. “Well, I’m just a visitor, I only know this place and my hotel.” He nodded, “Yeah, I wouldn’t have wanted to eat at that five star french restaurant in the lobby either.” winking he took another drink. “Wait, so you know where I’m staying?” The thought horrified me, if he knew where I was staying did he know anything else I thought was secret? “Of course I do.” Claire came back finally with a large bowl of rolls and another pitcher taking away the one I just noticed was empty. I allowed Claire to leave before I asked quietly, “What else do you know about me?” “Well I know you have a rental car from Jericho, which is about three hours away from Greenwell. And I also know the alpha from Greenwell, we’re pretty close and he told me there’s no kitsune that live there.” Finally the secret was out, he knew every lie I had told to him earlier, “So I think I know less about you than you know about me.” Crossing his arms he pushes the pitcher of beer to me waiting for me to fill up a glass. I decline raising my glass of water to him politely smiling, “Well, I can’t be a completely open book now can I?” “Tell me about yourself, Amalia.” His tone changed, the playful nature was breaking down revealing an unsure serious alpha judging how dangerous I could be for the pack. “Like what?” I feign ignorance, hoping my aloof nature would settle his grumbling wolf. “I guess we can both drop the act then?” He had played me about as much as I played him tonight and we hadn’t even gotten to the main course yet. “While I appreciate the sentiment, I would like us to be honest with each other.” He again offered the beer and I could feel his uncertainty as I once again declined. “I’m not going to tell you where I’m from. You probably know more about my family than I do. So I don’t really know what else you need to know.” Isaac took his leave pouring me a large glass, “Drink. We’ve got all night, unless of course you’ve got somewhere else to be?” He c****d an eyebrow daring me to make a move. I responded pushing the glass back toward him, “No thank you. I don’t like the taste.” Crossing his arms and sat back, “I’m sure it’ll grow on you.” “I doubt it. I’m more of a wine person anyway.” As soon as I said it he snapped his fingers. I wasn’t used to the gesture not being followed by an illusion but this power of making a pack member appear was quite impressive. He pointed to me, “Red or White?” “Rose.” I crossed my arms smirking. “You heard the lady, Rose, two bottles, one glass.” He smirked back wiggling his eyebrow. So this game we were starting to play was getting interesting. I checked my watch, noticing the time was already ten thirty. I was slightly behind schedule, but at the same time was relieved things hadn’t gotten physical. When the bottles came to the table he opened one quickly pouring me a glass. Now there was no reason I wasn’t drinking. “Thanks.” I took the glass tossing a fake smile before taking a small sip. It wasn’t the best a bit sour, but what else could I have expected from this kind of place. Isaac started to relax after I took my first drink and settled back lounging with his arm sprawled out on the back of the bench. I took note of the muscles through his shirt calling me in. It was a reflex of the drink on my lips that caused me to lick them at the most inappropriate time. Isaac took note and couldn’t stop himself from smiling, “I don’t need the bond to see that desire on your face.” Using the glass to hide myself as best I could I recoiled trying to make myself smaller, “How about instead we just talk about what we like to do for fun.” The question sparked an expression in Isaac’s face that lit up like a full moon. “Care to share with me what is so captivating?” I pressed him with a genuine desire to learn what made him so happy just thinking about it. “Well, I love going on late night runs in the forest.” “Oh really? Tell me more.” I leaned in picturing him with the wind in his hair. “Well, when the moons full enough to light up the sky you don’t even need to worry about your footing. The crisp air biting at your nose. There’s no better feeling than when you’re out enjoying the night just you and the moon. It gets my blood pumping-” He stopped suddenly looking at my intrigue. “What about you?” I shook my head coming back to reality. “It’s been years since I have been running. I kind of just like to cozy up at night in front of my fireplace.” As much wonderment as Isaac had put into his experience I was kind of sad I couldn’t share the same feeling. There was nothing I could think of that sparked so much joy in my eyes. “Let’s go running then.” Luckily Claire’s timing was perfect. Before I could accidentally accept his offer she placed two large pies in front of us. “Enjoy.” She took notice of my two bottles and looked at me thinking I was surely not going to put them both away. “But go easy on the wine.” Tossing us both a thumbs up she dismissed everyone who was struggling to keep up with our conversations. Isaac also tossed them a warning and they all obeyed once again pretending there was something else more important than us. “Sorry about them.” I shook my head, “No no it’s fine. They don’t get to see this side of their alpha much I guess.” “You’re right.” He was struggling to control himself as his saliva pooled in his mouth. I could tell he was overjoyed with the food selection, but was holding back diving right in. I wanted him to ask me the question again. Looking at him with those icy blue eyes, I felt like I was seeing him for the first time. This young man was trying so hard to impress me and here I was giving him nothing in return. I felt so worried about what my mind was wanting to say. I shut my eyes and blurted out, “I would love to.”
