53 Luther and his brother had talked at length about the Rachel situation, but didn’t solve anything. Les didn’t have so much as a Band-Aid in his medicine cabinet, so while they talked he’d cleaned and bandaged Luther’s finger with the first aid kit from the Sheriff Department’s vehicle. It wasn’t a serious cut, but it bled through the gauze almost as fast as Les could wrap it and ultimately stuck out like a chubby snowman’s digit. Then Luther awkwardly gathered the stray bits of pinwheel candy using a handkerchief so Les could mop the bloody beer slop from his coffee table. Luther placed the candy in a sealed, plastic sandwich bag.
