Elsie's pov
I know I shouldn't even be bearing the thought, but I couldn't afford to ride the school bus home, knowing that other students were going to be in it. It would be self sabotage at this point, I had no money on me to book a ride home, so my only option was for Adrian to ride me home.
I had expected him to tell me off but the manner in which he warned me sternly frightened me. I watched him as he walked away from me, I watched until his back completely disappeared from sight.
"Well that didn't go well..."
I jerked at the sound of the voice, then spun around instantly to see who it was. Ryan was standing right behind me with a smug look on his face.
I clenched my fist in and bit down on lower lip as my heart raced.
"What the hell do you want?" I said in an aggravated tone.
"Keep your voice down. I only came to remind you that we have a session this evening."
"What part of I'm never going to tutor you again, don't you understand?" I shot at him, my eyes blazing with rage.
He tried to move close to me but I stepped back, "Don't try to come close to me. The last thing I want is for anyone to see us together again, ever."
"You don't really mean that, do you?" He asked, his eyes widening.
I couldn’t believe Ryan was here playing the victim. Didn't he understand the gravity of what he had done?
"I don't want you to ever talk to me again. I'm never going to tutor you until you go to the admit to the entire school that I never slept with you." I said and he scoffed at me.
I turned to walk away but he grabbed my hand and pulled me back to him.
"Don't you dare try to touch me!" I let out, yanking my hand away from him.
A wicked smile spread across his face, "You couldn’t avoid me even if you wanted to. My father already spoke with the principal. He's asked that you continue to tutor me, else, he's going to withdraw your scholarship or worse, your admission."
My body froze instantly at his words, my eyes bulged, my pupils almost falling out of their sockets.
"You didn't..." were the only words that escaped my lips in disbelief.
Suddenly, a black jeep pulled into the parking lot. Everyone recognised the jeep to be Ryan's personal ride.
He looked over my shoulder to the car, then his gaze fell back on me.
"My ride is here, Elsie. And you're coming with me. My father is expecting you. If he doesn't see you by the end of today, he's going to call the principal to withdraw your scholarship."
"You...you can’t do that!" I shook my head in disbelief, tears running down my face, "That's not fair, I worked hard for that scholarship, I earned it fair and square. You can’t take it awy from me because I don't want to tutor you!" I screamed at the top of my voice but Ryan didn't flinch.
This was the height of selfishness. I couldn’t believe Ryan would go this length just because he wants me to tutor him after what he'd done.
He ignored me and began walking towards the jeep, he then stopped and turned to face me, "I didn’t want to do this, but my father has threatened to withdraw me from school and cease my allowance if my grades don't pick up."
"So this is about you, you selfish jerk!" I screamed at the top of my voice, not caring who was listening. But the parking lot was almost empty and no one asides the driver in the jeep could me.
"The ball is in your court. Come home with now, if you don't, you lose your scholarship." He said to me calmly.
I never realised how much of a monster, Ryan was until today. He smiled like a creep as he watched me battle with my emotions and thoughts.
My insides were boiling. I wanted to smack that ugly smile from his face.
But it took only a second for the realization to dawn on me. If I didn't go with Ryan and begin tutoring him, I could lose my...scholarship.
My chest constricted at the thought. I stared down at my feet as the tears ran down freely. My head woozy from the realization.
"Time is running out, Elsie. My chauffeur is a very impatient man." Ryan's voice came again. A mix of Irritation and anger swelled in my guts.
This couldn’t be happening to me. I couldn’t let Ryan decide my fate this way. I thought of a way out, I thought deeply on how I was going to get out of this mess but my thoughts were foggy and I couldn’t think straight.
I looked up, wiping the tears from my face. The defeat settled onto my shoulders like a cloak. The smile on his face grew wider because he knew what was coming, he knew that i was going to give in. I couldn’t afford to lose my scholarship, he knew I would do whatever it takes to keep my scholarship.
I struggled to move from where I stood, but my legs seemed rooted to the spot.
"My driver is waiting, Elsie." Ryan called out. I hadn't noticed that he was already at the jeep, standing with the door open...for me.
I sniffed back the tears and took a first step towards defeat. My body didn't feel like it belonged to me anymore. The steps I took were heavy, but I got to the car eventually. I wasn’t giving what I was doing much thought anymore. My brain wasn't registering anything anymore.
"Atta girl." I heard Ryan say, but it didn't feel like he was speaking to me, his words went over my head.
The next thing I hear was the sound of the door closing before the engines of the car came alive.
