Seth was gorgeous.
He had dark brown hair that sat messily on his head. He was very lean in size and like the rest of his family, he too held a don't-mess-with-me stance. He had the same hazel eyes as his relatives, but unlike the rest of them, his had specks of what looked like blue and green. Either way, they caused my heart to melt at the very sight of them.
Seth sat down next to Reese and began to prepare himself for his food. I hadn't even noticed that he was holding a tray on his way over here.
"Where have you been?" Raven questioned narrowing her eyes towards her brother.
He smirked and my heart began to pound, "I was talking to Mason. He said that he might have found one"
Kylan then gasped causing me to jump, "Really? Already? Wait how? When?"
My brows furrowed in confusion.
Reese then began to speak, "Yeah, we haven't even been here for that long. How did he find one so quick?"
Seth shrugged, "I don't know. You know Mason, he's fast and he says that we can go check it out later after school. So you guys in or what?"
Kylan began to nod excitedly, "Oh my gosh! Of course we are. I can't wa-"
Raven cut Kylan off, "Wait, but remember what happened last time?"
"Yeah, I don't feel like leaving again," Reese cooed.
Seth shook his head, "That's why we are checking it out. And besides the incident won't happen again, trust me"
All four of them began to smile and nod acceptingly as I just sat there in utter confusion. Apart of me also felt quite disrespected due to the fact that they hadn't even acknowledged me throughout their whole conversation.
I sighed out loud causing all eyes to immediately go on me.
Even though I wanted to question what they were talking about, I felt like I was somewhat intruding so I just decided to mind my own business.
"Who's this?" He smiled finally noting the fact that I exist.
I shifted uncomfortably as the unfamiliar feeling of my heart wanting to run out of my chest came.
Kylan put a hand to my shoulder, "Oh, this is Jessica Owens. She's in our first period class. She's cool"
Seth put out his hand and smirked, "Sup Owens"
I looked at his hand, taken aback by it, and took it into my own, "Hey Seth"
He looked me over and I caught the normal reaction in his eyes to my kitty ears.
I touched them insecurely.
He noticed and sent a sweet smile my way causing me to then lose myself in the hammering sound of my heart.
"So Owens, are you a new kid too?", He questioned as he continued to eat.
I nodded, "But I came a couple weeks ago. Don't worry, it might be hard now, but you guys will make friends."
Seth chuckled a husky one along with the rest of them.
Raven bit down on her cookie, "I don't think we'll be making any friends Jesse. Trust me"
"I've made a friend," Seth said.
Kylan rolled her eyes, "Who?"
Seth pointed to me, "Doesn't she count?"
Reese scoffed, "You literally just met."
Seth shoved his brother, "Okay, well then we are friends by association. She talks to Ky and Ray. So she's my friend. Who knows, maybe next week I'll boost you up- I mean if that's okay with you"
I nodded and giggled a little, "Yeah sure"
We then went on the rest of lunch eating while each of them shared stories about how their first day had gone so far.
At least each story had consisted of hate from teachers and violent words from students.
*******
Before entering my house, I noticed that Vince was in his backyard.
I wasn't the type to go onto people's property uninvited, but he wasn't in school that day and when I looked at him, I noticed that he looked a little upset.
Apart of me was worried.
I made my way towards him and saw that he sat on one of the black patio chairs that was placed on the grass. He sat in the chair with his eyes closed and his head resting on it.
He sat in a way that from my view, you could only see his messy black hair.
"Vince?" His eyes snapped open and into my direction. I grabbed a black chair and sat it in front of him placing my backpack alongside me.
"What are you doing here? You're trespassing" he said blinking a few times.
I stared at him.
"I'm here because you weren't at school today" I spoke softly.
"Awe. Did somebody miss me?" He tilted his head and playfully pouted in a cute way that made me want to smile. I resisted the urge and rolled my eyes in false annoyance.
Maybe I did miss him a little.
"No. I just wanted to know and as a friend, I'm allowed to ask" I said shrugging.
He stared into my eyes, "Friend? We are not friends"
I felt a small pang in my chest, but ignored it, "Yes we are"
His brows furrowed, "Excuse me?"
"You may not be my friend, but I'm your friend and like I said, as your friend I wanted to know" I smiled.
He stifled a chuckle, "Is this how you make friends? By demanding? No wonder you only have like five"
I held my hand to my heart, "That one hurt. Stop being mean to me, we are friends remember?"
He shook his head, "Go away. You're being a pest"
I smiled, "Good. Now why weren't you at school today?"
He rolled his eyes, "Because I didn't want to"
My eyes narrowed, "So you missed a full day of learning and education. Including a day with me, by the way, because you didn't feel like it?"
Vince ran a hand through his hair and rolled his eyes, "Once again, I don't like you. And yes, that's why. Plus, I don't feel like being hated on by every pupil that makes up the high school population. I'd rather be alone at home"
I frowned when I realized the real reason. I could tell that it bothered him the way everyone ignored him because of the big thing he did. I personally don't believe that what he did could have been that bad, I mean everyone deserves a second chance right?
People shouldn't be defined by their mistakes.
"But I would've hung out with you" I said.
He tilted his head allowing his hair to flow to the side, "I'd rather be alone"
"No one likes being alone-"
He cut me off, "I do"
I looked at him, "What did you do?"
I needed to know what was contributing to the anti-social being sitting in front of me.
He looked down, "Excuse me?"
"What did you do? What made everyone hate you?" I spoke once again, "What happened?"
Vince looked into my eyes and my heart began to thud. He was going to tell me and I knew that by the way he was looking at me, but of course something had to switch off in his brain.
He began to get up off the chair, "Where are you going?"
Vince grabbed the black chair and put it back as he motioned for me to get up.
I got up,"I'm going into my house and that's what you need to do"
"Fine, but I better see you in school tomorrow" I said pointing my finger in his direction like a mother telling her son to clean his room.
Vince looked down towards me and smirked, "Now why would I do that?"
I mimicked his smirk, "Because we are friends"
