Chapter one

The beginning A dead body turned up again. Callidora wondered why dead bodies have been turning up out of nowhere in the alley for the past two weeks. It has been very scary that where she passed every morning on her way to school lurked a maniac. She turned her shower off while wiping her fair skin with her white towel. She hated been a reporter in college. It just made her school life more hectic than it should be. After all, nothing ever went well for her after her parent’s death. The readers of her daily reports never cared if it was fabricated or real, they just wanted to read something while they prepared for work. It has been stressful for the past few days, as she had to meet with witnesses around the alley to ask what they knew about the dead bodies that showed up frequently. It annoyed callidora as they always had the same response. ‘’ I swear I can’t remember anything, it’s like my memory has been wiped away” she had no choice than to make the stories up then. It is as if anyone will notice. Even if they did, they will never care. That is how life works. After all, it’s not like she wanted the job. They actually paid her very little but it was enough to cater for her needs. She sighed angrily examining her empty room except for her brown boxes that lay in the corner of the room. She had packed in two weeks ago but because of the nature of her job, she had not been able to put things into place. Anytime she took out a cloth, she would fold it and out it back into her wardrobe. Well, she never had time for anything. All her stuffs were still in their boxes, she did not even have time to give cookies to her neighbour next door who moved in last night. Some people say that he is a college student She released her straight blond hair and let it tumble gracefully to the middle of her back. She was glad she did not have to brush it because it was already so straight and she washed it last night before going to bed. Good thing she inherited it from her father. She placed her slim fingers on her jaw thinking of what to wear. Being a simple girl, she decided to wear back leggings and a tank top that exaggerated her high-perched breasts. Being the type that didn’t like exposing her body, she easily found a white pull over and put it on. She shrugged on the fact that some people will kill for her body yet she was covering it up. She slipped her black converse on and applied little makeup. A little bit of mascara and eyeliner. After applying little pink gloss, which was almost the same shade as her lips, and checking the time, she starts walking slowly to school seeing that she had plenty of time. The weather was chilly and she was glad that she wore a good outfit. By the time she got to school, few students were already in school. Some boys were crowded in a corner dancing while the others practiced playing basketball. Callidora scrunched her nose in disgusts as she saw a boy and a girl making out in a corner. ‘’get a room, its still too early’’ she m uttered to herself while walking ahead and scanning the school for her best friend. She spotted Eva jogging excitedly towards her with a huge grin plastered on her face. She was wearing a red mini polka dot skirt and a black crop top along with a brown boot. “Hey’’ she greeted her bold red lips stretching into a smile. Callidora smiled that her best friend. Ever since callidora could speak, she had known Eva. She didn’t want to move to California but because of Eva who attended west wood college, she wanted to give it a try. Eva’s brown and wavy hair was released into curls on her shoulder. She had big blue eyes that always wanted to sparkle and be smiling. She always had the best makeup done. She was a bubbly girl that fancied expensive clothes, bags and shoes. “Have you heard the news’’ Eva said interlocking their hands and leading them to the theatre and arts department. Callidora smiled to herself knowing that her friend always had one news or the other. It was either about handsome boys or popular girls. ‘’there is a new boy, a handsome one at that and I think he’s in our department’’ she coos smiling so much that her lips could tear. Yep she was right. Boys. She was never interested in them. She was far too busy for that. Eva was the cool and friendly type that knew all about the latest trends and people, callidora could not help but wonder how they never had any problems. ‘’Eva, you know I’m far too busy for that” she says smiling at her. “You are too uptight; you need to loosen up’’ as they kept on walking. ‘’you could have a chance with him you know’’ Eva said throwing a pitiful glance at her hardworking friend who had no time for boys. Callidora only let out a stifled laugh. ‘’I would have looked at pretty boys if I shouldn’t be writing about the dead body that turned up this morning’’ callidora said letting out a huge sigh hoping her friend will let her be. ‘’another one?’’ Eva asks her eyes widening like saucers. ‘’another one” callidora declares. ‘’they should close school for the main time or better still come stay with me, it won’t hurt besides, my parents are hardly around” Eva said concerned as they came to the front of the class. ‘’no, it’s fine. I can cope’’ she assures Eva and they enter inside the classroom which was more like a hall because the students were more than a hundred. Callidora shrugged. She wished they could close school down for a while to give her time to work and study at the same time but was sure they wouldn’t. She takes a seat on the second role while letting Eva taking her favourite seat on the third role. Callidora said a quick hello to people sitting beside her before taking out her reading glasses that always reminded her of harry porter and settled it on the bridge of her nose giving her a nerdier look. She checks her wristwatch and finds out that she had enough time before the lecturer comes in. she brings out her apple laptop and starts typing the headline for her news. Few minutes later, the lecturer, a short, bald man with a bulging walks into the class. Callidora bends to keep her laptop in her bag and when she looks back up, she is awed by what she sees. Beside Mr Moses stood a Greek god that looked like he stepped out of the magazine. He had brown ruffled hair and defined cheekbones that made callidora wondered if he was a model. He had crystal shiny eyes that looked like they were lined and she could not help staring at them. And full red lips. Oh those lips, she felt embarrassed for fantasizing of how they would feel against hers. Callidora had to force her mouth close and clean her jaw hoping she was not drooling. He looked like a 6’4 with broad shoulders. He wore a black ripped jean that emphasized his athletic legs and a black top with a black leather jacket over it. He looked like the definition of a bad boy. ‘’told you he was jaw dropping gorgeous’’ Eva whispered behind her. She knew he was handsome but never knew he would be this…..beautiful. She could not help but giggle when Mr Moses asked him to make a short intro of himself. This was not high school. It was probably for people not to call him new boy or what not. ‘’my name is clemente Andrews, a transfer student from New York’’ he said in a deep masculine voice. Callidora felt her heart lurch immediately she heard his voice. It made her blood turn hot and suddenly felt nervous. ‘’please take a sit” Mr Moses said and turned to take the roll call. Callidora stared at him. If she did not know any better, she would say he was walking towards her!
