Chapter 4: The Vision

1517 Words
Damien’s mansion loomed like a dark fortress in the heart of the forest, its ancient stone walls cloaked in ivy, whispering of secrets long kept hidden. Ruby stared in awe as they approached, her heart pounding in her chest. She’d never seen such grandeur, such raw, intimidating beauty. It was a world away from the small, dilapidated house she had grown up in, the kind of place she’d only seen in movies. But this was real, and it was terrifying. The car came to a halt in front of the grand entrance, and Ruby hesitated, glancing at Damien. His face was unreadable, but there was a tension in his jaw, a tightness in his shoulders. As if he, too, felt the weight of what lay ahead. “This is your home?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. “For now,” Damien replied, his tone neutral, but Ruby sensed the layers of meaning beneath his words. They stepped out of the car, and the mansion’s massive doors swung open with a creak. Inside, the air was warm, almost stifling, and the scent of woodsmoke and something sweet lingered. Ruby followed Damien through the foyer, her eyes wide as she took in the marble floors, the grand staircase, the glittering chandelier overhead. Everything was so polished, so perfect—so unlike the chaotic, crumbling life she had known. He led her upstairs, the silence between them thick with unspoken words. Ruby’s mind raced, trying to make sense of everything. How had she ended up here, in this strange, beautiful place with a man who was both terrifying and intoxicating? They reached a door at the end of the hallway, and Damien pushed it open, revealing a bedroom that took Ruby’s breath away. The bed was massive, draped in rich, dark fabrics that looked as soft as they were expensive. “You can stay here tonight,” Damien said, his voice softer now, almost gentle. “Rest. You’re safe here.” Safe. The word echoed in Ruby’s mind, and she wanted to believe it. She wanted to believe that this strange, powerful man could keep her safe, that she could trust him. But there was something about him, something that made her pulse quicken, made her heart race with both fear and something else—something she didn’t dare name. Damien lingered in the doorway, his eyes dark and unreadable as he watched her. Ruby’s breath caught in her throat as their gazes locked, the air between them crackling with a tension that was both thrilling and terrifying. Ruby nodded, stepping inside as Damien closed the door behind them. The silence that followed was thick with tension, an unspoken understanding passing between them. Ruby turned to face him, her pulse quickening as their eyes met. There was something in his gaze—an intensity, a hunger—that both thrilled and terrified her. “Damien…” she began, but her voice faltered. She didn’t know what to say, how to express the confusion and fear swirling inside her. Damien crossed the room in a few long strides, his presence overwhelming. He reached out, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, his touch sending a shiver down her spine. “You’ve been through a lot tonight,” he said, his voice low and rough. His words were meant to reassure her, but the fire in his eyes, the way he looked at her as if she was the only thing that mattered, made her feel anything but safe. It made her feel alive, every nerve ending tingling with anticipation. Ruby’s breath hitched as Damien’s hand slid down her arm, his touch light but electrifying. He took a step closer, his body heat enveloping her, and she felt a strange pull—a magnetic force drawing her toward him. “Ruby,” he murmured, his voice barely more than a whisper. “Do you trust me?” The question hung in the air, heavy and loaded. Ruby swallowed hard, her heart racing as she looked up at him. She didn’t trust easily—her life had taught her to be wary, to keep her guard up. But something about Damien made her want to let that guard down, to let him in. “Yes,” she whispered, almost surprising herself with the honesty in her voice. A slow, almost predatory smile spread across Damien’s lips, and he closed the distance between them in an instant, his hand cupping her cheek as his lips claimed hers. The kiss was soft at first, almost tender, but it quickly deepened, fueled by a passion that made Ruby’s knees weak. Damien’s other hand slipped around her waist, pulling her closer, and Ruby found herself melting into him, her hands clutching at his shirt as if it was the only thing anchoring her to reality. The sensation of his lips on hers, his body pressed against hers, was intoxicating, drowning out all the fear and uncertainty that had plagued her. He broke the kiss only to trail his lips down her jawline, his breath hot against her skin. Ruby gasped as he nipped at her neck, a mix of pleasure and anticipation coursing through her. “Tell me if you want me to stop,” Damien whispered against her ear, his voice low and rough, sending shivers down her spine. Ruby’s breath hitched, her mind a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. She’d never been in a situation like this before, never felt the way Damien was making her feel. Part of her was scared—scared of what she didn’t know, of what was happening between them—but another part of her was curious, drawn to him in a way she couldn’t explain. “I… I don’t know,” she admitted, her voice trembling. “I’ve never…” Damien pulled back slightly, his eyes searching hers, and Ruby saw the concern in his gaze, the way he was holding himself back. “It’s okay,” he said softly. “We don’t have to do anything you’re not comfortable with.” Ruby bit her lip, her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted this—wanted him—but the fear of the unknown, of doing something wrong, held her back. “I… I trust you,” she finally whispered, her voice barely audible. “Just… be gentle.” A low growl rumbled in Damien’s chest, and he leaned in, capturing her lips in another searing kiss. This time, there was no hesitation, no holding back. His hands roamed over her body, sliding under her shirt to explore the soft skin beneath. Ruby shivered at his touch, the sensation both foreign and exhilarating. “Do you like this?” Damien murmured against her lips, his hand sliding up her thigh, his fingers teasing the sensitive skin just below her waistband. Ruby moaned softly, her body arching into his touch, and Damien took that as his answer. He slid his hand higher, his fingers finding their way under her clothes, exploring places that had never been touched before. Ruby gasped at the sensation, her breath coming in short, ragged bursts as pleasure flooded her senses. “Is this okay?” Damien asked, his voice husky with desire. “Yes,” Ruby breathed, her eyes fluttering shut as she surrendered to the overwhelming sensations coursing through her body. Damien’s fingers moved with expert precision, teasing and exploring, coaxing moans of pleasure from Ruby’s lips. She could feel the tension building inside her, a tight coil of pleasure winding tighter and tighter with each stroke of his fingers. It was almost too much, too intense, and yet she craved more. “Does this feel good?” Damien’s voice was a low, seductive growl as he continued to pleasure her, his eyes locked on her face, watching every reaction, every twitch of her body. “Yes… Oh, God, yes,” Ruby moaned, her head falling back as waves of pleasure washed over her. She had never felt anything like this before, had never known that her body could feel such exquisite pleasure. It was overwhelming, intoxicating, and she was quickly losing herself in the sensation. Just as Ruby felt herself nearing the edge, her entire body trembling with anticipation, something changed. The warmth and pleasure that had been flooding her senses suddenly receded, replaced by a cold, creeping dread that wrapped itself around her like a vise. Her eyes flew open, and the world around her shifted, blurring and distorting as the room seemed to melt away. She was no longer in Damien’s arms—she was somewhere else, somewhere dark and cold. The air was thick with the scent of blood, and she could hear the faint sound of a woman’s scream—a scream that chilled her to the bone. Panic seized her, and she pushed Damien away with a sudden force, her body trembling with fear as she stumbled back, her heart racing in her chest. Damien stared at her, confusion and concern etched on his face. “Ruby, what’s wrong? What happened?”
