Ambush

2600 Words
We all sat down at the table similar to the one we met in the first time. The walls were like windows with a slight haze to them but it was sound proof. I sat at the head of the table and had Jenna to my right and the rest sat around me. The other Hunters in the room also sat with us, each greeting me and slightly bowing before facing forward. Just in that instant, a woman with thick wavy brown hair that reached the middle of her back and flowed like a waterfall walked in. She had a black long sleeve on with black pants on. She was about my height and had beautiful features. Her body was curvy enough to make any woman feel a twitch of jealously. Her cheek bones were so sharp yet so delicate looking that she looked like she stepped out of a magazine. Yet, the one thing that gave any indicator that she had deadly intentions were her eyes. They were a deep brown that almost looked black and they had no emotion to them. Right at that moment, our eyes locked. I narrowed my eyes and projected as much of a royal presence as possible. One that rang authority and confidence. I bowed to no one, and she was about to know her place. Our stare down lasted another 3 seconds before she gave in and bowed. "Greetings, your majesty," she looked back up and her eyes stayed on the table instead of me," I apologize if I kept you waiting. My name is Jade Chavez and I am the leader of the team that will be accompanying you to the ambush tonight." Her voice was as monotone as a robot and her movements the same. I wonder what the deal is with this girl. I don't trust her. I nodded my head in acknowledgement and gave her a slight smile. "Hello Jade, from my understanding, you already have a plan for the warehouse tonight. Did I hear correctly?" I asked. "Yes you did Princess," she answered immediately and pointed to the paper on the table, "in front of you are print outs of the warehouse. Our resources tell us that they will enter the warehouse around 8pm from the North side. Once inside, we will each take a exit point and go in and shoot. Our weapons are loaded with silver tops to ensure the killing of the werewolves. We only expect no more than 10 to show up with Alpha Jayce so it should be relatively easy and quick." Jade started to pace back and forth waiting for an answer or objection. The smug look on her face told me that it didn't happen often. "Hold up," Jenna held her hand up and looked at me quickly then back to the front, " which team goes in where?" Jade looked at her and spoke without enthusiasm. "Your elite team will take the North side of the building. My team will be split in two and take the East and South entrances." I narrowed my eyes and my eye brows furrowed. "So in other words, we will be taking the full force of this operation and doing most of the work. Are you serious? I know our team is kick ass but this guy is supposed to be the strongest Alpha possible. I think we need to rethink this." Luckily Jenna said everything that I wanted to say but in her own words. Yes they were a bit, undiplomatic, but it got the point across. I stayed silent and looked at Shelby, Axel and Ron. They all looked bored but a bit annoyed. It seems that Jenna's point had some reasoning behind it but they didn't have the willpower to speak. "I say that we go in through the East and South entrances and leave our sharp shooters in the North. That way if they try to escape, they can be taken out as they scurry out the way they came in." Jenna took a small drink of her already cold coffee. She smiled at Jade with a look that dared defiance. Jade looked at me with a confused look. I'm assuming because I didn't put Jenna in her "place" for speaking her mind as my second in command.  "I think this is a great plan." I said as smoothly as possible while staring back at Jade. Her jaw clenched and hands formed into fists that stayed at her side while she stayed silent. "We should arrive to this location at 7pm to avoid any guards that may arrive a bit early. We will sync up the ear pieces before we leave. My team will take the East side and yours the South." I looked around at Jade's team. "Sharp shooters, you will take the North entrance about 40 yards from the front so they can't smell you. Shoot anyone that runs out." The feeling in the room felt like it was on edge. Jade was standing as still as possible that it didn't seem that she was breathing. At this point her options were to defy her princess and challenge her or accept the new plan because of the flaw in her own. She let out a long, drawn out breath and bowed again. "I accept your plan Princess Maxine. Now if you excuse me, I need to let my team at the warehouse know of the change. Please excuse me." And just like that, she walked out. Jade's team stood up as well and bowed in our direction and left. Which just left us in the room. "Yo, did any of you get the feeling that we were supposed to be wolf bait?" Shelby asked as soon as the door clicked. So they all thought the same. Something didn't feel right about all of this. It all seemed too strange and desperate. "Shel, we all thought the same thing. Let's just all stick together during this mission and not split up. I have a feeling something else is going to happen." Axel said in a low voice. "Everyone, go back to your rooms and rest. We will meet in my room at 6pm and gear to leave at 6:15pm. Try not to over think, we will make it out of here alive and well. I won't let anything happen to you all." I sighed and walked to the door. I held it open for them as they all lined up and walked out the door to their rooms. Now to wait around until 6. Great. I had a feeling that time was going to move slowly. *KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK* I checked my watch and it was 6pm on the dot. I opened my door and let them in. They had tactical gear on and weapons loaded on their hips and thighs. Ranging from knifes to silver stakes. I was dressed the same. Still rockin' the Tomb Raider outfit that Jenna put me in, we all walked to the garage. Jade's team was rushing around  their suburban's loading stuff into the back. It made me feel grateful that we already had everything packed. I looked at Ron who was on the phone and as if he read my mind he held up a finger without even looking up. "Already loading the GPS coordinates Princess." He walked to the driver seat to connect the Bluetooth. I then looked at Shelby and Axel who were already walking to the back of the car. "We know, we know. Double check inventory." Axel laughed. I then turned to Jenna who was staring back at me with sad eyes. "Why the f**k am I always in charge of snacks?" I laughed at her pouty face. "Because you lost the wager with Ron and now you're on snack duty. Axel and Shelby will take apple slices and cran-apple juice. Ron will take a soda with grapes and I'll take a banana and water." She stared back at me and pouted. I held up my hands, "A deals a deal Jen. 2 more missions then snack duty is back on the table." She ran back inside to grab our stuff. I looked over at Jade's team one more time. They seemed about done but Jade was nowhere in sight. But then I glanced up into the window on the second floor and saw her arguing with someone on the phone. She looked frustrated but at the same time worried. Then she saw me looking at her. She completely froze then closed the curtains. Well, that was weird. I stayed looking for a few more seconds then before I knew it Jenna was back with our food and Jade a few seconds behind her. She kept her eyes to the ground and jumped into the passenger side of the car. I stayed looking at the car for a split second longer then jumped into our car. Jenna handed out snacks and the GPS voice came to life. Okay, let get this over with. The car zoomed in and out of traffic. Each suburban a few car lanes behind us to not arouse suspicion from random human civilians. Then as we got a close to the pier, our GPS voice cut off. The sun was starting to get closer to the horizon. Due to traffic, we arrived a bit later than anticipated but Jade's team was no where to be seen. This made the situation a bit harder because at any time the enemy could be arriving and we wouldn't be ready. We jumped out of the car and walked to the back. Suddenly our ear pieces came heard a small beeping sound then Jade's voice came to light. "Princess. Our caravan ran into a situation. One of the Suburban's was hit by a civilian car and I have to stay to address the weapons in the car to the police. We have one of our insiders of the police department headed to our location to defuse everything but you may be on your own for this mission. I apologize deeply." Then the communication turned off.  My stomach took a deep dive into oblivion and refused to resurface. My body felt cold and empty from the despair that I felt. I looked at everyone who's faces surely matched my own. Fear. We came into this mission with the false sense of security that we would have a back up team to assist us with this mission just to find out that we will be on our own. Who could we call at this time? Our Raine Hunters? They were hours away. The Verna Hunters? Now tied up in a convenient car crash. It was too late to start a new plan. We only had tonight to accomplish our task. That was it. We couldn't postpone our mission, otherwise we had a guarantee that we could never return home. I looked at the time and it was now 7:45pm. We had no choice but to go in ourselves. Shelby was pacing back and forth while Ron and Axel were staring out into the water where a flock of seagulls were resting on the calm ocean. Jenna was standing to my side trying to massage her temples.  "I'm going in guys." My voice broke the trance that everyone was in. All you could hear as the sound of the ocean hitting the wooden pier and the boats that were docked in it. "You all don't have to go with me. I completely understand that this is now not what you signed up for. But, if you decide to go with me, I promise to fight as hard as I can to keep you all alive and complete the mission." I stared at the sun that was almost down. The sky was a beautiful red that faded to purple. The stars showing up in the darkened parts of the sky. The moon coming up as well. Please, please give me strength tonight. I need to protect my friends. I need to take them home. I found it odd that I was praying to the moon but it was comforting at the same time.  "We're all coming with you Princess. We will fight with you until our last breath." Axel stated. I smiled and checked my watch again. 7:50pm. "New plan." We formed a small circle." We go in from the East side and ambush them. Take out as many as possible before they phase. Anyone who get a good aim at Jayce, take it. Shout out "retreat" as soon as someone killed him so we can all leave. And please, everyone, stay safe." I said the last part with such sincerity. These people were my family. My friends. I looked at them all as if to memorize their faces one more time. "Okay, lets go. Ear phones off. Guns off safety. Stay aware. I see head lights coming up now." And just like that, the sun set. Leaving us to the mercy of the moonlight. About 3 huge trucks made a line into the warehouse. Once they were inside, I motioned my team to follow me. Each of us had our hand guns ready and drawn to the floor while we made it inside. My heart was racing from the adrenaline. I kept having to push back the waves of dread that kept plaguing my mind. I had to keep my head in the game.  "Perfect, so the merchandise is all here?"  I heard the voice and ducked behind some boxes. My team followed my lead and ducked too. I peaked over the boxes and saw a few men standing around talking to each other. Others were moving things around. Then two men came into my sight. One was about our age and had jet black hair and blue eyes. I recognized him as the Beta from the photos. He looked similar to Jayce except the eyes. Tattoos up his arms and neck, hair combed to the side but messy at the same time. Black jeans and gray shirt that seemed too small but fit him perfectly like it was made just for him. He was rather cute but next to him was my target. My hands felt clammy instantly. Jayce was looking as godly as ever and I couldn't help but stare. My body pulled toward his and I had to defy every instinct my body had to run into his arms and claim his lips as my own. Without noticing, my body was pulling forward and a stacked up box was on the verge of falling over. I pulled my body back instantly but it was too late. The box was slowly tipping over and my body froze.  "Hey man, do you smell that?" Jayce said in a confused voice. His eyes turned a solid black color in a second. The beautiful hazel color was gone. BOOM! The box in front of me fell and hit the ground with booming echo. Jayce's head snapped in my direction and we locked eyes. I just doomed us all. I pulled up my gun and took aim at him. His eyes widened as if in disbelief. Click. My gun jammed. What? No! I tried again and the outcome was the same. "What the f**k is going on!" Ron grunted because had his aim on Jayce too and the gun jammed. Then it hit me. The warehouse was enchanted for this specific reason. That's why this place was so out in the open. No weapons worked in here. We walked into a trap.
