Dave was a renowned artist, known for his unique style and innovative approach to his craft. He was hard at work in his studio, trying to create a new piece for an upcoming exhibition. He was so focused that he barely noticed the hours pass by. He was like a machine, tirelessly working to bring his vision to life, sweat started dropping unto the floor and he knew, he was in his zone completely immersed in his work. But as he neared the end of his work, he started to feel a sense of unease. Something wasn't right - he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He took a step back from his canvas and looked at it with fresh eyes. He put his right hand into the pockets of his grey sweat pants, then he removed a handkerchief and cleaned the sweat that formed on his face, that's when he noticed it- the piece was missing something. It was missing that special something that made his work stand out. It was like a puzzle with a missing piece. He tried to figure out what it was, but he couldn't put his finger on it. He felt a knot of frustration forming in his stomach. He knew he needed to take a break, to clear his head. He went for a walk in the gardens of his mansion, hoping the fresh air would help him figure it out. As Dave walked among the trees and flowers, he started to feel the tension in his body melt away. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, taking in the sweet scent of the flowers. And then, it hit him - he knew what his painting was missing. He rushed back to his studio, his mind swirling with ideas. He picked up his brush and began to paint, his hand moving with a confidence he hadn't felt before. The colors came together like magic, and the painting began to take shape. He finally felt like he had captured the essence of what he wanted to express. He stepped back from the canvas and took a deep breath. He felt satisfied, like he had finally achieved what he had set out to do. He took one last look at his work with his brown eyes, proud of what he had accomplished.
Dave wakes up from a deep sleep. As he opens his eyes, he sees the sun shining in his window. He stretches and yawns, feeling refreshed. He gets up, his hair a bit messy and his clothes are all over the fall. He heads to the bathroom, he thinks about the dream he had. He remembers a vivid painting, one that he was so proud of. But as he tries to remember the details of the painting, they slip away from him. It's like a dream within a dream. He decides to go to his studio to check his easel, just in case the painting was real. He opens the door and steps inside. But instead of a painting, he sees an empty easel. He looks around the studio, but there's no sign of the painting he dreamed of. He's a little confused and disappointed. He sits down on a stool and tries to remember the details of the painting. But no matter how hard he tries, he can't recall them. He wonders if it was all just a figment of his imagination. Or was it something more?
A few days go by, and Dave can't get the painting out of his mind. He starts to question everything about it. Was it real? Was it a message from his subconscious? He starts to notice things around him that remind him of the painting. It's like the painting is haunting him. He starts to question his sanity. He decides to go to the library to see if he can find any information about dreams and paintings. Maybe he'll find some answers there. As Dave enters the library, he feels a wave of deja vu wash over him. He walks down the aisles, searching for a book on dreams. Then, he sees her. It's Jen, she's wearing a red top, black skirt and black boots to match, she's sitting in a corner, reading a book. But something is different about her, probably it's because her hair is at shoulder length or because her blue eyes weren't laughing as they used to. Then he notices that she looks sad, almost lost in thought. He hesitates for a moment, wondering if he should approach her. But then, he takes a deep breath and walks over to her. "Hi Jen," he says, "I haven't seen you around in a while. How have you been?"
Jen looks down at the book in her hands and sighs. "I guess I've been okay and you?" she says.
"I've been okay too, what are you reading?" he asks her.
"It's a book about dreams," she says. "I've been having some strange dreams lately, and I was hoping to find some answers here."
Dave is intrigued. "What kind of strange dreams have you been having?" he asks.
Jen hesitates for a moment, like she's debating whether or not to tell him. But then, she takes a deep breath and begins to tell him about her dreams. She talks about a dark forest, two mysterious people and an old worn down house. As Jen finishes telling him about her dreams, she starts to look a little bit more relaxed, like a weight has been lifted off of her shoulders. "Thank you for listening," she says. "I know it's a lot to take in, but it's been helpful just to talk about it."
"It's no problem," Dave says, "I'm glad I could help. And if you ever want to talk about your dreams again, I'm here for you."
Jen smiles, and for the first time in a while, she feels a sense of hope.
"So, Jen, how's work?" Dave asks.
Jen's smile fades a little. "Well, to be honest, I got fired a few weeks ago," she says. "It's been tough trying to figure out what to do next."
"I can imagine," Dave says, "it must be hard not knowing what to do next."
"Yeah, it's like I'm stuck in limbo," Jen says. "Do you have any ideas for what you might want to do?" Dave asks.
Jen shrugs. "I don't know. I don't even know where to start."
Then, an idea pops into Dave's head.
"You know, Jen," Dave says, "if you're looking for something to do, I could use an assistant. It would be part-time, but it might be a good way to get your feet wet."
Jen's eyes light up. "Really? You'd consider hiring me?" she asks.
"Of course!" Dave says. "You're smart, you're resourceful, and you're creative. I think you'd be a great."
Jen can't help but smile. "Thank you, that's so kind of you to offer," she says. "But I hope you don't mind me talking to my friends about it?"
"That's fine by me." Dave says.
Jen feels a rush of excitement, she says. "I can't thank you enough."
"You haven't said yes though but don't mention it," Dave says. "I'll be happy to have you on board." And with that, Jen feels like she's taken a step in the right direction.
