Julia's pov
I woke up feeling grumpy and extremely exhausted. Yesterday was really strange. I had closed the store at 3 pm and gone back home. The memories of that unfamiliar stranger had kept me from falling asleep. I had stayed up until 5, thinking about him and hoping he was safe before finally dozing off. I had to wake up by 9 for lectures. I had a class at 9:30 and I felt so tired, but I needed to attend it.
This lecturer was unpleasant, and his attendance counted as part of our coursework. I reluctantly put on a hoodie and sweatpants, tied my hair in a ponytail, and walked to class with my laptop. I silently cursed when I saw the lecturer already in class. I quietly found a seat in the back and tried to listen to him while fighting off sleep. The lecture ended and I left to go to the library to catch a quick nap before my next class.
I walked down the path to the library when a group of boys approached me. They all looked big and muscular. "Is she the one?" one of the guys asked the others. "Yes, she is," another answered, showing them a picture on his phone.
"Hey guys, I'm quite busy, so if you don't have something important to say, I would prefer if you moved out of my way," I said to them, annoyed.
Why were they blocking my path?
"Such a mouth on her, that must be why they want her," one of them remarked. They? Who were they? It suddenly dawned on me.
The people who had shot that guy were after me. Damn. That's what happens when you try to help people. I needed to find a way out of this. I counted them. Four guys? They brought four guys to try to kidnap me?
I considered all possible escape routes. I could run, but they would find me. s**t. I need to find that guy. "Hey idiots, let me go. We are in a school in broad daylight. Do you think you can grab me without everyone seeing you? You'll get arrested before you even make it out of the campus without being caught.
You didn't think this through," I smirked at them. They started chuckling. "Well, let's see about that," one of them raised his hand with a smirk. I stared at him, wondering what was supposed to happen. They stared at me in disbelief. "What's happening? Why isn't your power working on her?" one of them asked the guy. Powers? These guys must be on another level of delusional. Well, maybe I was being paranoid.
This was probably just a bunch of weirdos. I started walking away, but they tried to grab me, and I sprinted into a run. I ran as they chased me, running fast to the security post of the school. When I got there, I ran in panting. "Help! There are some strange guys after me," I said between breaths. The security guards stood up. "What do you mean?" one of them asked.
He could barely fit into his uniform and was eating chips. "Don't worry, miss. We'll handle it. They've probably run off by now. You just need to file a report," a lanky guard who had been on his phone said. "Four guys, they were all big and muscular. They tried to kidnap me," I explained, looking around anxiously. I was in a state of panic.
"Miss, calm down," a woman said, coming to touch me. I flinched, still panicking and looking around. I looked out and saw the guys approaching the security building. "There they are," I said, still scared. The woman muttered something about sexism and told me to stand behind her.
They opened the door and entered the building. "Excuse me, sirs. How can I assist you? Unless you have a security report to make, I suggest you leave," the guard said to them in an angry, threatening tone.
"What do we have here? A feisty cat," one of the guys said, causing the others to laugh. The overweight guard walked up to them in what was supposed to be an intimidating walk and said,
"Gentlemen, if you don't have anything important to do, we advise you to go home or find something else to occupy yourselves. Don't harass a member of this school or disrespect the campus police unit, or we'll have you arrested." He looked up at them, giving them a stern stare. They were all taller than him, and he looked really small.
"Tommy, step back," the woman called to him, still shielding me. "Well, feisty cat, don't you think we should put the humans to sleep and see what you can do?" one of the guys said. Then the guy who had raised his hand before raised it again, and everyone except me and the woman collapsed on the floor and fell asleep.
"What the hell is going on here?" I said, shocked. How in the world did this happen? How did this guy make these people fall asleep? Is it some kind of chemical attack? I immediately covered my nose and turned to the woman.
"Cover your nose. I think they are using a chemical to induce sleep." She didn't seem to respond but kept staring at them growling.
They came charging at us, but she pushed me aside and attacked them. I watched in disbelief as she transformed into a half-cat, half-human creature with fangs and claws. She continued to fight them with her claws, tearing them apart. I stared at her, unable to comprehend what was happening.
How was any of this possible? Maybe the gas was affecting my memory. Maybe I was hallucinating. I pinched myself hard, trying to snap back to reality. I could still see the woman clawing at them. She still appeared to be a hybrid of a cat and a woman.
"Is this some kind of prank?" I muttered. "Julie, run!" the woman screamed, calling my name. Two of the men tried to restrain her while one punched her. Another started moving towards me as if to capture me. I sprinted as if to escape from him, but he was faster and grabbed me by the hair, pulling me back.
I struggled and managed to land a punch on his nose, loosening his grip on my hair. I attempted to run again, but he held onto my hair tightly, refusing to let go.
Just when I thought I was caught and my life was over, the guy holding my hair released his grip, and he was thrown across the room, crashing into the wall and collapsing. I turned towards the door to see who had done it.
There stood a man in a gray suit. He looked magnificent, almost royal. He had dusty blond hair that was perfectly styled and a flawlessly handsome face with striking green eyes that seemed almost too green and unreal.
In an instant, he was beside me, pulling me towards him. Holding me, he gestured towards the three men and they were pulled towards him by an invisible force. He clenched his fist, and their lifeless bodies fell to the floor.
The cat lady was unconscious from the beating she had endured. "Hey, Julie, I apologize for meeting under such unfortunate circumstances, but it seems like fate has a different plan. I am Damien, your second destined," he said, still holding me close.
"Second destined? What does that mean?" I asked him. He began to explain when the cat lady stood up. "My king," she said, bowing to him.
My king? What kind of messed up situation is happening here?
"Do you know who these men are?" he asked her. "No, my king. In all my years here, we have never encountered a sleep inducer and these types of creatures attacking us."
"Types of creatures? What is happening here?" I asked, angry and visibly concerned.
"We'll discuss this later, my love. Right now, we need to leave. These guys will soon wake up," he said, pointing at the security guards. "Some enforcers will come to pick up these guys for questioning.
I have erased the memories of all the security guards. It will appear as a break-in, and the air was poisoned with carbon dioxide to make it plausible," he said to the cat lady and grabbed me by the waist. "I'm afraid, we have to go now, Julie" he said, and we teleported, and then I blacked out.
