Chapter 4 Claimed and Protected

Damien's pov Damn," I muttered, cradling her unconscious body. She had blacked out during the teleportation. "Damn it, tonight is going to be the death of me," I cursed, carrying her up to a room. I had teleported us to the penthouse, our secret hideout that was both unexpected and well-planned. This building was exclusively for supernaturals, and the penthouse was protected against any creature or power that existed. The other supernaturals didn't pay it any mind, as they understood the desire for privacy among the older supernaturals. They didn't know who owned the house and didn't care. Each supernatural preferred to stick to their kind and mind their own business. The only ones aware of the penthouse's existence were myself and Night. It was safer than the manor or even Night's castle. A perpetual night spell had been cast on it, with another spell to conceal it. The windows were impenetrable, even to the keen eyes of a vampire. I covered her body and mentally contacted Night. "I'll be there soon," he responded through our mind link. Within seconds, he appeared in the room through a night portal from his castle. Since it was daytime, he couldn't teleport freely like he could at night, so he had to rely on portals to move between places. He had portals set up everywhere for easy transportation, including one that linked directly to the penthouse. "Where is she?" he asked, his face filled with worry as he approached me. "She's sleeping. She passed out after the teleportation," I informed him as he walked past me and headed upstairs to her. "It must be the protection spell affecting her," he speculated, touching her forehead. "She's completely unconscious," he confirmed, still touching her forehead. I heard a mental knock from one of my enforcers. They were trying to communicate with me. "Your majesty, the sleep inducer is waking up," he informed me. "I'll be there in a minute," I replied mentally and turned to Night. "The sleep inducer is awake. I have to go." He nodded, understanding, and I leaned in and kissed him then I leaned down to Julie, kissed her forehead, and teleported away. I had waited for centuries to find my destined one, and anyone who tried to harm her would face my wrath. As the sleep-inducer regained consciousness, I entered the interrogation room. "Hello again, my friend," I greeted him with a casual yet deadly smile. "Your Majesty, I had no idea she belonged to you, I swear. I was just doing my job," he attempted to explain. "Of course you didn't. Who sent you?" I asked, my smile dripping with poison. He hesitated, unsure of what to tell me. At that moment, he sealed his fate, just like the others who had tried to kidnap my destined one. By hesitating to answer me, he determined how he would meet his end. I immediately used my blood magic to poison him. It was a skill I excelled at, making his blood feel like tiny needles piercing his body. He was in agony, and I reveled in it. He screamed as his blood crystallized into sharp needles. "Your Majesty, please, please. I don't know, I swear," he cried out in pain. "We received a message with her picture from someone offering to pay us to capture her," I released the magic, and his blood began to return to normal. "Thank you, thank you, your majesty," he panted. "Talk," I commanded him. "That's all I know. I swear. We were given half the payment upfront, and the message promised the other half upon delivery," he pleaded. I stared at him intently. "Where were you supposed to take her?" I inquired. "The person didn't tell us exactly. They said we would know when we got there. I swear, Your Majesty," he begged. I nodded, feigning understanding. He sighed in relief, thinking I had let him off the hook. But then, I resumed poisoning his blood, and he screamed in agony. "This is for attempting to deceive me," I stated before leaving the room as his screams echoed behind me. My enforcers looked visibly frightened. Many people were when they discovered the extent of power I possessed. "Go through his phone, find out about the wired transfer, track the sender, and report back to me," I instructed Zephyr, my general. "Yes, your majesty," he nodded with a bow. I exited the building and teleported to the alley behind the grocery store. I entered the store to purchase some human food. Night and I didn't consume human food, so we didn't require it. However, Julie was human, or at least part human, and she needed it. I smiled at the cashier. "What does one have to do to get a personal shopper around here?" I asked, charming her. She immediately called over another cashier to take her place and followed me. As a hobby, I occasionally cooked human food to pass the time, but most of the ingredients were usually procured by my butler at the manor. She guided me through the store, assisting me with my purchases. I bought flour, eggs, rice, various cuts of steak and chicken, ground beef, and a complete collection of spices. I also bought plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, sodas, juices, and a variety of snacks. She helped me gather everything I needed. We proceeded to the checkout, and the items were bagged. I paid and generously tipped each person a thousand dollars. They were all shocked, but I was too elated to care. I had bought food to nourish my destined one, and that was all that mattered to me. They offered to help carry the bags, but I declined, pretending to wave them off while secretly using magic to hold them. I exited the store and teleported back to the penthouse. I placed all the items on the kitchen island and went upstairs to check on Julie. I entered her room and saw her sleeping on the bed. Night sat beside her stroking her hair. “How is she" I asked taking a seat on the bed. “I can't seem to get into her head. The glamor protects her from all forms of manipulation. Whoever cast this spell on her is very powerful" he said I touched her head and tried to pry into her mind with my senses. I felt what seemed like a large wall blocking me from entering her head. There was something not right here. Night was the king of the dark and she was asleep. He should be able to get to her in her sleep. Sleep was one of Night's tools. "We will get to the bottom of this"
