Sophia's thoughts swirled as she walked back to her tiny apartment. City lights bathed street in muted glow but her mind was still locked on brief exchange with Lucas West. Who did he think he was walking in here and acting like she was invisible? Nerve of him!
But more she thought about it more her thoughts lingered on his cold almost calculating gaze. Even though she'd pushed back against his arrogance there was something about way he looked at her that made her wonder if he ever truly saw anyone as equals.
Sophia shoved thought aside she had bigger things to worry about than some rich CEO who thought he was better than everyone else.
As she reached building where she lived she fumbled in her bag for keys. Her apartment wasn't much small a bit cramped but it was hers and most importantly it was place where she could come up with plan for her future.
Door clicked open she tossed her bag onto couch collapsing onto worn cushions with a sigh.
Her feet ached from long day but fatigue didn't stop storm of thoughts racing through her mind.
Just as she was about to settle in and pull out sketchbook her phone buzzed on coffee table.
She reached for it noticing best friend's name lighting up screen.
Kate she smiled pressing green button.
"Hey what's up?" Sophia said stretching her legs out on couch.
"Soph!" Kate's voice was always high-energy making Sophia smile even more.
"I just got best news I swear you're not going to believe it."
Sophia raised an eyebrow.
"You know I'm listening but you've got to calm down first. What's going on?"
"I was scrolling through job postings and guess what I found?" Kate paused dramatically knowing she had Sophia's full attention now.
"West Industries is hiring they're looking for head designer and guess what? Pay is insane!"
Sophia's stomach flipped she sat up straighter propping her phone against her shoulder.
"Wait West Industries? Same company that runs city's top art gallery and entertainment division?"
Kate added, her voice pulsating with enthusiasm, "Yes! It's the one. " “Knowing what that means for you, getting this position could help you to quickly save for your art studio. ”
Sophia's heart raced at the idea. West Industries was major. Working there could totally alter things. At long last, she may be close to having an art studio, a place where her projects might inspire others and have space.
Still, Sophia floated a little issue; she wasn't quite a professional insider. Uncertain about whether she had what it took to get such a prized employment opportunity. Furthermore, she had never truly operated in a corporate setting before. Whether she could make it in the cutthroat business scene, she wasn't sure.
Kate's voice pierced Sophia. "Are you still there? Did I lose you?
Sophia snapped back in time. "I am here, here. I'm just astounded. Would you say I stand a shot? ”
Kate gave a small sneer. "An opportunity? Girl, you've got talents. Furthermore, if you can stand your ground with the haughty people you encounter daily, this business will be a stroll in the park for you.
Sophia laughed, but her heart was still racing. Walking in the park is something I'm not sure about. I have never even visited their offices, leave along searching for employment there. Their CEO, Lucas West, most likely does not the kind of person to employ someone like me.
Kate let out a huff. “Definitely a pompous i***t is Lucas West. Still, you have real talent he lacks. Quit second-guessing yourself so. Apply; let no one say it is not possible. ”
Sophia stopped, her fingers tracing the border of her sketchbook automatically. The thought of the work, of really working for a business like West Industries, still seemed somewhat odd. Still, Kate was accurate. When would she take chances if not now?
Sophia said, resolution starting to slip into her voice, "You're right. " I have no points to lose. Tonight, I will put everything into practice. ”
With acceptance, Kate's voice became softer. That sounds good to me. You go, young lady. For the interview, simply make sure you dress well and highlight your abilities exactly. And forget Lucas West. He is simply another wealthy man who believes his riches entitles him to be disrespectful. Just remember that you are in charge. ”
Sophia smiled, feeling her closest friend's support. Thank you, Kate. You're phenomenal. "
"Every time," said Kate with a playful tone. “Let me know if you need assistance with your interview preparation as well. ” I have your back. ”
Sophia hung up and then sat silent for a second, her phone screen aglow. Her head swam with options. This was everything. The chance she had been hoping for.
Nor did it matter if the package included Lucas West. She was going to do this for her dream, for her creativity.
More over, no haughty billionaire would block her way.
