Chapter 3

1058 Words
Daniel's POV During my conversation with Marie and my friends, I noticed Grey. She was letting her hair cover her face as usual. She raised up her face slightly to look at the tree above her. It was then that I noticed her dark brown eyes and her knobby nose. Her eyes were the perfect shape. Everything about her was luring me in. I could tell that when I called attention to her, she was livid. When the lunch bell rang, my friends and I left but I stayed behind to enjoy her beauty a little longer. She left to get something at her locker. I went to the cafeteria to join my friends. As soon as they spotted me, they started hooting and smiled. It had been 18 minutes since she left. I wondered how long it'd take for her to get something from her locker. I looked over at Marie and she looked worried. I excused myself from my table and went the way she went. I heard her let out a whimper and I hurried towards the sound. I could tell that she was with someone as I neared her. I came to the hallway where she was and I saw her dangling. Mason was gripping her so hard, I was worried she'd pass out. I let out a small growl. I challenged Mason to a fight. As he charged towards me I dodged it and kicked him in the jaw. I heard a sickening c***k and Grey made a run for it. I didn't want to lose her so I took care of Mason on time. I followed her to her locker just in time to pick her fallen books. I noticed she was checking me out and I smirked. I made a straight face and I cleared my throat. I noticed that she was reading one of my mom's books. We had a short conversation and I let her go. I might just make her my girlfriend, I thought to myself. *Don't you dare, you promised*, my wolf growled lowly in my head. 'I know,' I replied, 'I might make an exception though'. *** I ran in my wolf form as I let out an excited howl. I was going to see my mom, finally. I got to see her every month but I just felt excited every time. My paws hit the ground hard and I couldn't have been more proud about my species. The trees zipped past until they thinned out and I arrived at my mom's cottage that was just on the outskirt of our small civilization. I whined just outside the door and I scratched at the door. My mom let out a small chuckle and I heard her footsteps come closer to the door. She opened the door and smiled at my huge wolf and opened the door wide for me. I ran up to my room and shifted. I wore a pair of shorts and threw on a top. I knew my mom would be in the study room. I saw her seated at the table, bent over a manuscript as usual. After my dad died, that was basically what she did. I hugged her from behind and whispered in her ear, “I missed you mom” “I missed you too, Danny” she said. I kissed her on the cheek. “I cooked your favourite”. I stood up instantly and headed to the kitchen. I received a message on my phone. It read; Ben: Noticed you were home, how about we play a friendly game to just unwind. I grinned and sent him a reply saying 'Game on.'. “Mom, I'm going to see Ben!” I yelled. She hummed in response and I hurriedly left. Ben and I met at the pack house basketball court. As we saw each other, we bumped shoulders and patted each other on the back simultaneously. We then hugged again. Ben and I have been friends since we were little. Ben was tall and handsome, he had a grey eyes and dirty blonde hair. He was seven months older than me. He was the alpha of my pack and just took over, when he turned eighteen. Ben never let rank determine our friendship level. “How has life in the human world been?” Ben asked playfully “It's been fine, sometimes lonely because my family is here but it's all good. Soon enough, I'll move back here.”, I answered truthfully. “Stalling, are we?” I said to Ben as I snatched the ball he was holding from him and bounced it as I moved along the court. I felt the humans were pathetic creatures but I'd give them credit for basketball. I simply loved the sport. After two hours of playing, Ben and I sat on the bleachers and just talked about our daily routine. I could tell that the position he had just occupied months ago, was a really tasking position. We sat in comfortable silence for a while until my phone started beeping. I pulled it out of my pocket and checked the phone screen. I hardly checked my notifications because I was always being tagged by people. This one seemed different though, maybe because I was not busy with anything at the moment. I opened the notification curiously and when I saw the heading of the new school article, I gasped in shock. Pictures of Grey and I from today we're splattered everywhere and the heading read; DISABLED GIRL TRIES TO WOO FAMOUS BASKETBALLER I didn't have to read through cuz I was sure that it was pathetic and a complete lie. I saw a comment and I knew that Grey was going to have a terrible day tomorrow. It was inevitable. It'd take a long time for her to live it down. Ben must have seen the terror on my face because he asked me what was wrong. I couldn't form words so I just looked down and placed my phone in his hands. I had created a problem for Grey and funny enough I couldn't let go like I normally would. I felt pain rush through me like I was the one being attacked. I finally found my voice and asked, “What do I do?”
