Chapter Forty-three
JUST RIGHT after Cara dressed up for work, the familiar black car owned by Alex's classmates parked in front of their lawn. From the small opening of the window in her window, she watched its car burst opened by a blonde young man dress in overall black. His overall physique suggested that he was a bit older than her son. The way he walks towards the front part of the car was a bit alarming to Cara. Not to mention that he was puffing a cigarette as he leaned on the car.
Earlier, when they were finished having their breakfast, Cara offered Alex to drive him towards the address of his classmate in attempt to talk with him and more possibly, to discuss the serious matter at their school that he was primarily involved with. Despite their small argument, Cara hoped that he would still give it a chance, regardless of the umbrage he felt during the mere inquiry of his mother. But it seems all of his time was already reserved for his classmates; such simple request was too hard for him to do.
Because of his determination to join go on alone with his classmates, Cara expected that they were a bit decent and formal. Youngsters whose as the same age as Alex tends to have greater interest on digital knowledge concerning their careers. They could be hard-headed but they are just kids who wants to have fun. Cara already pictured that in her mind and expected she would see such characteristics on his said classmates. She never thought smoking is included to their little activities.
One hard slam from the door on their porch and Alex appeared on Cara's view. He was walking rather tedious towards the car, Cara couldn't see any delightment in his posture. The blonde teenage boy straightened his back and with a last puff of smoke, he flicked the cigarettes on the concrete road, stomped on it and gestured the front seat to Alex. Her son immediately obliged. The door of the front seat opened and with little distance, Cara could see that there are more teenage boys inside the car, she wasn't sure if their ages was on the same level with Alex and if their characteristics wouldn't be offending.
As Alex slipped himself in, Cara felt a knot in her stomach while watching him. It was almost as if he stepped into a passage of another world full of danger and she could only watch him being dragged towards it. She knew it was such an absurd idea to think that way but her gut feeling was just too overwhelming, she almost bolted towards that car and pull out Alex before they could leave.
All thanks to her resistance, she had managed to control herself and they left without any interruption. She withdrew a deep sigh, trying to stay positive and rational as she could. Instead of spending another hour worrying herself, Cara took her gun and badge and headed out. She brought the same map that was marked with several points she had realized last night. On the way to her door, she checked her cellphone for any updates from Eric. True enough, one message came from him. It entered her inbox just a minute ago.
Got updates from the staff. Nothing valuable came out of it. All of them bore no essential information about the event and the man who alledgedly harassed them.
She got inside the car while composing a message for him.
Discuss it with me. I've got something new. Meet me at the Bistro. Now, Eric.
When she hit the send, she wasted no time and set the car into life. She peeled out from their driveway and stepped hard on the accelerator, placing her worry for Alex at the back of her mind and darting her focus towards Candy Filimon's whereabouts. Her heart pumped loudly as she drove, the anticipation to discuss the information she just discovered took over her entirely. And she can't wait to see how it would help them close the case for good.
