The Warm Genius Senior.

1800 Words
Recess ends in twenty minutes. Anna and Sara decide to go back to their classroom as soon as they have finished their drinks. After throwing their empty cans into the dustbin, they both quickly head back to the third floor, where their class is located. "I need to go to the restroom. You want to go with me?" Sara asked between her breath as soon as their feet landed on the third floor. She was panting after climbing up the stairs to get there. It seemed like she had not much energy left. "No. I will just go ahead to the classroom." Anna replies with a chuckle. It was fun to see Sara gasping for air while she could still leisurely walk around the college feeling energized as ever. Thanks to the coffee she'd drunk earlier. It helps her restore her energy and, hopefully, it will last until school ends later in the evening. "Then I'll go first!" Sara says and immediately starts to slowly walk away. Heading to the restroom at the end of the floor. Anna watches while Sara steps away from the adjoining corridor before she herself starts making her way to their classroom on her right holding another can of coffee in her hand. As clumsy as she is, the coffee suddenly slips from her hand and falls onto the floor. Anna gaped as she saw the coffee rolls on the floor and finally reached a pair of legs who were standing before the door. Sadly for Anna, it was Carter. And his eyes were on her before they shifted to the coffee which was lying on the floor in front of him. Face expressionless as ever, he just stood there doing nothing. Anna quickly composed herself, ran towards him, picked up the coffee from the floor and stepped back to the adjoining corridor without saying anything to Carter, who was obviously observing her every single move, with his so-called cold mysterious stare. His stare, somehow, gave her a chill vibe, making her nervous like no one ever did. Canceling her plan to sit in the class, since Carter was there and she was too afraid to be in the same atmosphere as him with nobody else around, she decides to wait for Sara. Taking out her phone, she randomly checks her group message just to calm her nerves. Why did it have to be Carter among everybody else? Leaning against the brick wall, she scolded herself for her own clumsiness. "Why are you still here?" Sara's voice startled Anna to the point that her phone almost slips from her hands and falls onto the floor. "Why do you look so surprised? Are you seeing a ghost?" Sara asked again when there was no reply from Anna. What's wrong with her? Why does her face look pale like she was afraid of something? "Ah?" Anna was too blurred to answer Sara's question. "Are you okay?" Sara started to show her concern. Her eyes never forgot to scan Anna's body from head to toe in order to figure out what was wrong with her friend. Anna's eyes were blinking at Sara's frowning face while she tried to gather herself and her thoughts. "I'm okay." She replied a few moments later. "Let's go!" she added, and walked off. Stepping into the classroom, Anna's intuition was right when there was only Carter there. Sitting alone in his seat, his eyes never leave Anna when she makes her way from the front door to her seat. Anna, however, started to feel relieved when she was doing the right thing earlier by waiting for Sara first. Never can she imagine how suffocating it would be to be alone with Carter and his signature cold stare. Everybody is finally back in the classroom just before an English teacher walks in and introduces herself as Miss Hemelia. She looks stunning in her early thirty's, but she seems to have that kind of hard-to-please personality, as she strictly told them, she doesn't like anyone to be late or being out of her class, no matter for whatever reason it is. "Okay, class! As you know, English here will not be in your final semester exam's schedule as you will take the exam separately. You will have to register first, pay the exam fee and attend all four different components. And remember to get the highest band, since it is crucial to ensure that you get accepted to the universities to which you applied. So, do not take it easy!" Everyone nods their heads and starts to get ready to write their first essay according to the title given by Miss Hemilia as soon as she finished her introduction briefing. Unlike other teachers who choose to ask the student directly about their high school grades, she used her own tricky way to get to know her students better by giving them an assignment on their first day. Anna, by the way, finishes the essay in just fifteen minutes as her other classmates are still struggling to write theirs. Despite being the best student in English, after seven months of doing nothing after finishing high school, she felt like her writing skills were slipping. However, she is too lazy to give it more effort as she doesn't really like the subject much. "You finished extra early. It must be easy for you since you're the best student, but me, I don't even know what I'm writing. Why did she have to torture us on our first day?" Sara complained a few minutes after Miss Hemelia collected their papers and got out of the class while they needed to be in the lab for Chemistry class in five minutes. "Shh!" Anna, who didn't like attracting much attention, made a gesture for Sara to shut up and mind her words before her voice reached out to other students in the class. Best student in English or not, it was all in the past. And she would like to stay humble until the rest of the semester. Furthermore, she's now in the Science Stream. What's the point of being excellent at English when she is just an average in all science subjects? "What's wrong?" Sara whispered into Anna's ear. "Nothing, let's go!" Anna picked up her things and waited for Sara to join her. And they walked together with the rest of their classmates down to the laboratory on the second floor. Chemistry, which is Anna's favourite subject and different from English, Anna puts her sole focus on the Chemistry teacher's, Sir Theo, briefing as he encouraged them to never give up on the tough syllabus and told them about a senior who used to get a four flat result last semester and he is now in his second semester. It didn't take long for Anna to admire the senior's excellent result, as she had done some research on the internet earlier, looking for someone who got the full score in the science stream as her motivator to go further but failed to find one. The fact that there was someone at her own college who successfully got that score, made her curious about him and she was looking forward to meeting him in person. But, what kind of person is he? A nerdy with some weird personality or a handsome, charming guy? The class ended in forty minutes and Anna decided to go and talk to the teacher personally while everyone else was making their way back to the classroom. While she talks about her passion for Chemistry and her future plans to further her studies until she gets a Phd, she notices two boys, obviously students just like her, walking into the lab and sitting at the place she used to sit earlier. Mr. Theo, however, suddenly turned his head to the boys and said, "Josh, this is Anna! Dr.Anna as she wants to pursue a Phd in Chemistry." His action surprised Anna as she heard the name mentioned. Josh? Josh Thompson! The fourth flat scorer senior? Oh my God! "Hi!" Josh says and smiles brightly at Anna as his friend, who was sitting next to him, taps his shoulder to encourage him. Anna, however, was too shocked at meeting him in person to even utter a single word to him and could only nod her head. Josh Thompson, the top science scoring student, turned out as a tall and handsome guy with pale white skin and, judging from the broad smile on his face, he seemed to have a warm personality. Despite how famous he is. "Why is your new student's voice so weak, sir?" Josh asked Mr.Theodore as he referred to Anna, probably because he couldn't even hear her voice despite how close their distance was. Mr.Thompson's answer didn't reach Anna's ear as she chose to just leave while they talked, but she couldn't hide the fact that she was feeling happy as ever. Today must be her lucky day to be blessed with such a lucky encounter with Josh Thompson. A handsome genius with a warm personality, to be precise. What a perfect person! "Why do you look so happy? I can assure you you are smiling right now under your face mask." Sara commented on Anna's reaction when she got into the classroom and sat in her place. "I met Josh." Anna whispered to Sara. Making sure nobody else heard her. Especially the cold weird guy in her class who's eyes never left her since she walks back into the classroom from the lab. What is wrong with him? Does he know his cold stare somehow scared her? "Josh the genius senior? Oh my God!" Sara exclaimed and almost screamed with joy upon hearing Anna's words. "Stop, Sara! You're too loud!" Anna said, in her low voice. "Okay, okay!" Sara was finally able to calm down. The rest of the day goes well until school ends at two thirty pm. Sara goes out first since there's a change of plan as her father is picking her up and he's already waiting at the front gate. Anna, who was going home by herself, slowly gathered her things and leisurely walked out of the classroom, heading downstairs and didn't notice who was walking behind her until that person chose to step in front of her, cut her in the middle of the stairs, leaving her stunned by his actions. Anna knows his legs are long and he walks fast, but can't he just wait until she reaches the ground floor? What if she misses her steps and falls onto the floor? Nobody is around and Anna is pretty sure Carter will just leave and let her suffer alone. What is her sin to be in the same class as the one and only, Carter Hayes?
