I was ready in the sense that I was always ready for a little hand-to-hand do-si-do. But…I wasn’t exactly expecting this fucker to attack me in broad daylight on Barrett’s front lawn in full-on monster mode. The monsters knew that to survive, they had to hide. Except Mark Jared missed that particular monster memo. He’d taken his beastly form to attack, and that meant claws and fangs. But he also had a knife, so fun f*****g times for me. With a three-pronged attack—fangs, claws, and knife—I needed distance and a gun. Lucky for me—f**k luck, more like planning—I had a gun on me. Not so lucky, while a werewolf in beastly form had slower reflexes than me, he could cover more ground. I drew my weapon as I retreated and then fired, but I only managed three shots before he was on top of me
