5 The flash of pain in my shoulder was fierce but faded fast. My clothing wasn’t even singed. That was some trick. Not one I’d mastered. Once the fidget that focused the flames was out of my hands, my fire was garden-variety and didn’t burn for long unless it encountered a fuel source. “f**k,” I muttered under my breath when I moved. The pain hadn’t faded entirely. And the pain on contact had been enough to screw my aim and send one of my precious four darts wide. Only three more tries, and I didn’t even know if they’d work. Also, any allusions I had to being immune to magical fire were shattered. “You okay?” I arched an eyebrow and tipped my head in the direction of our supposed honorable dragon.
