ONCE THE DOOR CLOSED behind Mark, Leah turned to Axel and barked, “Now talk.”
“I see that your empathic skills don’t extend to your exterior attitude. Politeness isn’t one of your strengths,” he remarked.
Leah paled under the masked rebuke, but she repeated with stoicism, “Talk.”
Axel ran his fingers through his thick hair, and standing up, he moseyed to the window. He looked at the lake without actually seeing anything and reflected about how to start their discussion. It wasn’t an easy choice.
Leah had almost lost her last shred of patience and decided to get mean with him, when he turned back to her and eyed her thoughtfully.
