I rolled my eyes immediately and said, “I’m not getting in the car with you.” He leaned slightly forward, resting his arm on the steering wheel. “You’re really stubborn, you know that?” he said, his voice half amused, half tired. I gave him a sweet, mocking smile. “And you’re still standing there wasting your gas,” I replied, and then turned, walking down the street without another glance. I kept walking.
