Chapter Two: Bristol High
Bristol High School loomed before Jane, its imposing structure a testament to the town's pride and prestige. The sprawling campus bustled with students from influential families, their laughter and chatter filling the air. The sun cast a warm glow over the manicured lawns, where students lounged and socialized.
Jane stood in the field, surrounded by her friends Beauty and Kate. The scent of freshly cut grass wafted through the air as they chatted.
"Did you know that since I shouted at Lucas last week, I haven't set eyes on him?" Beauty said, her brow furrowed in concern.
"That's because he's just avoiding you," Jane replied, her gaze drifting toward the passing students.
As she scanned the crowd, her eyes landed on a figure standing far away, shrouded in shadows. A mask obscured their face, sending a shiver down Jane's spine. She remembered seeing someone similar before.
"Guys, look," Jane whispered, tapping Kate's shoulder.
"What is it?" Kate asked, following Jane's gaze.
But the mysterious figure had vanished.
"Are you alright? You're acting kind of strange," Beauty asked, her voice tinged with worry.
"I'm fine. I just thought I saw something," Jane replied, her mind racing.
Later, Jane entered the bathroom after another lecture, the sound of running water and muted conversations enveloping her. Julia, a proud brown-haired student from Class B, stood at the sink.
"Are you going to represent Class A?" Julia asked, her voice dripping with malice, as she wiped her hands with toilet paper.
"Why do you want to know?" Jane countered, her eyes narrowing.
"I'm just saying that it would be better if you don't," Julia said, her gaze cold.
"And why's that?" Jane pressed, her curiosity piqued.
"Isn't it obvious? I'm not going to let anyone else get the spotlight that was meant for me," Julia sneered, folding her arms.
"So...you're indirectly saying that I can actually beat you in the competition?" Jane smiled, her eyes sparkling.
"You're twisting words," Julia snapped. "All I'm saying is if you participate, everyone will give you attention you don't deserve, and your pride will make you feel like you're bigger than everyone else."
"Isn't that what you're doing—making everyone believe you're some sort of goddess when you're just garbage?" Jane retorted, her voice steady.
Julia's face reddened with rage. "You...!"
Jane intercepted Julia's raised hand, her grip firm. "I seriously don't get your point, Julia, but if me representing Class A will make you uncomfortable, then I'm more than willing to put your stupid ass down once and for all."
Julia's eyes blazed. "You...you won't dare."
"Just watch me," Jane replied, releasing Julia's hand, and walked out.
