CHAPTER 2

CHAPTER TWO I popped the aspirin swallowing it down with a huge chunk of water hoping it would calm my throbbing headache down a notch. Massaging my forehead I sat down again dialing the contacts to Sinclair’s company for the seventh in one day. The receptionist picked once again.   “Ma’am the answer is as I have already told you the other six times, Mr. Sinclair’s schedule is fixed for the next five days. Try next week miss,” damn it. She was really pissing me off every time she repeated the same thing like some programmed talking machine.   “Look lady I don’t care how but I need to see your boss first thing in the morning. Do you want to get fired?” I threatened in a low tone.   “I’m sorry Miss but I have got to go now. It’s way past my office hours,’ she cut off the call much to my utter annoyance. Truthfully speaking, I was a little surprised she was actually still in the office.   Frustration got the better of me and in rage I threw the phone to the floor hearing it breaking into small pieces. I stood up pacing to and fro in my spacious office, trying to come up with more ideas on how to come up with funds in a span of two days. I had already scheduled a meeting with one of the banks with the one goal of securing a loan. Yawning I clasped my mouth with my right hand stretching my tired muscles. It was eleven but I was still not going home till I found the solution to my problem. I don’t remember falling asleep but I do remember waking up to my mother’s worried shriek.   “Oh my God! Zoe,” I opened my eyes to look at her.   “What mum?” every part of my being felt groggy.   “You slept in the office? Do you have any idea how worried we were? We called your cell more than a dozen time but it wouldn’t go through,” Typical mum, always worried about my whereabouts.   “What is the time?” I questioned instead.   “It’s 8.30 in the morning,” she glanced at the wrist watch daddy bought last month as a commemoration of the day they met. . “Oh no, I have a meeting with Breitweser at 9.30. Hopefully he will grant us a loan,” I stated already rushing to my spare wardrobe.   Thankfully my office was complete with a spare bathroom inside and I always made sure to keep it supplied with everything including my makeup kit. Twenty minutes later I was done and wearing a maroon pencil skirt with full arm white blouse. I applied a bit of blush with some eyeliner to hide the bugs under my eyes. I found Gina setting down my coffee accentuated with a pint of milk just like how I loved it.   “Thanks Gina so much, for everything you have done for us,” I half smiled at her, my voice wearing the softest coating of sincerity.   “Am I getting fired? Oh my God! I’m getting fired, ain’t I?” she rumbled on in full panic mode.   “Of course not. Why would you even think I want to fire you?” I laughed as she calmed down.   “Because every other time a boss begins with a statement like that, then someone gets retrenched,” she explained.   “Oh Gina, I would always see to it that you always have your job. Back to matters at hand, does this outfit give an official vibe?” I gestured at myself as she let her eyes roam over my clothes.   “Yeah, although it’s more of a sexy kind of official,” I smiled.   “Thanks for your honest opinion. Please hold off all my calls till I return. I’m going to be out for a while. There are very important things I need to take care of urgently,” I picked my keys while carrying my handbag with my left hand.   The twenty nine minutes’ drive to meet Breitweser seemed to be taking forever. The moment I pulled into the parking lot I got out of the R8 rushing to Breitweser’s office. I found his secretary going through some files.   “Hello I’m Zoe Davis. I was scheduled for a meeting with Mr. Breitweser at 9.30,” I hurried on.   “He is expecting you. This way please,” she ushered me to his office.   I knocked twice before walking in to find the forty six year old man going through his laptop. He looked up upon my entrance, a wide grin forming on the corner of his lips. For a man his age, he was quiet good looking but I was not here for that.   “Zoe Davis,” he muttered setting aside the files.   “Mr. Breitweser I’m glad you spared a chance for a meeting. You have no idea what this means to me,” I let a light smile light up my face.   “Who am I to turn down the gorgeous Zoe Davis?” He was clearly quiet the charmer.   ‘I’ll take that as a compliment. So back to business. As I said over the phone if you agree to process a loan of five million dollars then we will pay back with fourteen percent interest which is double the usual seven percent,”   “What is the guarantee for the loan? You have already put a guarantee on your parents’ house, the restaurants. What else can you give up?”   “My condo. It is valued at six point five million. So am in or not?” I questioned watching him rising up and walk towards me.   “Miss Davis all other banks have turn down your company. It is common knowledge that your company is floating on bankruptcy. I would need a little more convincing than that to agree,” his intense stare made feel uncomfortable all of a sudden.   “I already told you I would pay double the interest which I’m pretty would be a huge profit for your bank. This way both of us get gain,” I explained once again.   “I already know that but explaining this to the board requires underground dealings. I would need to get more than half of the members on my side,” he stated.   “You need money?” I played dumb although I already a clue of what he was hinting at.   “I already know how to get my way around, I just need motivation and you already know what I mean,” he leaned down towards me.   “Sir I really don’t know what you mean and I really must be on my way,” I said keeping up a straight face.   His hand trailed my face down towards my left boob before I could stop him. Gasping in surprise I pushed him away while standing up. Out of anger, I slapped him really hard on his left cheek. Completely catching him off guard.   “I have no idea what vibe I gave off but I’m not going to sleep with you. I have my decency to keep so to hell with your offer,” I stormed off with my newfound rage.   Once inside my car I let out a shaky breathe, pulled myself together before driving out and straight to the Sinclair headquarters ready for word battle and if necessary a physical battle. I was so going to get back my family’s self-built company.
