Caius to the rescue

860 Words
The stroll back home was short but absolutely uneventful, with both parties walking widely apart and saying nothing to each other. The silence was so loud that it almost moved lousy Alaric to ask questions but confusion was the order of his day so he just kept to himself till they finally got home. “You know, I’ve been meaning to ask……the whole time we were at church, I noticed something was off about your energy but I just couldn’t place it. Care to share?” Alaric asked, looking straight into Quillon’s eyes. This time, unlike his usual self, he isn’t smiling. “There’s nothing, nothing really…..I just….. I just wasn’t feeling the vibe so I had to leave”. “Really? You had to leave? Oh wow…..well, there’s something important I need to let you know. I just wanted it to be the right time”. Alaric began. “You know, this thing we’re doing, this whole relationship, I want it to end. I need it to end. It has to stop because I don’t think it’s safe for us and genuinely, I think you deserve better, a better man, a better life and the person who can give you that is obviously not me. I mean I love you but……,” “shhhh….hold it there….,” Quillon cut him short, putting his hand on Alaric’s lips and smiling softly in a bid to hold back the tears already building up in his eyes. “I always knew a day like this would come, I just didn’t know it’d come this soon. I knew I was never enough for you so don’t even try. There’s no need to lie, you don’t have to sweet-talk your way through it….it’s fine. Go be with him.” Quillon said softly and walked out of the balcony, holding himself up with the last strength in him. “Be with who? How do you mean, Quillon it’s not what you think, wait…..let me explain, at least listen to me! Wait! Alaric for a fact knows he’s in love with Quillon but he’s too scared to lose Isidore either. It’s been a smooth ride all along, getting the benefits of an exclusive relationship from Isidore whilst being in an open relationship with him and going about frolicking with other men but with Quillon, it’s not going to be the same script because Quillon seems to be a little too aware of himself and will not have anyone play him like a chessboard. Hence the reason for the impromptu breakup. The night for Quillon is the longest he has had in a long while. The thoughts of losing someone he loves stays stuck to him like a wet shirt but the hurt of the fact that he has his entire world built around Alaric cuts even deeper. They were supposed to be not just lovers but two ambitious talents who would work hand in hand to build an empire. Quillon’s plan as an influencer, was to push Alaric’s music with his social media influence and together, they can make money, build, and live the lives of their dream. This is what he’s been doing ever since they met. Every time Alaric drops a song, he sends it to him and he goes out of his way to promote the song. Quillon has in fact dropped a few deals just so he could focus on his lover’s career but now, everything is going down the drain. “Could this have been his plan all along? Did he ever love me…or was I just an afterthought? Or is this a plan of Isidore’s? Oh no! How long have they had this going on for? How come I never noticed?” Quillon kept asking himself, tears streaming down his face like raindrops from a drain. He reached for his bottle of wine and gulped it down his throat. “What do I do?” He kept asking himself. And so the cycle continued. Drink, ask questions, cry! He did this for a few hours until his phone rang. “Hello sunshine, how have you been? I’ve been trying to reach you ever since we met at the restaurant but work has been hectic….. please pardon me” Caius begged over the phone. “Hel…hello good evening,is that Mr. Caius?” Quillon managed to mutter over the phone, his voice cracking as he sniffled the mucus running down his nose. “Yea….yeah it’s me but….are you fine? You don’t sound like the bright morning-sun I know you to be honey, what’s wrong?” “I’m okay….” Quillon said, cracking his voice and sniffling again. “No…..no you’re not, please tell me. I promise you can talk to me or…..you know what, just send me your address, I’ll come to yours so we can talk.” “No that won’t be necessary, I’ll be okay. Also, it’s late already and it’s unsafe to move around by this time” Quillon shrugged, trying to reject Caius’ offer. “Please don’t say no. Please send me your address” Caius begged, unrelenting. “Okay, I’ll do that, Quillon reluctantly agreed.
