CHAPTER FOUR

668 Words
Few months back Lauren I was late again. “I'm so sorry pumpkin, mummy had a meeting and lost track of time.” I said, kneeling down to embrace my son. Ethan was seven, and he is a very smart kid. He looked just like his Dad, Diego. His natural tan, and his thick brown hair which complimented his grey eyes. My boy looks like an angel. “It's okay mummy, Miss Porsha was here to keep me company. We got to play ‘never have I ever.’ I had a great time.” He sounded very cheerful. “Owww I see,” looking up, I walked down to Miss Porsha and apologized for taking too long to get here. We exchanged pleasantries and said our goodbyes. Walking to the car, I took Ethan's lunch pack from him. I promised him the tiramisu chocolate chips ice cream, which was his favorite ice cream flavor from our favorite ice cream parlor, to make up for coming late. He was really excited, which made me very happy. My son has been the best gift Diego gave me, even when he was a douchebag. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Luke drove down a quiet street, he stopped in front of a beautiful white bungalow. In front of the house was a rosarium. The sweet smell of roses hit me, immediately I stepped out of the car. I loved it here. Standing in front of the translucent glass door was Miss Penelope, Ethan's nanny. A plump cheerful woman in her early 60’s, with kind eyes and rosy cheeks. Ethan adored her. “Good afternoon Miss P.” I greeted, as Ethan ran inside to his room after saying hello to Miss P. “Welcome home Lauren dear, you look exhausted. Go freshen up, I'll set the table for lunch.” She said. “Thanks, what's for lunch?” “Pastrami and cabbage soup.” “Yummy, my stomach is growling already. I'll be back in a jiffy. Where is Sasha?” I asked. “She's in the office. Luke, Come help me set the table.” Miss P yelled. “Okay.” Luke called back. After lunch I walked into my office, where I found my friend and personal assistant Sasha, sitting in front of the computer. “How did it go?” She asked without taking her eyes off the screen. “We just talked, he couldn't go through with it. He was feeling guilty, some men are unpredictable.” She laughed so hard. “At least he's paid for your time. I'll flag his account, just in case he wants to book you again.” She added. “Good idea. But I doubt he will.” “A man can get curious or feel adventurous sometimes. Who knows?? That's by the way. Mr Leonardo called and booked you for next weekend. Friday through Sunday. He has a fundraising event in Texas he needs to attend. So he'll be flying you out Friday morning, you'll be back Sunday evening.” “Perfect. I've missed Texas.” I smiled. “Alright then, I need to head out, I'm meeting up with a friend for lunch but I'll be in touch.” Sasha said, standing up and arranging her tote bag. “Alright missy, take care of you.” We hugged, and she stepped out the door. I slumped down the only sofa in the room and stared into the walls. Sasha Harts and I had been friends since senior high school. She was there for me when both my parents separated and my dad remarried, when my mum had kidney surgery, Sasha was there for me and Ethan. Not only was she my only best friend in the world, she was my personal assistant and helped out with Ethan from time to time. Sasha, Luke and Miss Penelope were the only ones who knew about my line of business, in fact she helped vett every single one of my clients before I met up with them.
