13. Jealous

Jay’s POV Since the day I told Mira about who I was, we have grown closer than before. We chatted a lot, even at work we chatted when she was in her office. Every time we were free, we were glued together. There was still some ruckus between Mira and her jerk of a boyfriend. I wanted to tell her to dump him, but I wanted her to make the decision to leave him on her own. I planned to surprise Mira with a lunch date. I had preserved a table at a restaurant near the hospital. It was a 15minutes drive. I planned to steal her from her work for an hour and get back. She had a lot of work since morning. I missed her terribly. I asked her if she could take me to check on a friend shortly and be back for lunch, which she agreed after making me beg. When she agreed, I went to talk to a friend of mine, Lizbeth, who is a doctor. She is one of the other colleagues I find friendly. We just clicked when I helped her carry some stuff into her car, and we have been friends since. I asked her to let me borrow her car for 2 hrs, and then I would take it back. She just tossed me the keys without question, that’s why I like her, she minds her own business. I texted Mira and asked her where she was. She texted right back letting me know she was on her way. I told her to find me in the parking lot, and five minutes later she was with me. She wore a beautiful smile the moment she saw me. When she reached me, I led her to Liz’s car. She raised her brows in amusement, I winked at her and she shook her head. I knew she would have something to say about this. She doesn’t know I was friends with Liz, so I will have some explaining to do. I pulled out of the parking lot and drove off quickly. I had seen some idle nurses staring at us. The last thing I want is them gossiping about us. I glanced at Mira, she seemed pissed for some reason. I asked her what happened. I knew she was tired from the long morning working hours, but that wasn’t a reason to be pissed, or was it? “Mira, what is wrong with you pretty? You look pissed.” The eyes she gave me. If eyes could kill, I would have died already. “Next time you want me to go somewhere with you, at least don’t use your girlfriend’s car.” She was mad at me because of the car. I was surprised by her outburst. Was she jealous right now? A smile formed on my lips. “She’s not my girlfriend Mira,” I said softly. I wish she knew it was her I wanted, not Liz, not Pat, nor any woman in that case. “Stop lying to me, Jay.” She shot me a glare. “I’m not lying to you pretty. We can go ask her when we come back.” She just looked out the window. I smiled, knowing she would not stay mad at me for long. She was just jealous and would calm down. When she realized I was pulling up in a parking lot of a restaurant, she looked at me with raised brows. “Is your friend here?” she asked, confused. “Yes, she should be inside.” I opened the door for her and led her inside. She was surprised when I led her to a table that had red roses on a jar and some petals on the table. She looked at me questioningly, I smiled at her as I pulled a chair for her. I sat down looking at her, I was gazing at her pissed face. Even with her pissed face, she looked so beautiful. “You look more beautiful when you are pissed,” when I looked at her, she was fighting the blush that wanted to make its way to her face. “Don’t talk to me,” she pretended she was still mad, although I could see a smile forming on her lips. “Hey, I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about me and Liz being friends. We just understand each other, nothing more, she’s not my girlfriend.” I said sincerely smiling, “Please don’t be mad at me, I wanted to enjoy this lunch with you.” “You planned for this, I thought we were meeting your friend?” she said with wide eyes, finally realizing it was supposed to be a surprise, “I’m sorry I ruined it.” She sounded worried. “It’s okay pretty you didn’t ruin anything. I wanted to steal you for myself. Could we enjoy it now?” I smiled at her. “Sure.” She said, blushing. “So, does that mean you are not pissed at me now?” “I am not. I'm still mad at you,” she pouted, and she looked so cute. “What do you want, a kiss?” I teased her and pretended to try and kiss her, but she smacked my arm, and we laughed at it. We were served our meal, we enjoyed ourselves while teasing each other. We had finished, and we wanted to get back to work before Ally noticed we had both disappeared. Before we could stand, someone pulled a chair from a nearby table and sat beside me. Looking up, it was none other than Pat. Oh s**t! I cursed under my breath, she made it worse when she threw her arm around my shoulder. “Jay baby, are you on a date with another woman?” My eyes instinctively looked at Mira, the glint I saw in her eyes told me I was in trouble. I took that hand off my shoulder and put it on the table. Mira was glaring daggers at her. I didn’t want drama, especially not here. Mira’s mother would get a hold of the gossip in no time. That lady is influential, and she’s known in this community. I have to deal with this now and quickly. “Pat, what are you doing here,” I asked her in a bored tone. “Jay baby, ain’t you happy to see me?” she asked with a pout. “I’m not your baby Pat, what do you want?” I asked her coldly. “Why are you acting like this? Is it because of this little girl?” “Don’t you f*****g disrespect her Pat!” I gritted my teeth, glaring at her. “What do you see in her that I don’t have?” She was glaring at Mira. Damn it! This woman has no limits. “Mira, let us go.” I wasn’t going to have this conversation here with this crazy b***h. I stood up and moved the chair for Mira to get up. We were about to leave when Pat stood and rushed to hold my arm, “Jay plea…...” I cut her off with a glare, I looked down at where she was holding my arm and back to her eyes. It was a warning for her to let go of my arm. She knew I was pissed and let it go. I have never given her a reason to think I was interested in her. She just ruined our perfect lunch. I took Mira’s hand and led her out. People had started to notice the commotion, so we left quickly. Mira was so furious, fuming with anger. I didn’t want to say anything. She might get angrier. She was cursing under her breath as I drove in silence. I can’t believe Pat just pulled that stunt right now. I drove to a small hill where I liked going to chill out when I needed time to think. Mira didn’t say anything when I changed routes. I took her here so that we could talk and calm her down before we got back and everybody noticed something was off. Army will kill me if she notices her in this mood. I parked on the side of the road and got out. I opened Mira’s door. She just sat there not moving. “Come on Mira, get out.” “Why did you bring me here Jay?” she asked with irritation in her voice. “I brought you here so that we can talk, and I really need you to calm down,” I said with a faint smile. “Honestly, I don’t want to talk to you Jay.” “But why, what did I do Mira?’ She was offloading her anger on me. “Because you don’t seem to understand when I say this makes you look like a womanizer. Did you just see what happened?” “I will let you calm down first, then we can talk. For now, let me show you something, and we will be on our way if you still don’t want to talk,” I said, offering my hand to her. She looked at it for a while but took it. I led her to the place where I had taken a sitting. I let her sit, and I sat down next to her. We stayed quiet enjoying the view and the fresh air on the hill. After a while, I decided to talk to her. I had texted Liz and told her I would be late, and she told me it was okay. She had left anyway. Something had come up so she will pick up the car tomorrow. I was delighted because at least now I didn’t have to hurry back. “This is my lone place. I found it when I was jogging. Since then, I have been coming here every time I need to unwind. No one knows there is this kind of place up here, except me and you now,” I said without looking at her. “Why did you bring me here if it’s your lone place?” “Because I want to share it with you, and I want you to know how important you are to me.” I was looking into her eyes now. “Why do you care so much about me?” “Is it wrong for me to care for you, Mira?” I didn’t want to tell her about my feelings yet. “I’m afraid the way you care for me will put me in trouble, these women will make me their target and if mam hears this I will be in big trouble.” She said in a worried voice. She was afraid and I understood. “What would you have me do, pretty, should I stay away from you?” I asked, the sadness evident in my voice. “NO! No Jay, please don’t take you away from me.” I was stunned by her words, she wanted me to stay. “Okay baby I’m not going anywhere. I will deal with Pat, I promise.” She finally had a smile on her face, “You better stay away from that f*****g bitch.” She warned me and I smirked at her, noticing she cursed out loud, she had never done that. “Yes mam.” I said with a bow, and she pouted at my actions, “Aww you are cuter when you do that.” I added and she smacked my head playfully. “You should let that woman you want to know, maybe Pat will leave you alone once she knows you are not up for grabs.” I chuckled and reached to tuck a strand of her hair and she blushed at my action. “Even if I let her know, and she accepted me, it will take a long time for her to show that I belong to her,” I told her as a fact, staring straight into her eyes. She was surprised by my words. I reached to tuck another strand of her hair that was loose, my hand brushed her face in the process, her skin was so soft. My action made her twist her face, and we were staring into each other’s eyes. I looked at her kissable lips and swallowed hard, she looked at my lips and back to my eyes, she saw me swallowing. We stared into each other’s eyes for a moment before we started closing in on the distance between our lips. We were almost kissing when my phone rang and snapped us back to reality. Damn it, that was close. Mira immediately evaded my eyes and looked at something far away past me, her cheeks turning red. I didn’t pick up the call, it went unanswered. I didn’t even check who was calling. On the second call, I checked and saw it was Ally. No, not this one too, I groaned mentally. She wanted to know where we had disappeared to all afternoon. s**t, I can’t believe this, she knew I was with Mira. That is not good. I told her I was coming to see a friend and Mira tagged along. She complained about being left behind, but I cut her off, telling her she’s a grown ass woman, not a kid, and I hung up. It was time to go back, and we only hoped the gossip about what happened at the restaurant hadn’t reached work yet. It would be bad for Mira if the gossip were to reach her mother. I drove down the hill slowly, chatting happily. Mira started making jokes about the many women she would have to face because of me, and even counted a few. I was laughing all through.
