2. The Girl

Jay's POV

It’s on Monday, my first day at work. After the orientation around the hospital, we had a short meeting with my supervisors from my immediate employer and the immediate supervisors of the hospital I was going to work in, which is a county hospital. After orientation, my work flows well, and I catch up to my work with nice momentum.

I met my colleagues who I was working with in the same office and then there was Ally, with whom I worked directly. She was 3 years older than me. We got along well, we even became friends by the end of that week. One thing I found out about Ally. She talks a lot, loves gossip, and knows everything that goes on the hospital premises and sometimes even outside, more so scandals. I liked her though. She was the most honest and I like honesty.

The public health offices are near the cash office for payments and any other cash-related issues related to the patients. Ally introduced me to the colleagues there, and I managed to make friends with the two running that office, Army and Cody. They were friends with Ally too. I was getting settled well. Ratty had to go back to work, and with my newfound friends, I was a bit better.

Ratty had already found a few of her friends from college, and she introduced me to them before she went back. We became friends, but these were mainly for going out to parties when I needed to. That’s why Ratty introduced me to them. She knew I needed to get a drinking buddy because I was drunk in a way. After 2 weeks, I had already settled in completely.

Army requested me to deliver a file to the outpatient department to a doctor, Lizbet. As I dropped the file, I found the doc with a patient who needed to go to the radiography department. She asked me to guide the patient and I obliged. The hospital is big.

The radiography department was on the side of the hospital, near the administration offices and accounts offices. I showed the patient to the door. I was walking back to my office when I saw a young lady walking in my way. She was so gorgeous, the moment I saw her my mind went into a frenzy. She’s so beautiful.

She was almost past me when I registered to talk

“Hi?” I said to her. To my surprise, she just walked past me like she didn’t hear anything I said. I was astonished, I was used to having women throwing themselves at me. So when this beauty didn’t even spare me one look, I was shocked and excited. Even at the hospital, I had started noticing some ladies watching me out of curiosity, or maybe they liked me.

I was stunned by her beauty, she passed by so quickly, and out of curiosity, I followed her. I thought she was a patient. To my surprise, she went to one of the offices I hadn’t gone to during my orientation, the accounts office. So she isn’t a patient after all. That sounds better, I tell myself. I feel relieved that she’s not a patient, meaning I will be seeing her around.

I went back to my office and sat there thinking about that girl. She was so beautiful. I wonder why she ignored me. Could she be a snob? I was so lost in my thoughts until Ally nudged me, elbowing me to my side.

“Hi Jay, what has got you thinking, you seem so far?”

“It’s nothing Ally, is that why you want to kill me?” I asked her, annoyed with the way she almost gave me a heart attack.

“I didn’t, you are the one who is daydreaming.” She said with a smirk.

“You are so silly sometimes, I am going to talk to Army before you bore me to death,” I said, heading out the door.

“Continue dreaming dream ass.” Hahaha, she laughs at me as I head out, and I roll my eyes at her.

To my surprise, as I got into the cash office before I could say hello, my eyes caught a figure sitting on my favorite chair busy looking at her phone. That is when it dawns on me, it’s her, it’s that beauty, how come she’s here? I assumed she was a snob. I decided to ignore her. I guess she bruised my ego.

“Hi, guys are we going for lunch?” I asked as I entered the room. Cody was the first one to speak.

“I’m going, give me a minute until I finish up.” I turned to Army and just looked at her.

“You know I don’t have lunch. Anyway, today I will be with my cousin. She’s waiting for me.” Of course, I already knew Army and lunch don’t walk on the same path.

I didn’t even spare a look at her cousin, instead, I walked back to our office to put my stuff away before we went for lunch.

We had made it a routine between me, Ally, and Cody to go for lunch together.

After the incident of my meeting Army’s cousin, I saw her more often because I guess she was getting bored at her office. After finishing her work, she went to hang out with Army and Cody.

Ever since this girl snobbed me I have been going crazy over her. I was so curious about her, she struck me in a complicated way. I liked how she didn’t just jump on me the moment I said hi to her. I was happy knowing I would be seeing her around more often.

One day we were sitting outside, the three of us, me, Cody, and Ally, when Army’s cousin came to pick up some cash receipts from Cody. When she walked towards where we were seated, I found myself staring at her. She was f*****g sexy, she was in a white dress that fitted her well-curved body. I couldn’t help but stare at how gorgeous this girl was. I lost my speech. Good thing we were still at the ignoring each other game. I guess she also realized I ignored her that day.

My reactions were too loud for Ally to notice. She was looking at me, then at her as she retreated to the office with Cody. When she was out of our sight, Ally gave me a look of what the hell. I just ignored her ass, she’s always nosing in other people’s business. I didn’t like that she noticed though.

I wasn’t ready to start telling people that I am gay, in a country where it’s illegal. I couldn’t know how it would end for me. I didn’t even know how they would react, so I decided to be low-key. But I was glad it was Ally who noticed and not Army. She is a bit overprotective of her cousin. I will have to tone it down.

When we went back to our office, Ally was on my case before we even had a seat.

“What was that about Jay?”

“What was what?” I asked her, pretending like I didn’t know what she was talking about.

“Why did you look at that girl like that? You were staring Jay."

“I didn’t stare, I just looked at her dress, I liked it.” I lied, yes I liked the dress, but I looked at her because it made her look like an angel.

“You lie,” Ally said, narrowing her eyes at me. I know she doesn’t believe a word I said because, in all honesty, I was devouring that girl with my eyes. An idea came into my head. Maybe I should ask Ally what the name of the girl was, since they are from the same locality she will know.

“Hey Ally, what is her name?” She looked at me like I had grown some horns.

“And here you were lying a while ago about not staring at her.” She said, raising her brows at me.

I hate it when she does that. What was I even thinking asking her about it? I messed up.

“Are you going to tell me or not?” I was getting annoyed.

“Her name is Mira, she’s Army’s first cousin. Her mum is the principal you were talking about with me the other day.” She gave me more information than I asked for. That is Ally for you.

“Okay, great,” I replied.

“Why do I feel like you are hiding something? You guys don’t even talk, and now you want to know her name?”

“How about you minding your f*****g business for once in your life? It doesn't kill. Try it sometime.” I countered back, sometimes Ally can be a pain in your ass.

“Okay, don’t kill me. I am just curious.”

“Of course you are.” I snorted.

I left that conversation because I knew if we continued she would want me to spill, and I didn’t feel like talking about it. To be honest, I didn’t want to think about that Mira girl anymore. My interest was growing at a rate I didn’t like.

The rest of the day went swiftly and, because of being busy, I was so tired I just went straight home. I didn’t go to my soccer practice. I got home refreshed, all I wanted was to get in bed and rest. After getting to bed, it didn’t take me long. At around 11:00 p.m., my phone buzzed. It was a message from Ally.

Tomorrow is early. We have supervisors around.

Okay, goodnight. I replied. Tomorrow will be a busy day and I have to wake up early.

The following day, I got to work earlier than usual. Starting my day off busy. We were up and down with a few meetings here and there. By the time we got off work I was beat. I didn't stay and chat with my friends. I got home freshened up and just lay in my bed.

My place is a small apartment with two rooms, a sitting room and an open kitchen.

When I was lying down when it hit me that the day ended without me seeing Mira, I hadn’t seen her lately. I missed her. Even if we didn’t talk, I liked seeing her.

Always checking her out. I realized she rarely talks to people she doesn’t know. She looked really stunning in dresses and she loved fitting attires. She was making it really hard not to look at her. I could steal glances occasionally when no one was looking.

Seeing her every day made my day. I was wondering why she was such a snob. She was so perfect, her curvy body, her ethereal beauty, she was a perfect combination of my dream woman.

This morning, I woke up late and rushed to work without breakfast. At around 10, I felt so hungry, I asked Ally if we could go to the cafeteria to grab something. I was dying. Cody saw us and decided to join in.

We had opted to sit outside for some fresh air while we had our tea. I was looking at some students who had come for treatment from a neighboring school when I caught sight of her, Mira. She walked past us and I couldn’t help but follow her with my eyes as she went along.

The way she moved those perfect curves, her perfect ass, and her perfect figure were driving me crazy. She’s damn sexy. I loved how she walked. I was drooling, forgetting I was with the others, until Ally nudged my hand with an elbow.

“See anything you like?” she asked me, taking me off guard. Really, Jay, get a hold of yourself.

“Anything like what busybody?” I asked her, annoyed.

She scoffed, and I just rolled my eyes at her. I wasn’t going to engage in this conversation at all. I excused myself and left.
