Dapo took a deep breath, his eyes closed as if gathering strength. “I was sent to kill Sarah,” he began, his voice barely above a whisper. “But I knew about the relationship between Oluwadamilare and Sarah. I was supposed to make it look like a robbery gone wrong, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it.” He opened his eyes, a pleading look in their depths. "I tried to convince Oluwadamilare to back off and let Sarah go with me. But as we were struggling, a guy appeared out of nowhere wearing a face cap and nose mask. He grabbed Sarah and slaughtered her, leaving the knife behind.” Dapo’s voice cracked, and he covered his face with his hands. “I didn’t kill her, I swear. I just wanted her to run away. But I think the guy with the face cap and nose mask was sent by my boss, the one who sent me to kill her in the first place.” I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized the implications. “So, this is why the police used the knife as evidence against Oluwadamilare?” I asked, my voice firm. Tola’s expression was grim. “Yes, they found a knife with fingerprints on it. And guess whose fingerprints they matched?” I turned back to Dapo, my eyes locked on his. “Oluwadamilare’s.” Dapo’s eyes widened in shock, his face pale. “What? No, that’s not possible!” “Yes, it’s possible,” I said, my eyes still locked on Dapo’s. “Maybe he must have touched the knife, and he was beside Sarah’s corpse.” Dapo’s eyes dropped, his voice barely above a whisper. “I…I don’t know what to say. My boss…his name is complicated. Let’s just say he’s a powerful man, and he’ll stop at nothing to get what he wants.” He paused, taking a deep breath before continuing. “Sarah’s uncle, that’s who he is. And he wanted her dead because she overheard something she shouldn’t have. She was eavesdropping on a conversation between my boss and his wife, and they were arguing about how they killed her parents.” My eyes widened in shock, and I felt a chill run down my spine. “What? That’s…that’s horrific.” Dapo nodded, his eyes filled with tears. “I know. And I was caught in the middle of it all. My boss ordered me to kill Sarah, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. And then…and then that guy with the face cap and nose mask showed up, and…and…” He broke down, sobbing uncontrollably. I felt a pang of sympathy for him, despite everything he had done. He was just a pawn in a much larger game, and he had gotten in over his head. My sister, Tola, stepped forward, her eyes filled with compassion. “Dapo, we understand that you were in a difficult situation. But we need to know more about your boss and his motives. Can you tell us more about what Sarah overheard?” Dapo nodded, still sniffling. “Yes, she overheard them arguing about how they killed her parents. They were fighting over something, and Sarah heard them mention something about a will and a inheritance. She didn’t know what it meant, but she knew it was bad.” Tunde, who had been quiet until now, spoke up. “A will and inheritance? That one done reach to kill na.” I nodded, my mind racing with the implications. “Yes, it does. And if Sarah’s uncle is behind this, we need to be careful. He’ll stop at nothing to keep his secrets safe.” Tola turned to me, her eyes serious. “We need to go to the police with this information. We can’t handle this on our own.” I nodded, knowing she was right. “Yes, let’s go to the police station and tell them everything. We’ll get to the bottom of this, together.” Dapo looked up at us, a glimmer of hope in his eyes. “Thank you,” he whispered. “Thank you for believing me.”
