“Ashleigh?” I knocked on the closed door, wondering what to expect when I entered.
“Come in.”
Drawn in by her silky voice, I pushed the door open. The hinges shrieked as they revealed a dimly lit room that smelled like vanilla and strawberries.
“Ash?” The lock clicked behind me as I studied the scene. The duvet was spread along the wooden floor, scattered with petals of the only flower that blossomed in the winter. Two metal plates held more crusty bread and a charred hunk of meat that made me salivate on the spot.
