A few days later......
I walked into the large hotel with Michael by my side. Today was the day I was going to reveal that I was back. My father's company was holding an event, but I wasn't going to reveal my identity as the only daughter of the James family, which would be revealed much later.
I want to have fun messing with John and his family before revealing the big secret. I'm sure it will shock John that I was someone better than Gina. The thought of it made me smile.
"Invitations, please?" The guard at the entrance asked as Michael took out our VIP invitations and handed them over to the guard. A shocked look washed over his face as he stared at the card before moving back to us, "I apologize for the delay. Please go in."
The guard made way for us to pass as we walked into the reception of the hotel. As we were about to head to the entrance where the event was being held, a family voice called my name.
"Are you okay? Do you want to face him now? I can tell the guards to keep him away from you," Michael said, as I shook my head.
"No, I'm ready to face him," I said, giving him a reassuring smile before I turned back to face the person calling me. My gaze fell on John, who wore a shocked look on his face as his gaze met mine.
"It can't be! I thought you were dead," John said as a smile formed on my face.
"Sorry, do I know you? Because it seems like you know me," I said as a confused look formed on John's face.
"Are you not Anne?" John asked, and I nodded.
"Yes, my name is Anne, but I don't think we've met before. Who might you be?" I asked as I saw John growing more confused.
"Don't you remember me? It's John, your ex-husband," John said as I had to hold back the anger in my tone.
"You must be mistaken, I have never been married, but I would love to meet her one day, that's if we get to meet again," I said as a scowl formed on his face.
"Stop lying to me, I know you're Anne, and who is this man?" John said, his anger evident in his tone as he glared at Michael, who paid him no mind.
"I'm sorry, but you have mistaken me for someone else, and this is my date, Michael," I said, causing John's frown to deepen.
"You're cheating on me now. You haven't even been divorced yet," John said as I glared at him. I was done being polite. How dare he accuse me of cheating? When he was the one who broke our marriage by getting his first love pregnant.
"For the umpteenth time today, I don't know you. Can you stop harassing us? Or I will call security on you," I said as another familiar voice spoke behind us I turned to see the murderer and mistress, Gina.
"What's going on, John? I've been waiting for you to come in," Gina said as she wrapped her hands around him before she turned to face me. Shock and fear washed over her face.
"Anne? Is that you?" She asked, her voice laced with fear as she stared at me. Good, she should be scared because, by the time I am done with them, they will regret ever betraying me.
"Like I told your husband, I don't know any of you," I said as a frown formed on her face.
"Did you lose your memory or something? It's John and Gina. Don't you remember us?" Gina asked as Michael stepped forward, blocking me from their view.
"Excuse me, that's enough. My date has been too accommodating with your harassment. Please leave her alone," Michael said as John glared at him.
"I'm not mistaken. That woman is my wife." John sneered as a low growl left his lips.
"I assure you, this woman isn't your wife. She had better taste than the likes of you," Michael said, as John frowned.
A crowd had already started to form around us, and then the guards came to intervene in the situation, "Excuse me, what is going on here?" The guard who checked our invitation asked as he turned to us.
"These two have been harassing me and my date. They claim that they know me, and I've never seen any of them in my life," I said as the guard nodded in response and turned to John and Gina.
"Who might you be, and why are you harassing our VIP guest?" The guard asked as Gina stared at him in shock.
"Did you just say VIP guest?" Gina asked, her disbelief clear in her voice.
"Yes, Mr Michael and Miss Anne are VIP guests, so it's either you leave or leave them alone," the guard said and looked pissed off.
"Do you know who I am? I'm John Adams! How dare you treat me this way?" John said, his voice slightly raised as he glared at the guard.
"I'm sorry, I need your invitation to confirm who you are," the guard said as John's scowl deepened.
"You should be checking theirs. That girl can't be a VIP guest. She is an impostor," Gina said as she glared at the guard, "she isn't anyone important. She is just a country bumpkin."
"We've confirmed her invitation, she is a guest. Now show me yours unless you will be kicked out" the guard said, as John took his invitation from his suit pocket and handed it to the guard.
"Thank you, Mr Adam, but please refrain from harassing our VIP guests," the guard said.
"I'm telling you she isn't a VIP guest," John yelled as a voice spoke up from behind him.
"Why the f**k are you causing a nuisance in my hotel?" We all turned to see my elder brother Sam and younger brother Michael walking into the building.
"We apologize, Sir. We've told them to stop, but they don't want to listen to reason," the guard said as Same turned to John and Gina.
"Who the hell are you? And why are you causing a ruckus in my hotel?" Sam asked as John turned to him, his previous angry expression disappearing as a polite smile formed on his face.
"I'm sorry, sir, I'm just trying to stop this liar from ruining such a wonderful event. She isn't meant to be here," John said as he glared at me. It was fun seeing him so frustrated.
"Is that so? And who are you? I don't remember inviting the likes of you to a party like this," Sam said as a frown formed on John's face.
"Sir, my name is John Adams. I signed a deal with your company a few months ago," John said, as a smile formed on Sam's face.
"Oh I remember you, you're the CEO of Adams and Co," Sam recalled as I tried to keep a straight face, he was so good at acting his part.
"Yes, Sir, you finally remember. I'm telling you this s**t doesn't belong here, she is an impostor and a gold digger," John said as he continued to hurl insults at me,
I noticed that Sam's patience was wearing thin as he listened for a moment, his expression unreadable, until finally, he stepped forward with an expression devoid of emotions.
"You've caused enough disturbance," Sam said firmly, his voice cutting through John's ranting. "And you've mistaken this situation."
John scoffed, undeterred. "She's lying to all of you! She's an imposter. She's just playing games with you." He continued to insist that I wasn't meant to be here.
Sam glanced at me briefly, a small, knowing smile playing on his lips. “John, you're the one who's mistaken."
John's face twisted with disbelief. "What do you mean?"
Sam took a deliberate step closer to me, his demeanor changing from stern to affectionate as he gently placed a kiss on my forehead. The room fell silent as everyone watched, stunned by the unexpected gesture.
"I know exactly who she is," Sam declared, his voice steady and sure. "And I can assure you, she's not playing any games, she is right where she is meant to be."
The realization dawned on John and Gina simultaneously. Gina gasped, her hand covering her mouth in shock. John's face drained of color as he stared at Sam and then at me, the pieces finally clicking into place.
"But... how?" John stammered, unable to comprehend what was happening.
