I woke up in the hospital groggy and in pain. I tried to sit up, but I couldn't because of the pain. When my eyes opened fully I saw that my father, two brothers, and Michael, my father's secretary, were seated beside me.
"My daughter, you're awake," my father said as his concerned gaze focused on me, "how are you feeling?"
"Everything hurts. What happened?" I asked as Sam and Jack helped me sit up
"Sam came to see you and found you on the floor bleeding; thank God we got you here in time," my father said, then I remembered my baby
"What about the baby? Is it okay?" I asked as wary looks formed on their faces, “What happened, Father?"
You lost the baby. I'm so sorry, my dear daughter," he said, pulling me into a hug.
I broke down, sobbing into his chest as he held me tight, his tears mingling with mine. Just then, the door creaked open, and a man dressed in a lab coat walked in.
"Welcome, doctor," Sam greeted as he made way for the doctor to walk towards me
"Hello, Miss Anne, how are you feeling?" The doctor asked, his concern evident in his tone as he stared down at me.
"I'm feeling some pain in my abdomen," I pointed out as a sad smile formed on his face
"That's because you lost the baby, I'm so sorry for your loss. But you need to rest and take care of yourself. Physically and emotionally." The doctor said, and before I could respond, a voice interrupted from the doorway.
"Who's the father of the baby?" John barged in, his eyes wild with anger.
"You... you are, John," I whispered, my voice trembling as I stared at him, different emotions flowed through me, but the most prominent one was anger. He was the reason why our baby died.
His face twisted with rage. "You're lying! You were always a liar, Anne!" he shouted, stepping closer. "How many men have you been with?"
"What are you talking about? You're the only man I've been with. How can you say such a thing to me?" I said as I stared at him in shock. He was the one that cheated, and now he was accusing me of such a terrible thing.
"That bastard isn't mine, i know that because I've never touched you before," he said as he glared at me
"How can you remember? When you forced yourself on me while drunk, " I said as a bitter laugh left my lips. My revelation only made him angrier
"Stop lying you w***e! I know that baby wasn't mine, thank God it's dead, " John said as I stared at him in shock. How dare he say such a thing about my innocent child? I thought to myself as I glared at him, but before I could say anything, my father beat me to it.
My father stepped between us, his face red with fury. "That's enough, John!" he barked. "Get out now, and never come back!" No one expected what happened next as he slapped John across the face, the sound echoing through the room.
John staggered back, shock replacing his anger. He glared at me one last time before storming out, leaving me to collapse into my father's arms, my sobs filling the silent room.
"You're never going back to that man," my father said as he placed a kiss on my temple I cried, not wanting to let go of him.
After a few minutes, I calmed down as my family stared at me with concerned looks, "if you want me to ruin his company, just tell me, anything you want I will do it for you" Sam said as he took my hands in his and placed a kiss on it causing a sad smile to form on my face.
"Thank you, brother, but I just want to sleep," I said as I felt drowsy
"Okay, we will be with the doctor. If you need anything, just press that bell, and one of the nurses will come and help you, " my father said as I nodded, grateful that I had them by my side.
When I was young, I got separated from them due to a house fire and was taken to an orphanage because I couldn't remember what happened. As time went by I gradually started to remember but there was no way I could find them on my own. It was during this time that I met John, and he became my best friend and first love. At the age of fifteen, I was walking back from school when I was almost hit by a car, and it turned out that the driver was Jack, my younger brother, Jack and that was how I got reunited with my family.
But to protect me, they kept my identity a secret, and that was how I was able to marry John because I gave him money from time to time to grow his company and see where that got me now. Divorced and heartbroken.
I watched my family leave the room as tears fell down my eyes. How was I so stupid to think he would love me with his whole heart? When Gina was his first love.
I was too tired to think so it was better to get some sleep, but then I heard the door open up and thought it was my family, but I turned to see Gina standing there with a smug smile on her face.
"Look at you, pathetic," Gina laughed, her eyes gleaming with malice.
"What are you doing here?" I sneered, reaching for the bell to call the nurse. She quickly knocked it to the ground, her grin widening.
"Just wanted to see you one last time," she said, pulling a syringe from her pocket. Panic surged through me as she approached my IV bag.
"Gina, stop. What are you doing?" I pleaded, my voice trembling. She ignored me, injecting the contents into the bag. Fear spread through my veins as I stared up at her. What did she put into my IV bag? I thought to myself as I tried to rip off the IV in my hand, but she stopped me by holding me down.
"John always loved me more, you know," she said, her voice dripping with venom. "You were just a distraction. Now, you're nothing."
I tried to shout, but my voice came out as a weak whisper. My vision blurred as the d**g took hold, my strength fading rapidly as she laughed at me.
"Sweet dreams, Anne," Gina mocked, her laughter echoing in my ears. I struggled to keep my eyes open, but darkness crept in. The last thing I saw was her cruel smile as she slipped out of the room.
I struggled to stay awake as I fell to the ground, trying to reach for the bell, and luckily for me, someone walked in. I looked up to see Michael. He wore a confused look before it changed to concern as he ran to my side.
"What happened? Why are you on the ground?" He asked as he raised me and placed me on the bed.
"Doctor... call the doctor," I managed to say as Michael pressed the bell and the nurses came running in
"Please help her! Something is wrong with her," Michael said, his concern evident in his tone as he stared down at me
"Please wait outside," one of the nurses said as they tried to push him out of the room, but he was moving
"Sir, please leave!" Another nurse said as they both managed to push Michael out of the room, leaving me alone with just the nurses.
After staying awake for so long, I finally passed out, hoping this was not how I was going to die.
