Chapter VI

He jolted when out of the blue, his phone rang. What a perfect way to ruin this moment. "Uhhm, excuse me Agatha. My wife is calling." he stood up and answered the call. I'm starting hate that Imogen girl. She sure knows how to ruin someone's mood. He ended the call and faced me, looking pissed off. Wow, looks like it's not only my mood who's ruined. "Agatha, I wanted to be with you longer but I really need to go. My wife is not in a really good mood today. I'd may not make it alive if I stayed a bit longer." I almost laughed when he said those.  "No, you don't have to be sorry. I'm fine now, thanks to you." I stood up and walked him to the door.  "Bye, Agatha." he waved his hand and turned his back on me. "Wait!" I stopped him. I followed his tracks and tiptoed to kissed his cheek. "Bye, Von." He smiled at me and continued walking away. I closed the door and smiled so wide. I've never been this happy.  I thought of having mild tea and cookies. I want to relax and savor the moment. When I was about to sit on the couch, I heard knocks on the door.  Von's shy face welcomed me. He smiled awkwardly. "Uhh, what's with that look? Is there anything you need?" I asked and opened the door wider. "C-can I ask for your number?" he said while scratching the back of his neck. "You know,  I laughed at him. He's so cute. I wanna pinch his cheeks. "Okay, give me your phone." I held out my hand, still laughing. "It's just for the favor. You said you owe me, right. I text you when I think of any." he said as I handed his phone back to him. "Your wife...she's waiting for you, right?" I raised my eyebrows at him. "Oh, yeah. She's gonna kill me" he gestured to leave. "Bye, Agatha!" he ran towards the elevator, waving his hand. I smiled, I never knew it could be this easy. I looked at my wounded foot. That broken piece of glass was my lucky charm. A blessing in disguise. I settled on the couch with my tea and listened to the recordings. Ever since that night, when Von asked for an autograph, I became so interested in him. His warm yet cute smile has caught me off guard. I can't stop thinking of him. So, I paid someone to install bugs inside their house and a tracker on his car.  It's gonna be easy to penetrate into his walls. He doesn't love Imogen, that's the only certain thing. Their marriage is falling off—which is a good news. Very pleasing to hear. ••• (Von's POV) I drove home faster than I usually do. Imogen must be upset right now. She had 26 missed calls on my phone.  When I opened the door, she was in the living room, impatiently pacing back and forth. Her face lit up when she saw me. "What's the matter, Imo? You don't look so well." I said, hugging her and kissing her forehead. "It's the end of the month." she said casually. "And? What's the problem?" I'm confused why she's acting so weird. "I haven't had my period. Maybe, I'm....I'm pregnant!" she smiled so wide. Her eyes were gleaming with excitement. My mouth gaped open. I thought she had already given up, cause—I already gave up. I already accepted that she can't give me a child. "I bought 3 pregnancy test kits!" she waved them in front of me. I just nodded at her. Not wanting to burst the bubble. She hurriedly occupied the comfort room. I'm tapping my foot impatiently on the floor. I don't want to keep my hopes up. There's a very little chance that she's pregnant. I waited for a few minutes before the door swung open. She came out with the test kits on her hand behind her.  "Let’s close our eyes! For the element of surprise!" she’s seriously annoying. She’s been like this ever since we got married.  "Imo, just reveal the damn results!" I said with my hand held out. She glared at me. "Von, just f*****g close your eyes!" she said through gritted teeth. "Okay, fine." I said in surrender and closed my eyes. "I’ll countdown and we’ll open our eyes!" she said enthusiastically. "3!" "2!"  "1!" We both opened our eyes and stared at the test kits in her hands. All three of them showed a single red line. Negative. She looked at me and tears started forming in her eyes. "No, this can’t be! I should be pregnant!" she threw the kits away and broke down in tears. "Imo, just accept it! We’ve been trying for two years! We’ve consulted so many doctors and they said the same thing!" she looked at me with anger, more like hatred. "Von, you can give up that easily because you’re not in my place! You’re not a woman who dreams of becoming a mother. All you did was rub salt into my wounds! You can’t even comfort me!" she shouted at me.  "Listen, Imo. You don’t need to give birth to be a mother. There’s an easy way, we can adopt a child!" I looked into her eyes with sincerity. I hope she understands me too. I’m tired of seeing her crying in front of me. I’m tired arguing with her. We don’t share the same sentiments. "Can you hear yourself, Von? You’re convincing me to raise a child of another woman? I want my own child, Von! Not some child abandoned by their mothers!" she threw dagger looks at me. I thought it was going to make her feel better but it did the opposite. "The problem is you don’t even listen to anybody! I’m tired of this, Imo!" I walked out of the room and slammed the door. I can still hear her sobs. Slowly fading away as I walk out of the house.
